I think the main difference is that in athletic sports (a) you don't see the same people coming back repeatedly over the course of a single day, and (b) most of the top players have taken media training so they are more comfortable in front of the camera (and — pet peeve — know how to use a microphone). I think part of the purpose of the interviews is to get rid of the "Faceless Korean Syndrome" that people used to love complaining about. Without the interviews, players wouldn't get any chance to connect with fans during the broadcast beyond the occasional fist-pump behind the keyboard. The interviews are a lot better than they were even a year ago. There are far more interviewers and presenters who know enough about the players and the game to ask specific questions about the match that just happened or how they might be approaching their next match, instead of just asking every single player verbatim "How do you feel after winning? Who would you want to play next? What do you have to say to the fans?" | ||
