I don't think they have a common origin tbh. Proximity comes from 'proximus' which is 'nearest' in Latin, while 'proxy' is a contraction of 'procuracy', which comes from the verb 'procurare' which is to take care of.

Hoping for Rain to beat Soulkey because even when Maru has looked like he was in better form he still finds ways to lose to Soulkey (his worst opponent all time head to head by map differential -9). Feels like he just flops when he goes against Soulkey

Maru did beat Soulkey last time, but Soulkey was going downhill at that point.

Wasn't talking about his games, was talking about the "no one gives him respect". Few people are praised more than Maru... yeah i find that maru gets an absurd amount of praise considering his results. don't get me wrong he's a really impressive player but I think people overplay that sometimes.
I think it is because stuff like micro is easy to see whereas mechanics like macro and decision making are much less so. And he certainly highlights sick micro

Doesn't look like your right : proximity would come from latin proximus http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/proximity#Etymology and proximus from prope : http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/proximus#Etymology

Yes, the original word proxy comes from procurator, but I think in terms of SC2 and RTS the word more closely relates to proximity than to the actual definition of proxy. It seems more like a case of gamers coming up with their own lingo/being lazy and just shortening "proximity gateway" to "proxy gateway" rather than calling it that because you are building your units through a substitute location. But who knows for sure.
