Information about the tournament can be found at the tournament's website. I'll post the most important info here.
http://i.destiny.gg
Tournament Format
I will be drafting 8 players from the top of the North American ladder. In order to qualify from there, the following conditions must be met -
- You must be playing on an account who's name reflects the person playing it (no barcodes!)
- You must be the only person laddering on the account.
- You can't hack, cheat, boost, trade wins or commit any other obviously silly shenanigans.
- The qualification period for the ladder will end on Sunday, August 3rd, 23:59 EST. At that point I will take the top 8, non-barcoded accounts and invite them to the tournament.
The other 8 players will be invited in. I'll announce the invites as I confirm them.
The tournament will function as follows: the 8 people drafted from the ladder and the 8 invitees will be shuffled into 4 groups of 4 with 2 people from each category being in each group. Each of the groups will play 6 matches (plus a possible sudden death match, if needed) to determine who moves on. Once the 8 group stage survivors have been determined, they will feed into an 8 player bracket where bo5's will be played for quarter finals, then bo7's for semi-finals and a bo9 for the grind final to determine the winner. There will be no 3rd-4th place match.
The group matches will take place one group per day, starting on August 5th and ending on August 8th. The quarter final bracket will start on August 9th, with the semi-finals and grand finals being played on Sunday, August 10th.
All games will start at 10 AM EST (okay time for Americans, perfect time for Europeans, okay time for Koreans) and will probably carry on until about 2-3PM EST, though we'll try to move as briskly as possible. __________________________________

good way to boost the NA ladder I guess! was fun to watch when shoutcraft did it
|
The indiegogo page is probably the best thing I've ever seen. Even better than waxangel's indiegogo.
|
Really like the tournament format especially the best of 7 and best of 9's for the semi's and final. Looks to be a really nice tournament.
|
Have you received word on any of your invites or is it still a little early for any commitments from any of the players?
|
|
I am very interested to see how successful these types of tournaments can be for "small time" producers (not MLG, Dreamhack, etc.) can be. I am very interested to see if there is any profit in it, or whether it ends up being basically advertising for your brand.
I think the venture capital via crowdfunding is a solid way to get off the ground, also. In your post-mortem, I hope you are willing/able to share how much ad revenue you are able to collect/subs gained for the event. I love statistics like that.

Definitely tuning in. Thanks for putting this on.

Destiny I eh? I guess you plan for more if all turns out alright.
|
Should be great. I'm curious to see how many Korean or European players decide to ladder on NA to try and get one of the top 8 slots.
|
4000$ you can bring some pros to competitive like dragon invitation event
|
|
Hey what's up I'm trying to be a decent caster for now and would love to cast for you guys if you can't find anyone ^^ anyone from TL that would like to get ahold of me pm me and I will show you guys how I cast. etc I'm not good enough to be in the tournament yet but maybe next time :D

So technically speaking anyone from EU/TW/Sea/KR could qualify for the NA Ladder spots?

Question: I assume that the NA ladder drafts are not limited just to NA residents. If so, what will you do about players who are rumored to have traded wins, ie Check, Daisy, JYP, Iasonu, and XY?
|
You cant get to top GM just trading wins anyway
|
|
|
great job Destiny, I will tune in. I hope you make your invites after the ladder finishes, to balance out the races. Important for a tournament to have success.

But if you're already close to top 8 you can win trade with someone who has a higher MMR and get into top 8, no?
|
Cool, I'll be looking forward to this. I like this ladder battle format for qualification. Interested to see who the players will be.
|
This sounds great! Should be another positive for the NA scene. Will definitely be tuning in

Hey, cool. Glad to see some stimulation of the NA scene!

Seriously? It this some kind of a joke? This is the same guy who has absolutely no respect for this game or anyone that plays it. Either it be another Zerg, or even worse a Protoss or Terran, all he does is full-out insult anybody that beats him during a ladder match. He feels playing any race besides Zerg takes absolutely no skill and that you suffer from "autism" if you choose to play a race or a style which he does not appreciate.
This is the same guy who not too long ago retired from the game and would give endless speeches about how horrible the state of the game is, but now he's holding the community a tournament pretending to be some kind of a savior of the game. This dude is the biggest hypocrite I have ever seen. Talks shit about how Avilo's playstyle is annoying and horrible yet constantly plays swarm host vs every matchup. Talks shit about Starcraft 2: HoTS when it first released, then holds the community a $4000 tourny lol.

I love it. Can't wait to watch :D
More Pro's/Personalities need to do things like this!
|
Regardless of if you like the guy or not or his reasoning, this is a good thing for the scene. We can always use more tournaments!
|
Sounds like a really great initiative... cool stuff destiny!

oh my god that is amazing, and the europe time is excellent aswell. i will defintely watch this.

Streamed NA ladder games ! Weeuuuuuu
Destiny casting all games ? Other Casters (takeTV/Mori09/Khaldor allowed?)
|
Gj Destiny! Will group matches be best of 3 or 5?
|
So let me get this straight. The top 8 NA Grand master players with non-barcode IDs will be drafted in the tournament, right?
Along with 8 invites.
|
Oh wow, you're doing exactly what I wished "someone" would do. Thank you for being our someone, Destiny!

Yeah I like format too. I wish the ladder would have more importance and at the same time that there would be a way to get rid of the bar-code names. If more tournaments follow suit with regards to whom to invite, just maybe we would start to see a change...

Sick tourney brah, this might actually make me watch a little SC2 again

I like the crowd funding option but I wish there was a sponsor behind it too to help in the costs. This looks like a good advertising opportunity for any company out there in the gaming industry so I wonder why there is none, especially since I'd assume Destiny has the connections necessary to find a sponsor with relative ease.

Seems pretty neat I guess.

I'm glad we still have Destiny playing and doing stuff for sc2. He's definitely one of the most colourful guy's out there in the sc2 scene. I live in Europe, so 10 AM comes as a blessing. Will definitely check this out. I already donated some money too.
|
I don't yet understand the group format. It is classic round-robin with a 3-way tie-breaker if necessary? How does a sudden death match work in the group stage?
|
I really like that Destiny showed how his budget is getting spent. Not many tournaments (if any?) do that.
I'll tune in

Easy there "made an account to make one comment" while Destiny is by no means the most well mannered player in the world, and I am by no means a fan. If he wants to hold a tournament, and if he wanted to yell at the players during it he can.
Aside: not letting them use bar-codes is the best idea for qualifying for something online.

All this shit about, "He's a terrible human and I won't support it" or whatever is dumb. Even if you don't like the guy you can appreciate that there is another smaller SC2 tournament being held. That's good for everyone. I have been an avid Destiny fan for a long time, so of course I looooove this. But even if you're not, it should still make you happy.
Or maybe the people hating on it are just waiting for the players to be announced, I don't know.

If it gets fully funded the I definitely make money from this, of course. I don't want to take on the risk of putting up a $5k event on my own because I don't want to just lose $5,000, though. Money that I raise from this will go towards the next tournament, though, so hopefully it's worth the initial round of community capital.

So how much money Destiny is usingto this tournament? Or do we "pay"(crowfund) this tournament? That is really strange. Should tournament be then called Crowdfunded tournament or something?

Valve's making a profit off TI4 and is a little bit bigger than Destiny. I think this is fine.

Jeez, a lot of negativity for something people are willingly donating their $$ for. Its not like dest0ne factored in the time and effort it took to set this thing up and is charging us 14 greenbacks an hour for that. If you don't like the idea of paying for a tourny, don't pay for it.

Does it bother you that Destiny is trying something new? I don't even understand why you're complaining. I think it's a cool initiative from him to organize this. He's giving an opportunity for top NA players to prove themselves, spectators to enjoy good matches and he's gathering some money for the players to earn a living on. He could also just sit on his laurels and stream all day, would you rather? I won't even comment that valve thing you just said.
On my end, happy to see something different happen. Will tune in for this.
|
Good luck hope it runs smoothly! :D
|
All the people hating on destiny about him being a poor human being, I am curious how many of you have been watching him since the beginning, quite remember him always acting himself since the start. His opinions shouldn't bother anyone. They are just that opinions. I don't see all the reason for the hate. something you just have to say ok and move on. It is cool he is trying to set up the tournament in this form. At least he is attempting it. You attack the person for the past, over the present. He has never cheated or done nothing wrong, being vocal is what everyone will be at one point. Stick to the 2014 and not 2012.
Anyways good luck with the tournament Destiny.

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/destiny-i#home Good transparency, very clear goals and spending plan. I really appreciate that. Especially the announced "tournament viewership and financial debrief :" Following this tournament I'll provide a detailed write-up of viewership stats and how much money I was able to generate via sponsorships/ad revenue/etc...in a similar fashion to Totalbiscuit's Shoutcraft "post-mortem" reports to give people a better idea about how the procurement and expenditure of said funding works in tournaments like these.
From a fun/trolly streamer I really didn't expect that level of professionalism, so I'm impressed. I'm French and I donated for the Nation Wars, I wish (even if it's at a larger scale) they could have the same transparency as Destiny One.
I will definitely watch your shit and I'll donate a couple of bucks, because dollars are cheap anyway.

There is a massiv difference between being douch, bm opponnent, etc... and calmy explaining why certain kind of people are despisable because of their sexual preferences. One night I witnessed an incredibly mean (and stupid by the way) rant of you against "homos", on your stream. You were not letting off the steam after a rebutal from a gay people you just tried to hook up in a desperate attempt to widen your perception of reality (it's just an example...): you were explaining afterwards why it's perfectly fine (not excusable, fine) to call your opponents "homos" to undermine them.
After spitting out your hatred on that matter, you claimed that you didn't care if some people stopped watching your stream because how a disgusting human beeing you are. Being unfeatured should satisfy you: less leftist faggets and hysteric dykes are watching you now.
Hint: You see the difference: I'm mad so I insult you, but I refrain to explain how "people like you" should be thrown back in the deep dark hole they belong.

I think this is the most negative thread I have read in a while. Destiny hosts a tournament (gratz btw. ): 49% flame him for being a asshole, 49% flame them for being here, one guy argues that he is less of an asshole than destiny and one caster/team owner flames randomly.
So we can conclude Destiny still makes for really toxic threads :D

hmm, i'm always interested in the actual percentage of people who uses adblock while knowing its existence. People on either side of the fence always tend to think they are the majority in this case. I don't think "the rest of us" really means the rest of us.

Using adblock on streams is a dick thing to do regardless of what color that fence is.

One reason people ad block on streams is that pre-rolls are there. While it's not a good justification for doing it, it still discourages people from not having ad block on because pre-rolls are there.

Clear , obvious , obnoxious bullshit spewing from your mouth. You ( just like the rest ) take things out of context , create ideas of your own and portray them to the masses in which spreads like cancer.
The bottom line is , I personally have witnessed things on destiny's stream that I would never in a fucking million years even consider saying , but yet obviously it doesn't matter why? Beacuse when you are a streamer, and you get thousands of viewers you can say / do anything you want. I've been streaming a long time and keep tabs on this kind of thing. One thing is 100% for certain: you get viewers you get away with whatever you want.
Personally, I don't care about being unfeatured from team liquid.net. I'm doing just fine with what I have, in fact since I got unfeatured I've never had better numbers on my stream. Furthermore teamliquid.net made up about 10% of my viewership, why? Because people on TL.net don't give a shit about what I do. Twitch is where you get viewers, certainly not here.
Staying on topic, you hear / see more about the bullshit on destiny's stream than any other fucking stream. I'm not personally attacking destiny here either, don't get that messed up, I like his stream. I'm just trying to figure out why TL did what they did to me, when there's just about as much of that kind of shit going on, on MANY of their featured streams.
TL: You aren't a website that's a benefit to me. But to this day, you still haven't given me a good logical explanation as to why you did what you did. You claim " BM " on stream. Yet I see the same if not more on many streams ( i'm not going to name names ) in your featured section.
Fucking answer me already.

Proven on stream ( vods are available ) that all those funds have been extracted from my bank account to my dentist. If you want, I can personally send you a screenshot of my bank account and the transactions that took place as well as provide all the documentation you would need to show that I did not " scam " anyone.
In fact, I'd much like to work with you on this to clear my name, since you've got a massive fan base
All of the people who watch my stream know that money went to the right place , but when the cancer spreads to places like TL.Net / Reddit your name gets tainted right quick.

Protech while I sympathise, is this really the thread?
Hope this event runs smoothly, good initiative. Sick to death of people moaning about Destiny all the time, so fucking pious. This isn't to say you can't dislike his casting or stream, more people going out of their way to say they won't support anything associated with him/call him a horrible person etc.

I don't think double standards in once instance, if that's what you're suggesting, equates in any way to being "done wrong." That's like doing time for molesting lil boys and then complaining about a priest. If you want to molest boys that bad, then become a catholic priest, I guess. It's no secret that it's even in TL.net's "rules" that certain people (pros/casters/popular people) are given more leeway/bigger leash on this site. That's life. No one cares about 2's. There's no pro scene. No one decent plays 2's (not seriously, at least). Playing a niche genre that no one cares about, while being viewed as a toxic personality... what can a person expect...

Yeah, well, think how bad NA GMs are (I'd know.... you can get there without having any clue how to play the game). Then think about how bad NA master players must be... especially people who have been playing the game forever... It's going to be hard for many to care about "the best 2's player," when, in reality, it's just some average master player on NA that decided to play 2's (seriously), probably because he was tired of just being another guy... Given that he's the highest rated player to take 2's seriously, it tells you that even horrible players don't take twos seriously.
I'm not a Destiny fan boi or anyone's fan boi, outside of minigun... I'm simply saying it's fucking on tl.net's site why some people can get away with things that others can't. Destiny has been a pro gamer. He is now a caster/pro. And, he also happens to the the most famous player in the community, sans maybe day[9] or stephano... Given what tl.net has written on their site to expect... if you get treated differently than destiny, then maybe your credentials don't put you on the same level. It's amazing protech or w/e his name is got featured in the first place.

Compared to the amount of actual pro players (hint: 99% of them are korean and there are not a lot of them) out there, no one decent plays 1s as well. The rest you wrote is... utter bullshit, not even worth responding to that nonsense.
God forbid anyone plays anything outside of what the " norm " is amirite?
Good starcraft content is why my stream got featured in the first place. De-featured due to " BM " which can be found in most all featured streams if you watch enough.

AdBlock should be off by default. If you don't want ads get Twitch Turbo like the rest of us. hmm, i'm always interested in the actual percentage of people who uses adblock while knowing its existence. People on either side of the fence always tend to think they are the majority in this case. I don't think "the rest of us" really means the rest of us. Using adblock on streams is a dick thing to do regardless of what color that fence is. i don't really think people care if it's a dick thing to do or not, or else we'd have a much better society. =/

Agree agree agree!
It would be so awesome if some unknown ladder players can make names for themselves against some top teir players... This kind of format is really what the scene needs more of imo.

Thank fuck our benevolent mod overlords came in to this thread.
Now I just hope everything goes smoothly with no bloody forfeits that really damaged the similar kind of tourney TB ran.

Thanks! I'm very hyped for this! Can't wait to see who qualifies!!!

Glad to see the fundraiser going well, being already 76% of the way there, (and there is over the $5000 threshold too :D) hopefully we can get way over the goal and show SC2 Esports some love :D

Sorry about my post. I picked the dumbest way to say that I'm excited about the tourny. Good luck, hope it runs smoothly.

Using adblock on streams is a dick thing to do regardless of what color that fence is. One reason people ad block on streams is that pre-rolls are there. While it's not a good justification for doing it, it still discourages people from not having ad block on because pre-rolls are there.
I know why people do it. It's the same motivation behind why people pirate shit. But the fact is that Twitch Turbo accomplishes exactly the same thing without ripping off the streamer/caster.

Hope this event runs smoothly, good initiative. Sick to death of people moaning about Destiny all the time, so fucking pious. This isn't to say you can't dislike his casting or stream, more people going out of their way to say they won't support anything associated with him/call him a horrible person etc. Sure this is the thread. After all, you can see the different opinions about this streamer in particular that directly relates to my situation.
I'm sorry for this but so far you don't even deserve to be on front page of twitch. I can name 10 other streamers who could be there and it would be much more for them. You sir were just lucky and since you realized it your stream turned down to quality level "cant say the game name but everyone knows" so please stop being jealous about Destinys succes and his contribute to this community stop with stream, mby even uninstall obs and starcraft and fix your real life problems !

Really nice lineup! Looking forward to dat neat tournament, you have put together there!
|
Jesus, that is a really nice Lineup.

Wow, the caster lineup of TB, Incontrol, Minigun, Nathanias, Tod and Rotti is so sick also.
This is shaping up to be a really sick online tournament. The player lineup is top notch, the caster lineup is phenomenal. I wish Destiny would also cast, but of course I am just thankful he decided to organize this tournament in the first place. I usually don't follow online tournaments (With the exception of Shoutcraft and the MLG GameOn stuff, this year) but I will tune in for this.
Also, gogo Inno.

I'm just about to complete my master's thesis. And guess what I'll be watching while getting a little bit drunk! Stacked line-up, good casters - this should be an awesome event.

Whoa. I decided to keep tabs on this tournament, and I've gotta say that this is one of the most meticulously organized StarCraft events I've seen.
Here's to many, many more Destiny tournaments!

with ~3 hrs 30 min left nios.kr says the standings are top 8 + Show Spoiler +1. Apocalypse 2. HuK 3. Gamja 4. JonSnow 5. Minigun 6. Petraeus 7. Motok 8. Guitarcheese Should be interesting to see how much it changes before midnight

Well I dont think it matters too much because he probably would be top 8 anyway, but gamja wintraded over 50 wins inarow with a barcode account.

did he say if they are taking top 9 now with Scarlett withdrawing or are they going to invite a new player?

Gamja is DQ'd for win-trading, even Gamja's manager looked over the replays and agreed with destiny on stream.
|
Is destiny pulling a special agent Dale Cooper right now?
|
Detective Destiny on the job right now.

Detective destiny is pretty interesting to see :D
|
Is destiny looking at the same barcode that traded with gamja? If so its a terran/zerg shared account and the user speaks korean? or w/e language it was I dont know, but it was not english.

eh I had a screenshot, but I deleted it because he was good enough to where I do not think the trading made a difference other than time. It was no less than 25 games as the entire match histroy in my screenshot was +9-5s inarow from the same barcdoe who was in a clan called zzimba, and then 5 games playing me, then 3 more vs the same barcode and I dont know how many more from there.
If it was only a few him and the barcode would not have played 50 unit preloaders to clear their match history haha.

Technically it is the America region so they would have to have every flag in two continents by that logic

So why is Gamja disqualified for wintrading, but not Apocalypse? I know the latter qualified on his own accord, but he still participated in cheating.

Is it proven that the barcode was Apoc?

On Destiny's stream, he watched a few replays and did hotkey comparison. It showed that he was not the same person.

Oh, thought destiny said on reddit it was apoc.

Polt is playing Redbull Battleground this weekend, isn't it a problem if he qualifies for the quarterfinals ?

Looks like you won the best players away from Dragon's tournament.

Good call.
edit: life is in both. I hope there's no conflicts between tournaments this week. I really just want to focus on this one this week
... why does it have to start at 6am for me though? hah.

I wish this was at a less insane time for NA peeps o.o Seems like a tournament for the NA scene should be most viewable for NA people no?
Literally my only complaint about this whole thing. Everything else is awesome and I love it.

I think then it might be the middle of the night for the koreans, which might be bad for the players I guess? I understand your complaint though.

It is 10:30 east coast now. The majority of games will be early afternoon / midday for NA. On a Sunday seems like a fine time especially since it also helps other regions watch as well.
Weekday yes but not bad at all for a Sunday.
