Wow No roaches then, terrible noskill ZvZ. Not surprised Life didn't win then.

However it just isn't because you can't seriously say that it is not because of the SH patch. He did not even have to build a SINGLE colossus throughout the entire day. What is worse, it is played on maps that often come from the SH era, the greatest insult being the game 7 on Vaani.

Being the best in the world does not mean he has to win every tournament.
True. There obviously is still some variance even if you are the absolute best, but it's not like this is the only indication. Life did only ok in proleague and his match vs Terminator was close as well (at least score wise, didn't watch it). He obviously is one of the best, but for THE best there is somethign missing. I will be very surprised if he actually wins GSL/SSL, not because he cannot do it, but because there are enough other players who are a legit threat for him.

Last few really big Tournaments (Korean tournaments + Blizzcon): -> Blizzcon: 1st -> GSL: 1st -> SSL: Ro4 -> Kespa Cup: Ro4 Nobody comes even close to that. He kinda failed at IEM, but that's the only rather poor showing he's had in quite some time.

Proleague was rather poor as well. But yeah sure it's actually a good point. His results were extremely good in the last tournaments. I guess my expectations for "the best player" are even higher though :D

I think of each player's skill as a Gaussian distribution, the player with the skill distribution with the highest mean is the best, but that does not guarantee a win against a player whose distribution has smaller mean, especially in shorter series.
The best player at a given moment is simply the one you put highest if you try to order the players. There are two ways to proclaim Life is not the best: either you believe that ordering is not well defined, or you present a player that is better.

"The best" doesn't mean he's unstoppable. He just has the best results right now overall and almost every match he goes into, he's favored to win (I srsly don't know who'd be favored against him). I'd say this makes someone the best player. That might change if he drops out of GSL/SSL, but right now there's little room for discussion on this matter, imo. No one does better than Life -> Life is the best player right now.
