Either he saw a bane or maybe he scouted enough to see the baneling nest, or to see a bunch of gas mined but no roaches or mutas. So I think it was that he just must have figured it out. | ||

He spotted a group of them on one of the ramps with the observer, and he scouted the baneling nest with his hallucination. So even though he didn't see the big group of them, he saw some burrowed so that tipped him off. Plus the baneling nest and crap ton of lings. | ||
