I don't really get the whining at all - people whine when games end in one big engagement, but when some armies cannot be engaged head on, they .. whine!
The whining is about how much boring mech play is both to play against and to watch (for a lot of people), and given how mech is insanely strong on some maps, these game are becoming more and more frequent.
