He's an underdog in terms of achievements, when you look at what the other players have accomplished they look like giants compared to him. I agree that he is really of equal skill, but he doesn't have the results for everyone to remember him.

he's the underdog in every way but that doesn't mean it's some kind of astonishing miracle for him to beat fellow top NA players whom he's presumably quite familiar with

I don't think people are hyping him up in that way, but it's more the way that he's played in every best of 3 and yet managed not to die yet.
