A very interesting match up to say the least, and one where the results would not be surprising either way. soO definitely has the better winratio in this matchup however the opponents he's faced are not on the caliber of GuMiho's level except for one match he won against Maru and a loss against Flash. While Gumiho has faced much better opponent's his winrat his a little under 50%. I give the edge to Gumiho based on his history and recent games.
Prediction: GuMiho 2-1 soO
MarineKing vs Bbyong MarineKing in this matchup in HotS he is 1-6 however that does not tell all, 4 of those games were vs jjakji 4 months ago at the mlg winter championships. If we exclude those games he's at 1-1 in tvt, not much to go on. Looking at Bbyongs games he has 3-10 record in tvt, however most of these losses are vs Flash, Innovation and Bomber, basically the top terrans at the moment. With this in the end we really have little to go but I have to favor MKP in this match based on his experiences alone.
Prediction: MarineKing 2-1 Bbyong
Dream vs FanTaSy Dream has looked quite good recently in 2/3 match ups unfortunately tvt is not one of them, the same could be said of Fantasy but he has played well in his games despite his poor winratio where as Dream just does not look as good as he does in his other match ups.
Prediction: Fantasy 2-1 Dream
JangBi vs Leenock This should be a great final match to finish this days games, both players have looked quite good in this matchup as well. It really comes down to how JangBi approaches this match and which builds he uses which will determine the flow of this match.
I want MKP to win but then again, I am annoyed by his stubborn greedy play without scouting. I'll go for Bbyong in that game. Gumiho Bbyong, Dream, Leenock for the win.

This is a huge day for all players in more way than one. Gumiho winning this would stop any possibilities of a continued losing stream he has been suffering, no longer phenomenal in his TvZ and falling from one of the top 5 terrains in the world. Meanwhile soo looks to come out of the shadows of his far more popular teammates and be recognized for the talent that he is in the eyes of his fan. A loss would stop this, for now.
Marine king winning this would be a huge boon, as to officially end his slump in the eyes of his fans he would truly need to get into Code S, and a loss will heart break his fans.
Meanwhile Bbyong has been slowly fading into mediocrity and hopes to end that with a far run in this Code A.
Dream has been an MVP prodige forever now; while Fantasy has been failing in Proleague and failing his Broodwar reputation. Jangbi aims to capitalize on his recent successes and advance into Code S, now faced by a Code S veteran struggling in the Heart of the Swarm era. A win for leenock here is absolutely critical for his career as he is at the tipping point of what his fans will think of him in the future.
More than anything, this is a series of honest stories rather than simply exciting matches, with names everyone knows yet is now being decided right here the start of how these names will be remembered.

I don't even know if they're still doing it (and assuming this season doesn't count with OSL), but MKP and Leenock are also 9/10 still on that Nestea Award. (Leenock has it already if they're counting OSL, MKP does not).

Marineking on a sick 3 game win streak in tvt if you count online matches

I disagree Fantasy plays very harassment focused and so does Dream, and those kinds of games can easily turn to one side or the other, with the most important thing being the builds they chose.
Not that he necessarily has the advantage, although I think he does, but it's no where near certain and Fantasy isn't a God, hasn't been, has struggled regularly against ESF players, and most importantly plays a very very relatively flimsy style which matches up well for Dream in this case.

That would be awful, Marine King would get crushed and Dream Bbyong would be a bad series.
Fantasy>Dream>Marineking in my opinion, I don't watch enough Bbyong though to honestly make a judgement where he would go.
Bbyong is modern day Ensnare/Virus.
Bbyong has really good, maybe even incredible micro, but his game sense is a lump of coal. He's been floating around Code S for a while but he never gets sent out in Proleague.

Wouldn't his team being in the finals mean that he'd be focusing on that and not caring as much about individual league (assuming you're talking about PL)? What kind of logic is that lol. Since his team isn't in the running for PL finals anymore it seems to me that he'd have all the time he wants to focus on individual league

I didn't see the nestea vs haruhi game. The reason 6pool games that win or lose aren't on my list of funny games generally is it's still a strat thats hard to fuck up, not just quick.

did they really just say that MKP "sometimes chokes" in Code A? considering he's been in Code S every season but 1 (and he finished runner up in that Code A--yes, it was back when there was a Code A champion!), I'm going to go ahead and say no to that one

The rise of both life and taeja featured pretty heavily in those leagues :D

Alive won. Squirtle god second. Nestea got third using slow ling all-ins that Leenock would steal to plague Protosses for the rest of WoL. MKP won GSTL under bad circumstances affecting his bracket play the next day getting eliminated early on. Scarlett beat Annyeong and he retired.

I remember when Maru did it too.
I'm pretty sure that was like the grand re-debut of maru after getting owned by fruitdealer one code A and presumably returning to school for a bit. It was after that he started his rise.
So disappointing watching him lose that way. Then again I rather him put on a show and get me on the edge of my seat then to just fail somehow and get dominated.
I get this awful feelings jangbi and leenock will be tryhard cunts and do stupid stuff like play competently, think things through and control properly.

Man MKP still so careless when the pressure is on. Don't worry guys, he has 2 Vikings they're great against Banshees and low numbers of.. oh god he lost one to a mine. It's okay he has his own mine now and he still has two medivacs.. make that one medivac. Time to charge in! Oh the mine died without burrowing. His medivac is his last hope, if he can just keep it alive and trade efficient... well that's game.

Not sure if serious? Cloaked banshees weren't 100/100 in 2010.
harassment that is so cheap has no drawbacks which is why even if well defended the attacker usually doesnt end up behind, same problem that hellbat drops had

I will predict it
1. Innovation (because he is the greatest RTS playa eva) 2. Soulkey (only reason he lost is because he played the best) 3. Flash (He is god) 4. SoO (Won 2 games in proleague0 5. Bomber (did amazing in OSL but no games won in pro league) 6. Hyun (beat Jaedong's 156% Proleague ZvZ) 7. First (Lost two games to Rain who did bad in Proleague but still made ro8) 8. Fantasy (got sent out as ace in proleague so he must be rly good) 9. Coach Park (Only in rank 9 because he wanted others to get credit too) 10. Best (beat best playa eva in pro league)
Guaranteed legit
I'm sorry but mini has won mutliple MULTIPLE playoff games, same with dear and classic they clearly deserve power rank waaay more than bomber, hyun or first they haven't won any proleague matches.
the speedling all in problem on this map can easily be solved by making the hitbox smaller on those rocks, like 30 lings can attack it at once. they do 1 damage each since attacks can't do 0 damage, the 10 armor on the rocks doesn't matter that much. maybe buff the rock hp by a bit too It's only 1000 right now.

Dunno, power rank was easier in BW cause you could just do 1. Flash, 2. Jaedong, and pick 8 players on hot streaks for the rest.
To be fair, I'm only poking light at it. I don't know what I would have done for July's power rank. The majority of quality things were honestly pro league, as much as people took issue with it. I know it's meant to be a longer term thing which is my part issue, but as a second power rank it wasn't really going to be infallible.

Just for the record I'm only poking fun, SC2 as is way harder to write a consistent ranking for due to its spread out nature so it's fair to default on the few reliable data sources like proleague
The justification for flash at 3rd gave me cancer though.

The only potential issue with the "level of play" is what should we say about one player absolutely getting bopped. Would it be high level or low level? Also rainbow sheep > stars
JangBi and Shy have really interesting playing styles . Probably the only protoss i like watching . Rain is pretty good too , but plays a little bit too standart for my liking .

Leenock, MKP and DRG can all get it in the U&Ds
I think the nestea award should just be done away with. Leenock should have been the final true recipient of it this season if not for saying osl doesn't count since it should be just 10 in a row. It's not the same if mkp and drg get it after missing a season of code s.

About the polls: I actually liked Emzeeshady's suggestion, not having to make two freakin reccomendation polls for each game and only needing one extra answer option.
About the Nestea Award: As much as it pains me to not be able to eat up everything Mr. Chae says like delicious honey, I have to agree with Guy Earlier In The Thread that the impressiveness of the award is cheapened when there is one or more seasons of non-GSL in which players can take a "break", so to speak.

There will be situations that are difficult to decipher.
For example, a game gets 30% Level of play, 30% Entertainment, 30% both, and 10% No. That looks like a solid game to me. But what is it really? A high level game that's slightly entertaining? A low level game that's really entertaining? Or somewhere in between, an ok game that's kinda fun? The question and its options are too different to accurately gauge how good the game was. If we gather all the games that have scored the best in each of the three positive categories, this game will be left out in all of them.
Rating the two categories allows us to determine entertainment and game quality separately, because sometimes they are different (for example, MKP vs Bbyong today). Of course ideally there should only be one poll, so I will continue to find a better way.
