We've had some changes!
Both days will now start at 12:00 to accommodate for the Nation Wars tournament and players.
The first few players for stage 2 are also confirmed:
TLO
Happy
StarDust
Welmu
Also to confirm that the new mappool used in WCS and Ladder will also be used for the qualifier.

So how come Stage 1 for NA was double elim but for EU it's single elim?
|
It still is nice that Africa can compete, it might boost the scene there. And also there are a lot of African players leaving in Europe. Anyways good luck to all the players

So they get second chances and we don't? Seems a bit strange not to have a unified format.

Last 4 players are now decided for stage 2.
ForGG
VortiX
HasuObs
Nerchio
To answer questions relating to the stage 1 qualifier, we've just always run it as single elimination and it's never really caused any complaints.
Brackets with the seeded players are now available: here
Streams will be announced tomorrow!

It was a dragged out immortal sentry all in, he just kept warping in sentries and got more immortals and sat outside zerg base dancing back and forth a bit when Zanster baited out force fields. No protoss units dies tho if you just control it good while you pick off a few units here and there with force fields, and after a while the army was big enough to just charge in to kill a 200 supply zerg. I don't understand why more protoss players don't do this. Stardust was very good at abusing this, but he's one of the few who does it.

Nothing disgusting about it. Harstem played a fantastic game. He was taking advantage of fake pressure and punished Z for not teching and kept his cool. It wasn't only about the tech either - there were no counter-attacks to Harstem's base and very little force-field baiting, which are things Zerg absolutely has to do when facing this kind of 2-base all-in using only a roach/ling composition and a somewhat low drone-count.
If Zerg is only going to mass roaches and lings, Z has to drain energy and repel the attack using multiple flank-attack-retreat moves or employ counterattacks. There was not enough of this in this game, even if the Zerg played very well also. You can't allow the Protoss to build msc/immo/sentry/zealot army value beyond 140/200 and expect to have a fair chance in a straight up fight with only 200/200 roaches and lings vs msc/immorta/sentry/zealot. As Protoss approaches 170/200 and 200/200, it's basically impossible to win as Zerg. Harstem's final death blow was at 170/200 medium-tech P vs 200/200 low-tech Z. If you know SC2, you know that Protoss is very likely to win and should win this scenario.
There's more to the game than just '17 min 2base all in'. Harstem's play worked because he called Zerg out on the low-tech army and responded just the way you have to. He was being patient and cool about it, more than a lot of other Protoss players would have been. And the Zerg was not ready for just that.

Best of the worst for sure. Poland beat the French for best audience. Sure they had some good League backup but they brought it.

Not really. Flash was playing from behind that whole game since his proxy factory play failed.
I am sure that if we looked at resources lost, they were probably even or Jjakji ahead. And even if Jjakji was slightly behind he was still ahead in economy. First he had a faster third and then a faster 4th base and was never harrased at all until that deciding fight.
I am not saying that Elfi played bad but by "getting protossed" I mean when terran does everything right for first 20-25 minutes of the game, even gets vikings, ghosts (right counters), slows down protoss economy etc. but still loses that 1 fight and everything snowballs from there, no chance of comeback at all. He also wasn't that behind on upgrades since it was 2-2 vs. 3-3. You can't really beat protoss to 3-3
I feel like protoss can always come back as long as you get maxed and have chance to drop 2-3 good storms.
Well maybe our definitions of getting protossed are bad.

Look at it this way: Dear vs. Maru on Frost - not an example of getting protossed since Dear never took any real damage and Maru was never ahead in tech or economy
Elfi vs. Jjakji on Frost - example of getting protossed since Jjakji was trading well, he denied Elfi's third, he had higher tech units and wasn't stuck on bio for the whole game but then he lost that fight and it was gg

Unfortunately Welmu messaged me earlier that he had some personal issues come up and won't be able to play tomorrow.
I attempted to contact all 4 losing players from the Ro8 to play out their part of the bracket. Unfortunately SortOf was too tired to continue and VERDI did not respond.
Kane played vs elfi for the slot and won 2-0. So he will directly take Welmu's seed and play vs BabyKnight in the first round tomorrow.
