You're confusing racism with nationalism. If I was Korean, I'd be happy with Korean players. But since I'm a "foreigner," I'll settle for any foreigner. It's not so much about race as it is about representation. I can't identify with Korean players, their dominance, performance, etc. I can, however, identify with the underdog, the "foreigner," since that's the demographic I happen to fall into, in terms of Starcraft.

I'm all for being nationalistic as I cheer for canadians in under represented sports like basketball, football, baseball, etc, but I don't blindly cheer for all canadians. I have standards, so cheer for people like steve nash, etc and would never cheer for a bm/douchebag cdn just because they were cdn.

My problem with the community has always been is they turn bm players like naniwa/idra into heroes and those two represent the stereotype of bm/raging/anti social image that the mainstream have of gamers. When gamers make players like that their heroes, they embrace that stereotype which is why gamers will never earn the respect of the mainstream and I can't blame them for that. Until the community and gamers in general can clear up their immaturity/misogynist image, they will never be taken seriously.

I actually agree with you. For me, it's just a case of "I'll take what I can get." I don't particularly care for Naniwa (I don't dislike him either), but I'll root for him.

As for what you said about gamers' images, you're absolutely correct. Any culture that actively uses the word "rape" lightheartedly is destined to be shunned.
If you can't jam with the best, then you have to slam with the rest.
