- We have a lot of players who are in Code A and Code S who retire ( ZerO, Aria) and who change regions ( jjakji. Bomber, First, YoDa).
- As it is know Code A has a new format with 48 played as Group stage
So in total we have 40 players in Code A and 32 in Code S in total 72.
Now in GSL we have 14 12 15 which is in total 41 player. So we need 31 players to have 72 players for the league and the question is here why it is said that 36 players get slots?
Watch participants on code A page, sorry I did not mention that.
LP is not a source I did such pages in the past almost for every event and there is no source about the fact that Ro32 Code A players do not get slots.
On January 07 2014 22:04 xpaperclip wrote: The 36 players qualifying is from the WCS announcement. Specifically this.
Yeah I saw it, but I am very dissapointed that such a big thing that all Ro32 players have to was not mentioned at all. It was bigger then I had thought... All Code A players except Ro24 winners will have to requalify.
Yes, that's right. Look at the announcement flowchart again. The new format is advancing from Code A gets you into the Code S for the current season, not the next.
wait wait wait so 12 Code A winners are now back in Code A and other players have to qualify??? I am a bit lost in the new format but my picture is: 36 players from prelims + 12 players who won last season Code A + 8 Code S players from Ro8 = 56 players in total? So we will have 12 Code A groups with 4 players where 2 players (24 in total) go to join 8 players in Code S and then we have 32 players and 1 slot (jjakji's one) is undecided? So now we have 56 players total in the league instead of 72?
I guess a lot of people do not realize that there are only 19 players in GSL now and a reset was made so almost every player have to qualify again... And this can be the most stacked prelims ever in SC2 history. http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/2013_WCS_Season_3_Korea_GSL/Challenger Just look here ereyone who did not win Ro24 will be in prelims. These are all GSL players.

Exactly :-P 7 are in Code S (second round of Code A basically) 12 are in Code A, 'cause they won their Ro24 match last season 36 will be qualified through the prelims -> We have 48 players in Code A, the winners of each group (yes, Code A has a group stage now) advance to Code S Ro32. So we no longer need 72, but only 56 players for a GSL season.
For my part... I don't like the new format. The prelims are just going to be even harder (WAY harder), because almost everyone has to requalify every season (only 20 are qualified each time). I just hope they have a decent format for the prelims, which prevents the very strong players to face each other early on in the qualifier.
On January 07 2014 23:34 xpaperclip wrote: That's as I understand it. No more up+downs, no more win one match and be safe.
Yep, you need two wins now to be save - and you even get to play Code S if you win twice in Code A.
So basically Code A is now just an extension of the Code S tournament by 2 rounds instead of a separate thing huh. Wow that's pretty brutal in structure.
omg, I didn't even notice they changed the GSL format.
This new format is AWESOME! I like it so much, it really looks like the Starleague format of preliminaries into 'dual tournament' into the 'main event'. All in one season.
So great, now I actually look forward to GSL even more! Man, Proleague going on and GSL starting in a while. Whatever doom and gloom there may be, I am so glad about the amount of best SC2 content we are getting nowadays!
(and also BW with SSL9 starting soon, followed by the GomTV Classic!)
I just cannot stress how much I like this change! The Code S will be THE tournament, as it should be. Not only you have to fight for it in qualifiers, you also need to fight in Code A, that will be FULL of amazing players too. And to top it off, if you are not Top8 in Code S, you will have to fight it out AGAIN!
If I read this correctly, ANYONE can have a shot at winning Code S in one season. If this is true, I dont mind that tons of people have to requalify this time
Thing is though, last year the players that where in Code A had to wait a whole season before they where in Code S thus limiting there chances to get enough points to go to Blizzcon. The new system is brutal but fair, a new player to WCS can win Code S in 1 season but has to qualify and survive all rounds. Besides there are only 3 seasons anyway, and it takes a long time before it's finished.

But in all seriousness, less than 10 minutes before the games start unless this season is different from the others (other than needing more players to qualify)
So to qualify for royal road, you have to win the whole thing while starting from qualifiers? Anyone who manage to do that deserves a lightsaber to show how much more awesome he is than life.
I won't be casting the qualifier this time. My plan for today is to record videos for you, especially FP VODs, and I'll also explain in one of the videos I'm going to upload later why I'm not casting this time. If I'm able to get some replays I'll upload VODs of the matches later

To be honest it'd be great if you guys could help me later to promote them a bit on Reddit and in here. I uploaded FP VODs of for example Bomber and sOs and they did not get any attention at all. I feel watching FPVODs is something only the most hardcore players/fans will do so it will never have a huge number of views, but in return those people who do watch are usually extremely grateful for the videos you upload I for one hope you keep it up!
Khaldor can you confirm what the format is going to be? Straight single elim with group finalists advance or are they doing the top 4 double elim thing again? Or maybe something else entirely?
I've read this "Bo3 (2 wins to advance)" thing which doesn't fit in my mind with the number of groups and players which we expect to qualify.
Just recorded a quick video tour through the venue. Will upload it in a few minutes (waiting for the encoding to finish). Talked a bit to Leenock, Hyvaa and Seed. So many good players here Can't wait to get that FP video of Leenock :D

Also, Barbie is still in the lower bracket. She can qualify if she wins the next 2 bo3s. We must believe!
I feel like Coca is one of the biggest losers of the change of format from a bo5 to a bo7 Proleague. Still hoping we get to see him in place of Terminator or Cure at some point, as he is unlikely to break into the Maru/sOs/Rogue core.
GumiHo 2-1 Trend, qualifies for Code A! TheBest 2-0 Sleep, qualifies for Code A! (sorry, made a mistake here -.-) Sora 2-0 Brain, qualifies for Code A!
I spoke to TheBest and he decided to play again. But he's not 100% back yet because he has no idea what he wants to do right now. He might retire again in the near fututre. It's all uncertain. But he's back for now.

Wait, ryung is playing KR this season? Awesome, hope he makes it
So I think I'm missing something, what all changed that suddenly made KR much more attractive? Was it just the pseudo-residency requirements for other regions or is there increased prize pool / prestige this time around?

Format. It's now possible to win GSL from the qualifier in a single season. For many players it's worth the gamble. And even if you don't win, making it into Code S is still really good.

GSL does have a higher prize pool now on top of the new residency restrictions.

Means he got nice brackets, happens.
CJ players always making qualifiers is pretty insane though, why do they always look so bad in team leagues.
Only notable walkover seems to be Noblesse eMotion 2-0 ShowTime
Interestingly, the only player which seems to have benefited from double elim vs group finalists advance so far is Stats, who lost to GuMiho in the semis but made it anyway. Every other morning group the group finalists were the ones who advanced anyway.
LOL TRUE gets a walkover over JKS and an unknown Zerg, and is now one Bo3 away from Code A already.
Panic 2-0 UngNim Solar 2-0 (Unknown) Classic 2-0 Mamuri Trust 2-0 Untouchable DRG 2-0 (Unknown) -> State will play DRG if he wins against Booster. Dark 2-0 KKaMSI
Oh, probably. There was another 박준성 in TLPD too, I guess that's a mistake.Actually, I'm not sure now, both have valid games played. Never mind again, his ID is 노란곰돌이 which is apparently a nickname for him or something.
I like to think of old Code A like a burning ship. Everyone was told to get off, but Yugioh could never leave his kingdom to die alone and thus retired.
Panic 2-0 Sacsri, plays Stork for Code A. herO 2-0 RagnaroK, plays Solar for Code A. Shine 2-0 Junbo, plays Trust for Code A. Ryung 2-0 Zero, plays Classic for Code A. RorO 2-0 Harrier, plays winner of State v DRG for Code A.

Very recently I thought, maybe 2-3 weeks?
That's not that recently. I suppose he might be invisible because he's joining a new team and moving to another WCS region?

he probably played for the same reason a bunch of other retired players played: GSL format's changed so you don't have to be stuck in code A for a season, which means you can win GSL straight from the qualifiers in a single season. Heck, TheBest retired in October and now he's in Code A. Though someone said this is hyvaa's last tourney before retiring And who knows what happened if he had succeeded? More 6 pools?

Actually this is the easiest Code A qualifier since the KeSPA switch to SC2 due to there being 36 spots instead of the usual 24, and a lot of old and ex esf players switching regions.

very good. If you want to reap the benefits of korean training, you need to stay there a pretty long time, every foreigner who ever had success in BW/SC II says that.
I just realised that it's currently 17 protoss, 14 terrans and 16 zergs (1 ZvZ left), with one TvP left. One of the best racial balances in Code A history.
Wow this is devastating to a Prime fan such as myself. Not a SINGLE Prime player is in Code A or S. There are teamless players in Code A. So disappointed and sad at this. MKP, Maru, Byun or Creator stayed in the S or A level all the time. Maru is on another team now so he doesn't count.
Creator, Kal (Jila) and Remember Prime were close but they faltered near the end. Eins and Terror Prime were knocked out within the RO 16. Splendid was nowhere to be found. Byun got walked over for some reason. So sad right now, its actually heartbreaking.
First MKP retires to play LoL and then Prime loses their champion Maru like they did Polt. Byun doesn't appear in Proleague and Prime is near bottom place in Proleague if not for CJ losing badly to the other teams.
No Prime players in GSL at all.... this is just so unbelievable, I can only watch them in Proleague and 4 of them at most.

Karma finally reached them..
Indeed, the coach has finally paid for his decision to not give up the GSTL title that they didn't deserve.

And that's all folks! In total, 9, 12, 15 qualified this season.
Only Stats, Zest and Ruin overcame losing in group semis to advance to Code A.
With those staying in Code A from last season, it's 15, 16, 17. Very nice balance. Only if TY had beaten yonghwa, then we would have a perfect distribution.

You know that when even Khaldor's passion isn't enough to get the games broadcasted, it's tough work indeed.
But yeah, also enjoying this F5-spamming.
Khaldor is doing FPVODs instead of streaming. But most of us here would actually prefer a stream. Oh well.
I recorded more than 10 FP Videos up to the point where I could not do it anymore because I had physical pain in my back because of the weird postures that I had to use to record them. Nagging at me is probably the most stupid thing that someone could do. If it's about people losing their passion I feel there are A LOT more other people that should be addressed first instead of the one person to actually provide content

Yes, we do appreciate what you are trying to do. Sorry if the words didn't come out right, but I was just trying to say that a stream would have been more popular.

And somehow they will probably outlast Startale. Nothing makes sense anymore.

Imagine when Life gets bought out by CJ or some other KeSPA team, Startale is done.

Appreciate everything you're doing Khaldor. Really great work.

Thx for doing this mate! Whenever there is a qualifier we call for Khaldor and he delivers.

Nice, my favorite players made it trough! DRG, Seed, Squirtle, Gumiho, Leenock, Bbyong and Ryung.
I'm a bit surprised that both KangHo and Ryung played in Code A first, was this a sort of backup plan in case they didn't make it trough the WCS NA qualifiers?
Coca made a great run through Jila and Dream! And good to see DRG qualifying, even if his bracket was easy !
edit: I imagine he hasn't been playing in Proleague in preparation for individual leagues, especially with Jin Air's really powerful lineup besides him. Even in a qualifier situation I bet it's beneficial to go in relatively unstudied.

I think a lot of players came back because they now have a shot of winning Code S in one season, rather than stagnating and playing like 1 Code A match every 3 months
I can't believe State had DRG and RoRo in his group... that being said, taking a game off of DRG (who is definitely playing well recently) is awesome. I have to say that I am glad that DRG and RoRo both made it through... but stacked qualifiers is an understatement.
Stork and Panic made it through in what appears to be the easiest group... heh.
Zest and Cure over Creator is expected but sad, maybe Creator is the one who needs to jump ships asap. Very happy for Sleep advancing, but at the cost of Killer(SWAGGER)...

lol at Barbie getting defwin into Ro.4 to go 0-4
and NOOOOOO LOSIRA WHAT
Not the first time either. I believe State also went 1-2 against DRG at IEM New York this past fall (he also went 1-2 against Flash that tournament).
