I had to move furniture on Sunday (funnnnnn) so I missed the grand final - just finished the vods. Wow!
I gotta say, after watching JD's run through the tourney I was expecting him to win in a tense series, but he got outplayed. I couldnt believe it. To be honest, it felt like SoS had planned his whole grand strategy very effectively and he successfully took the initiative away from JD in all the games. JD's scouting seemed to go a bit wonky at times, and SoS's focus on masking his builds was reeeally smart. It seems like JD is one of those competitors for whom initiative and 'being on the front foot' is very important. SoS's play forced some uncharacteristic floundering from JD at times, and by game 5 I think JD was well and truly beaten mentally. His last engagement was very ugly... Almost as ugly as this thread! Lots of hate.
JD has been famous for coming back after losses for years. So much that LWW (loss win win) has become somewhat of a meme in his context. So no- he's definitively not a player that is put of by being behind, quite the contrary. There may be many reasons for his loss, but mentality is highly unlikely to be one of them.
I think the fact that sOs "cheesed" Jaedong every game put a big factor (i'll explain the cheese). For me cheese is something that you can't scout normally and that if you don't scout it you die. sOs had genius building placement that make the style that Jaedong loves (high counter attacks and reactionnary play) really down.
sOs knew that (i think) so Jaedong lost because he couldn't scout what sOs was doing. And that is not : "bad luck" but genius from sOs. I was so mad that he won... But after i calmed down, i rewatched the final and yeah... he played well. Jaedong was so unprepared for a lot of attacks. Like in the last game (is it ?) where the overseer past through the base of sOs and he just build gateways where the overseers had just past so he had no way to normally scout it. Genius play.

Red Bull has TOTALBISCUIT guys, can we get a hype thread yet?

You have got to be impressed by how far Jaedong has come in a year though. Remember WCS Season 1? Didn't make it through the Premier league qualifiers (lost 2 times, including a 0-2 against Demuslim)
Challenger league qualifiers? Sure he qualified, but barely beat out players like Nony (2-1 win) in his bracket.
Then in the actual Challenger league bracket? 0-2 loss to Theognis, first round.
And now he is 2nd place in the global finals.

that's the UWC argument, and by that, Hurricane is currently the undisputed best player in the world.

anyone know if blizzard plans on putting the vods onto their youtube channel?

Kinda depressing to watch JD really losing against himself more than the people he's facing in these finals. Seems like he has a mental block when he gets to that last match, after playing like a god throughout most of the tournament. That last game where he didn't even scout the proxy pylon until the end of the match just showed how much his nerves were affecting him.
Starcraft 2 really could have used a JD victory right now. Ah well, I think we'll see both Flash and Jaedong take a championship in 2014! They've both been steadily rising through the ranks and showing some of the best consistency among pro gamers.

Thank you . So, any info on the subject?

Just watched the VODs Holy crap, the caster bias. I almost thought the finals was Jaedong vs the AI

Does anyone have the links to all the vods from BlizzCon? I can only find the russians ones on twitch.

If Jaedong had won would there have been a TL article with the title claiming he wasn't the world's best?
Writeup was actually pretty good and raised fair points, just wasn't a big fan of the title.

I was happy when we at least had observers being unbiassed, otherwise we would have watched jaedong's base the whole game when suddenly a protoss army walks in and be like "oh yea, this is a 2player game.

Indeed it was very sad. I'm a Jaedong fan and cheered for him but I was stilled annoyed by the extreme bias...by everyone.

How many times do I have to tell you guys no. Heck, I even said it a few times in the article thread. Keep in mind who wrote the actual article. Winning one tournament doesn't make it so. Losing time and time again the way Jaedong does doesn't make it so either.
