I am really considering selling Parting and getting MMA lol. I keeping thinking no way MMA is gonna make another GSL finals, but that's how I felt about Blizzcon too... edit: I did it...I just sold Parting and bought MMA, I know it's crazy.... gogo MMA!!!
I am a big fan of both MMA and PartinG, so I'm happy with whoever wins. Heart favours MMA, actually, because of what a great story arc it would make if MMA won this season. Head has no idea at all what to think. PartinG should theoretically win by the numbers, but MMA's creativity could go a long way and he's in really good form again. I have a weird feeling that MMA is actually going to take it, though.
I'm going to make a really specific conditional prediction:
MMA 4 > 2 PartinG or else, it'll look like MMA should have won 4-2, but due to a freak blunder, PartinG takes that game and wins 4-3.
re: PartinG - "12 consecutive GSLs" ... "But always been knocked out by ZERGs"
I know INnoVation is a pretty terrifying macro player, but he's still a Terran last I checked.
parting never got knocked out by innovation in the gsl, he lost his opening match in the 2014 third season of the gsl but there he got knocked out by stats later. he pretty much always lost to zergs in the playoffs. soO always got his number

Oh, you're right, I can't believe I forgot. I was just picking up on the implication that PartinG hasn't played any high stakes PvTs before (esp. in Code S), but their English quality control is so poor, I'm sure I'm reading into stuff that's not there.
I've always been a big fan of Parting but from the beginning of this season of GSL till now i've turned into a non-fan of MMA into quite a big one. I just want some really great games, I guess. Long ones, maybe like that Hack vs. Trap PvT in Proleague yesterday.
They noted how Parting's always been knocked out by Zergs. Well, if he beats herO in the finals, he'll have actually faced no Zergs at all to win Code S.

Yeah, I remember how he lost after Maru scouted his proxy Stargate. But I guess Maru is a worse player than the general "you" Artosis is talking about!

It is a pretty good dance. For maximum effect, though, it has to be right by a dancing Oracle.

What he said, it's a valid style but its success or failure depends very much on your opponent's ability to defend. I do somewhat like MMA trying it, feels right to see MMA dropping all over the place

You're right, it was. It wasn't Blizzcon, though. It was the WCS Season 3 Finals, the one in Canada.

1:00 PartinG getting a 10 gate, 13 gas. MMA starting with a gas first. This took a strange turn...
2:00 Barracks for MMA.
3:00 Factory for MMA. The observer's computer is completely wrecked. Game is paused.
4:00 Game is unpaused. Widow mine and starport for MMA. PartinG getting a twilight council.
5:00 Robotics facility for PartinG. Blink for PartinG. MMA expanding. MMA going for a mine drop.
6:00 MMA getting two more barracks. Three more gateways for PartinG. PartinG completely shuts down the drop without losing a single unit. PartinG proxying a pylon.
7:00 MMA 34 vs PartinG 34 Two bunkers for MMA. MMA getting a tank. PartinG moving out. MMA is already lifting his natural CC back to his main. Second tank for MMA. PartinG blinking into the main and killing four workers. PartinG loses his first unit of the game. MMA tries a mine but PartinG kills it, even moving a stalker forward in case it gets down. MMA loses all his marines and GG's! PartinG wins 4-1!
Sometimes people say "this should have been the finals" because of how great a series was. Actually, here it would be more fitting, because such a boring series would be a perfect fir for GSL finals.

IEM, good games, more hype
Oh, yeah, that thing Inno is playing Life I recall.
I think this is not the winner herO wanted. I think Life doesn't care either way, but herO probably doesn't want to get proxy gated 3 times in GSL finals <.<.

You don't have to worry your little heart...herO's gonna stop at the semis.

Even as an avid KT fan I can admit that herO's PvZ is fucking scary.

"Have we seen a single player dominate an entire race this hard since 2013 INnoVation?" is not the question you should be asking when the finals might be a mirror between the two players both dominating the race

Rain hasn't really declined, his style just isn't good at the moment. He was the best back when Protoss was weak, but safe macro toss play isn't that strong anymore, it's the cheesy/all-in protoss play that's stronger right now. (And he can't play against swarm hosts, which are being patched).
Zest never was up there outside of a very short period when Protoss was the overpowered race and Terrans were nonexistant.
And sOs I don't think has 'declined,' he just is his own unique beast that doesn't make sense and isn't understandable.
The best tosses used to be Rain, Parting, and Creator. Creator is the one who has really declined. Rain and Parting have been good for a while and will continue to be; they've shown that they'll continue to be the best even when their race is weak. Zest hasn't shown much when his race isn't patched to be the strongest.
Right now, I would say that herO and Parting are the best two, agreed. In this series, though, I think MMA just played poorly more than Parting played well, but regardless, Parting won the series. He earned it.

I mus say that I really love GSL. Even though the low quality sucks a bit, watching Code S is still a unique and unparalleled experience. It's hard to pinpoint exactly what the reason is, but this just feels like the real thing.
Also, is Parting the greatest player to not have a GSL trophy? I mean, there are some "newer" people (mostly ex-BW players) who kinda stick out and do not have a GSL trophy yet, but Parting has been around since forever, he has always been at least good and occasionally great, but lacks the shiny thing on his shelf. Is there anyone else like that?

Maybe 2014 Zest PvP?
ForGG vT think i misunderstood it lol
ForGG is 56% against Korean Terrans in the last year (maybe there's a smaller timeframe in which he was more dominant? I haven't followed his career.) PartinG is at 83% against Korean Terrans.

Finally I catch you post this so I can show you that you're wrong and that you have to put more effort into your trolling. This is the last balance change done to this game. After June 5th of 2014, Zest had the following placements: top 8 Code S season 2, top 4 Code S season 3, top 4 Hot6 Cup, 2nd at IEM Toronto, 1st at KeSPA Cup. This is a month-long period of solid placements even after all balance updates were done.

TaeJa never had a GSL trophy either and he was pretty clearly the best player at multiple points. Also, Maru.
Parting is playing like someone that understands the game at a very intuitive level. He is not someone that plans builds and executes hoping he picked the right one (although sometimes this is the case), he has also shown great flexibility to adapt in game and have good response to opponents builds. This combined with a hyper aggresive style (which I believe all successful protoss must have in their arsenal) I think is championship worthy material.
Life just happens to play the same way.
Would rather watch a 4-1 of different build order games than watch a 4-3 macro/micro heavy games with essentially the same unit composition and story line (i.e TvZ). Diversity is what I want as a viewer.

I've already gone through and disseminated that argument in a different thread, no need to derail this one (which is about the GSL) and explain to you how you're incorrect. Stay on topic please.

um soO? Symbol would probably be #3
soO would be in the "not yet" category, he is a KeSPA-switch guy, itsn't he? Symbol is a pretty good name to put here, I think he is on of the most often overlooked great players.

Honestly, as much as I like TaeJa, I was never truly convinced by him. He was definitely the best "travelling Korean" for some time, but there was this something missing when he played in GSL. But he is also definitely up there.
And silly me, I somehow thought Maru has a trophy.
Game 5 was just so bad from MMA...pretty sure SCV saw no nexus but maybe it didn't. Pylon sees dropship and MMA says "maybe he didn't see it"...Nexus cannon already activated and 3 stalkers there and he tries to fly over and past them...I think maybe he was mentally broken. Losing the cancelled nexus game had to get into his head.

There's plenty of bullshit, but PartinG's just on a whole 'nother level. It's not ambiguous. I was frustrated after he 2-0'd Maru, but tonight's display was just damn impressive (except for that WM).

This percentage in a mirror MU is to be held in higher regard than a PvT winrate IMO. Mirrors have straight up build order losses and a lot more cheese.

i thought he said dominate an entire race as in he's indisputably the best protoss in the world. maybe i read it wrong
I did too. herO and Life are pretty good against T too though? :D
Sorry for the confusion guys, I could have been clearer.
In the same timeframe, herO is 72% v Korean Terrans, a full 10% below PartinG's. Life's v Korean T is at 65%.
Life vT is good cause it's Life and he's incredibly good in general, but IMHO he's not that good at this match up in particular, he's not as smart as when he's playing againt P for instance.
Hyun as I think a better approach of the match up, even if he doesn't have the crazy mechanics of Life.

Well, without online, your sample size takes such a huge cut (within the relevant time frame for PartinG, at least). But I don't know, is there a compelling reason to disregard them? It's the same player pool.

Offline shows the player's ability to deal with a lot of pressure, but I don't see why online should be completely disregarded.
Life has an 80% win-rate against Koreans Zergs in 2015. INnoVation has an 89% win-rate against Korean Protosses in 2015. Maru has an 80% win-rate against Korean Terrans in 2015. Parting has a 92% win-rate against Korean Terrans in 2015.

Well, without online, your sample size takes such a huge cut (within the relevant time frame for PartinG, at least). But I don't know, is there a compelling reason to disregard them? It's the same player pool.
Well i just think online play overall isn't really on the same prestige lvl as offline. The weekly tournaments are in there and while i think it is nice to have them, usually the player pool isn't really the same at all. This might be different for big online qualifiers though.

As great as a 4-1 can hope to be. Lots of great build choices by both players, MMA had a couple of stellar early holds and one amazing skilled WM play. PartinG's game sense was unimpeachable.
I'll watch the games then.
I'm sad that MMA lost but I'm so proud of him nevertheless. He certainly is the player with the best results in this GSL considering where he just come from.
Come on BigBoy, time to show your best in a GSL final !
Parting finally reaches his first GSL final. After being so consistent in Code S he's finally going all the way. Life or herO are both tougher than MMA imo (though MMA's run this season was surprising and impressive)

Offline shows the player's ability to deal with a lot of pressure, but I don't see why online should be completely disregarded.
I think the problem arises when you're comparing two players and only one of them regularly plays online stuff. They might face roughly the same number of tough opponents, but if one of them is playing online he will most likely have played more games against easier opponents. PartinG has clean sweep wins from this year over KeeN, Center and Spear, all of whom are probably worse than any Korean Terran that herO has played this year.
The stat that stands out for me is that Maru is the only Terran that either of them have lost to this year. It's pretty hard to pick who's better IMO.

Yeah exactly, it's almost like comparing stats of players who play in different regions. A lot of online play will usually boost your winrates quite a bit due to lesser competition. That's the reason i always filter koreans AND offline

why would you think that? The series was pretty one sided but definitely worth watching, especialy for Partings immaculate micro and sick mind game-y build orders.
Does anyone know how to view Korean VODs? They stopped uploading them to their Youtube channel :/. I'm trying to view them on game.gomtv.com with a Korean proxy but I get a '영상 파일을 읽을 수 없습니다' (Can not read image file) error.

Yea I'll probably watch that, but I do prefer Korean casting. It's a shame I can't watch GOMs Korean VODs even if I pay. It seems they stopped uploading to their Korean Youtube channel since the RO8. Luckily I can still watch the Korean cast live on Youtube by using a proxy.

He played Flash in the Shoutcraft invitational. He also lost 100% of his semi-finals against Zergs on a KeSPA-team (Dreamhack Open: Stockholm, Solar won 2-1).

Except if Life beats herO it won't be a herO final, so even if what you said made sense, it wouldn't change anything =)

Of course we do ! :D
But today GSL starts at 22.00 CET, we have Olimoleague replays before
I'm hoping for Life / PartinG cause that's just a classic, great match. herO and PartinG would definitely be fun but I'd prefer to avoid a mirror finals in both major tournaments. Plus I'm a huge Life fan and I'd love for him to stomp a couple S class Protosses.

Agreed. Legend is the only observing bonjwa in sc2 history. Everyone else is a distant second to him.

You wanna do a sigbet on your player being relevant for more than short bursts of time?
You shouldn't, because you would lose in two weeks
LETS go LIFE plz no PVP finals. also pretty cool to see a tvt final in nssl,a pvp or pvz finals in gsl and its up for grabs in wcs. got to say ppl can cry imba about whatever race but the game is pretty damn good atm( even if its ded game).

I cannot deny that Life is if nothing else the most spectacularly unique player in the game, his playstyle differs so greatly from other top zergs of the past I cannot deny that it has allowed him to bounce back in a way unlike any other zerg (whereas with them, they become old and therefore obsolete)
but seriously, dream is a god and cure is winning IEM
Life vs Parting would be awesome. I'm still annoyed at the way Parting lost the Blizzard cup finals against Life. I can't believe it has taken this long for them to get another match on a big stage though.
