I think life vs hyvaa is the litmus test for how hard life has been practicing recently. He's shown flashes of his previous brilliance in the last few games, so if he can convincingly win this I'll be pretty much certain life's on the road to winning tournaments again.

Life is the only one I care about today, though I'd be happy as a LG-IM fan for Yongwha and I do like the king of Code A as a thing.
Yongwha has PvP'd his way here, so he should be k. Yugioh and Sleep are coming off ZvZ success. People like Life, and hyvaa exceeds with such a condition I believe. And Flash is Flash. I can't see Effort taking it.

its not Code S this season, its OSL. Its still Premier League WCS, but not a GSL.
wasn't expecting so many to pick YugiOh over sleep hasn't sleep proven that he has very strong zvz? frankly it makes me nervous to see YugiOh as a favorite he's done his best work as an underdog though maybe I am just letting my own nerves get the best of me.

Why the need to change? 5s & 1s are the reason YouTube changed.

Agreed, I feel it hits too late without enough lings to do much. Can straight 10 pool get some free wins?
Only against hatch first. Straight 10 pool is either even or slightly behind against pool hatch.
Based on that game alone (which is a horrible way to asses a build, but I'm going to do it anyway), how is it any worse than the build YuGiOh just did then?

Yugioh's build is a HARD counter against hatch first. It takes extreme skill (Like Leenock) to hold. 10 pool is a nice counter, but most top level zergs generally come out just behind or slightly behind.

Yea, just a gamble. Sometimes you just have to show your opponent and the world you are willing to do literally anything so they don't randomly cut a corner on you. For example, Protosses cut corners all the time against players like Hyun, Jaedong, and Soulkey. But you don't see one Protoss cut a corner against Hyvaa or Shine ever.
why did yugioh throw so hard...had his 3rd up way faster but kept attacking into spine crawler + queen support. I picked sleep but expected a better fight.

Yonghwa's always been a PvP monster, but I think this should be closer than the prediction indicates.
EDIT: Yonghwa's weakest matchup is PvP by a significant margin in HotS. Trap just seems to be lacking some data.
All his ZvZ games in HotS were solid and he was more than consistent back in WoL except towards the very end.
Fair enough, but if you look at the data, his ZvZ is pretty middling (though this could very well be simply because of a lack of sufficient data to make reasonable conclusion).

Lack of sufficient data and not taking into account the quality of the games. In this case his ZvZ stats are not inflated by playing inferior competition.

Forgot about inflated Aguliac by farming foreigners. Good point.
Missed the openings. Things seemed to have stabilized. Fast archons from Trap?

Are you saying that a 60-40 prediction is not close? If I'm not mistaken, Aligulac labels all matches 55-45 or closer as virtually even.
It gives a verdict at the top of the page when you predict something. In this case it's
Verdict: Slight advantage for YongHwa.
All I'm saying is, things don't get very much closer than 60-40.
I was attempting to express that I'm expecting an extremely close and competitive series.
In the future, instead of saying "closer than the prediction", people must say "Instead of a 60% chance to win I estimate a 56% chance, +/- 3.56% with 95% confidence"

When such statements are made, they must be accompanied by the equations used in calculating them, and include all necessary statistical assumptions that precluded the process

Wait he tried to 6pool Fantasy? Why?
Because he's hyvaa. It was a 3 min game failed 6 pool where he just got blocked on the ramp and lost all his units lol. Then he ended up winning the bo3 anyways
It seems that hyvaa is involved in quite a few of the most stupid games in HotS.
I still can't believe Rain dropped that game to him, ugh.

It's true.
Well Life was a player that I liked watching at his peak, but don't care for otherwise. If he's not at his peak...if I don't see that sweet ling control...
That's why he's lower in my signature =P EDIT: which I might need to re-order. Dream far more fun to watch than Life at the moment...
You've got drg higher then life, which is strange if you order it based on performance
Huh I typed this thing on how I like MC more regardless of performance and it vanished...
UnexplainableLove > Personality > Fun > Skill for me pretty much.

That's a pretty low number seeing how he got wrecked 2-0 by both Soulkey and RorO twice in the Ro16... and those 8 games are 8 of his losses.
He was 100% after winning the first map for a looong time (still is?) so yeah his losses actually do come from not having the momentum. It's just strange because every time he wins a finals he does it through a comeback.

I just don't know anymore. Not getting upgrades almost never pay out :\ He should have maxed out and pulled all drones, he would have had such an army lead that way.

Just because it worked out doesn't mean it was smart. Hyvaa won because he already had the lead to help. By all accounts that move and engagement was dumb.

As long as he does not need to play ZvZ he should be alright his ZvT is still is insanely good, and his ZvP isn't bad either.

Life was 55ish drones vs 44ish drones with his 3rd hatchery done quicker than Hyvaa.
Then Life goes through with a terrible attack and loses way too much.
Then hyvaa attacks with terrible positioning and loses his army.
Then Life derps and attacks, despite him not having much units after that first engagement.
Life pulled 20 drones to kill Hyvaa's attack. So the drone count was 68 - 34 or something. Life's last attack was bad, but there was some logic to it.
That's the worst part. He was behind in drone count for most of the midgame and fell behind in production too. So he needed a meat shield in the first place to even hold the attack.

Legend showed all the bases
You could see he had a shit economy with no way to recover with hyvaa already on a 4th base.
Life had no choice but to attack and hope for the best
But khaldor said life had a chance if he didn't!
Possibly thinking of how full retard Hyvaa went on that engagement.
He had a supply lead after the fight. Just because casters scream that the attack was dumb, doesn't mean you have to listen to them unquestionably. Any fight Hyvaa took would have won the game for him.

It was a dumb attack (half of his army couldn't even attack and he cornered himself for no reason) but it didn't matter at that point.

I'd imagine that he read something (message or something) that made him laugh. I'm sure he isn't so arrogant that he laughs after he loses. ZvZ is a pretty volatile matchup, and the fact that you belittle him is kind of ignorant to the fact that Life is a champion in nearly every tournament circuit, all happening in the last year or so. Take your negativity elsewhere.
I hope EffOrt loses so we can see him get mad when a player he thinks he is better than cheeses him and he doesn't leave a Up & Down game for 10+ minutes after he's dead.

even more when you lose in the fashion he did. Game 1 he gets away with 3 hatch before pool and no pressure until 2-2 for both players. Still got out macroed. Game 2 didn't hold the 2 rax pressure very well. Died to a combat shield timing follow up. EffOrt just didn't look good at all in either game although MKP did look a lot better than he has lately to his credit.

His dont care attitude toward the game is arrogant, it shows that he doesn't practice hard enough. If he really practiced his heart out last week, he won't have that big smile after game one.
It's really sad that you think that person is arrogant when he just enjoys playing the game, regardless of when he wins or when he loses.
I think you need to reconsider your attitude towards the game.

Void ray into nexus. But it's a fake nexus as he gets 4 gates, kills the overlord that scouts it, cancels the nexus and tries to bust Nestea. By the time the army is on Nestea's side of scrap station, Nestea has 1 ling, 1 queen 1 spore.

Its top 16, so I think he'd get heaps of points from a 1st in GSL, though I dont know whos been consistently floating in all the tournies to accumulate more than that.

Yeah but you have to consider that a lot of WCS points from this season are still missing since the regions are still being played out. It would be a crying shame if he wasn't there, especially with how he's been playing

Yeah this is true. I'd say he'll end up in the top 16 even if he flunks next season aswell.
Guess it depends on a lot of the other tournies and other placements of people like Dimaga, TLO, Stephano, Lucifron etc.

I wouldn't worry if I were you. He has more than twice as many points as the player ranked #14...

HerO is probably in he has a lot of points.
Someone should write a script that can somehow 'lock' people into the qualify based on the rest of the years point distribution.
I think Innovation and Soulkey are the only two, definitely Innovation.

Impossible to do unless we get a schedule for all the remaining non-WCS events and their points allocations.
It's actually not that hard to do but kinda tedious to write

I think due to the number of players and tournaments, that type of script would be very complex. Although almost every player is still mathematically a possibility at this point, we have to remember that if one of the top players Innovation/Soulkey/Mvp etc wins KR/EU and also does well in Global S2, they take a lot of points off the table.
If I had to guess, the qualifying cut-off will be around 3500-4000 points.

I don't think there should be point decay within one year of WCS, since the purpose is to have the most consistent players as well as the champions of each season ideally at Blizzcon. They will probably apply decay for previous years once we get to WCS Year 2

Maybe MVP if he can when he wins the WCS EU.
Fixed that for you But in all seriousness, #2-5 are only separated by 500 points, they all have a pretty good shot at making it considering they're all basically double the bottom of the qualifying list, although with how much further along WCS Korea is in their tourny, there's obviously a bit of wiggle room.

You're not going to take into consideration possibilities or likely scenarios, just each person's best/worst possible scenario. Once a person has a worst possible scenario better than everyone but 15 other people's best case scenario, he gets locked into the grand finals.
The problem is updating it, since each person has different best/worst case scenarios. Each round changes things.
'Simple' in a way but really tedious to do. Won't be worth it until the backend of Season 3.

Unless I'm missing something, in order to determine if its mathematically possible for innovation to be knocked out, all you'd have to do is total the total number of available points for the rest of the year and divide by 16? If that number isn't greater then innovations current amount of points then it simply isn't possible for him to be knocked out.
edit: that assumes point distribution is equal :\ silly me :p

Yes, but even if you look at one 'season', anyone in the top division of NA/KR/EU CAN get 4,500 points + Tier 1 events. So we are looking at something like 7,500 points even if that person has 0 to begin the season. And only 1 person can get 4,500 in one season from WCS, the next person can only get 3,500 so that has to be taken into consideration as well. Again, too many possibilities.

yupp like a 100% decay after the global finals that don't give you any points.

Not only that, you have to subtract the currently top 2-17 player points. The easiest way to see this is to set innovation as 0 and everyone else at -XXX
So the 17th player is Polt with 1575. He would be -3775 so he could over take Innovation (assuming Inno lose Ro4 and first round of Worlds lol) with WCS NA and Global wins (4,500 pts). But if we assume Polt does this to get ahead of Inno. The next person in NA could only get 3,000 (2nd NA, 2nd Global).
And this is not even counting season 3 and Tiered events. So yeah, it is still way too fair off to even try to calculate all the mathematically possibilities. Because if we assume different players will do well in regionals and worlds each season, the cut-off will become quite high, likely in the 5000s. But if a few of the same players do well in regionals and worlds, the cut-off becomes lower and lower.

Yes, and from experiences with the Blizzard cup, a lot of it will come down to a player ranked in the 20s vs someone who is already Top 5 and already in. And the player 15th ,16th in the rankings is already out and just praying for the Top 5 player to win.
