If I was Naniwa I would have done pretty much something similar (probably I would have been way smarter that this, but heh). Probably that makes me a bad person, but I guess that my reason would be bashed by anyone here... In any case, like Naniwa pointed out ive given my life and soul to starcraft 3 years and then the second i dont like it at the moment i get so much flak, LOL this communtiy <3 Not really defending him, but sometimes this community feels too self entitled. We would've sent him off with cheers had he played the series legitimately and lost. Or even if he forfeited the tournament and retired quietly, though less so. This was hugely irresponsible though. Except for 3/4 of the posts before the match began who went like "Polt gonna crush this scrub ahahah ahahah", I suppose. he invited that. naniwa was the first person to say that he was in bad form and was going to get crushed, before the LR thread kicked off. citing naniwa haters is silly when a few of them show up pretty much any time he plays. i think you're insane if you don't believe naniwa created a LOT of hate today which wouldn't be there otherwise Oh, I don't like Naniwa. He acted like a moron today. I just don't like what I read here either.

HasuObs tried so hard and he would have had delivered... I don't understand why people think Hasuobs, because he finished third in the open bracket, would have taken Naniwa's spot had he forfeited earlier. Wouldn't the third place finisher from IEM New York taken it? Or have I missed something? I think Revival (after he loses to jjakji) would be the obvious replacement.

You already know that people going on with criticism would have popped out nevertheless, be it because he didn't train for a month or whatever. Not that you are wrong, in any case.

Nothing like winning a series in the Ro16 to start your momentum. Now he starts the Ro8 with no momentum. I did but Polt is such a boss. He was the epitome of calm and cheerful in his post match interview. I think he will be just fine!

All my respect for Naniwa you must be brave to forfeit in such an event. forfeiting was fine IMO. it's very sad that his spot didn't go to another player, but i think it's clear that naniwa was in the booth trying to make it work and it just didn't work. you're right, if he felt it was time to go, forfeiting was the right thing to do It really isn't fine, every other player hasn't had an issue so far. It's too much of a coincidence with his recent announcement. Just looks like he wanted an excuse. well no one can prove what was in his mind so of course i can't counter your argument. to me, i think he realized he was in a bad emotional state after the first game and didn't think he could play any more games without embarrassing himself and IEM. so i think if he didn't want to play it was the right call would it be 500% better if he had realized this before the tournament? would it be nice to see hasuobs instead? yes. but shit happens the only thing i think is abominable is his commentary and whining and trolling So if a soccer team goes down 1-0 and don't feel like playing anymore, they can just walk off the pitch? if that's what they all want then sure? the same exact thing i said applies. it's better if they realize they don't want to play before the game, but if they don't, there's really no point staying out there. i'm not saying don't fine them or ban them or whatever for disrespecting the event, but if naniwa is retiring you can't really ban him from anything...

He may have been trying to make a statement about an important and hot issue brought to the forefront which is arguably okay, but at an SC event like this whose really sole purpose is extreme hype (that the game is needing at this point) due to the prize pool it's just painful and damaging. I could have remembered this wrong but were there not only two main loud cheers for the player intros, something that happens at the start of every game? Well hopefully something good can come of it anyways and tournaments begin to take the soundproofing more seriously. I don't understand why most don't use more powerful soundproofing headsets, it shouldn't be too hard to order a couple pairs should it?
