Man, I spent like an hour the other day going through LR threads from the first three GSTL's and watching some classic games. Got me sooooo hyped remembering all the madness. GSTL 2 finals were so good, I freaked out when Mvp surprised Ryung with a bunch of battlecruisers the day after they had their speed buffed, such an insane game. And then the Ganzi incident where he left for some reason after pausing the game, the dramaaaaa. And then the ace match! God the ace match, just a brilliant game.

It's funny I would have said this for Nestea, even when he can prepare actually nowadays.
But Mvp is actually ok, last season WCS global finals were a week end thing without much time to plan and he ended up doing pretty well.

majority of wcs eu is a weekend tournament, semis and finals are on the same day.
the point was originally raised that mvp doesn't do as well with prep, and it was countered that he has plenty of weekend tourney wins as they don't involve prep. but WCS EU is only a few series so he can definitely prep for that, which is why i don't consider it a weekend tourney like MLG or IPL

It's some funny ones, but there's WCS EU S1 2013 (Offline playoffs), IEM Cologne, WCG, Blizzcon, MLG Anaheim.
I didn't even realize it was the case, but it seems Mvp has more medals than MC, I figured MC would have more top 4's total because he went to every foreign tournament in 2012.

Actually, that HSC, MLG Winter Arena, and the HotS MLG this spring were the only major weekend tournaments that he didn't get top 4 at, unless I missed some.

Competing in Code A(making it past the first round) is indeed very good, and probably harder than WCS EU. I'm disagreeing about the qualifiers.
I'm not sure if you guys have actually looked closely at the qualifier brackets for the past few seasons, but the brackets are really easy these days because there are fewer players competing for 22~ slots per season. This means that every bracket usually only has two known " good " players. In the WCS AM/EU qualifiers you have to win 6 bo3's in a row and there are only 8 spots to qualify for. JYP recently switched back to KR from AM after failing to qualify for AM Season 1 and he qualified for KR immediately.

Code A is definitely hard but actually qualifying for it is rather easy(this is what he means) for someone like Mvp, you only have to play like 3 series usually, as lots of people no-show or the brackets are empty.

Leenock has made it to the finals on every weekend event he has joined (past year) except for MLG winter. And he won 4 of them
yeah Leenock is a foreign tournament god, I would have included him if the time frame went back further. in 2013 he got 1st at DH and nothing else I think, not sure if that's better than top 4 at wcs season finals, I guess that's subjective.

Odd's are they still would've come 2nd. Once MVP secured 1st place they basically threw the series but up until that point they were steamrolling Azubu.
I'll be cheering so hard for AA, but yeah, BO9 worries me a little, makes then a very easy team to figure out (compared to teams with a roster like IM and MVP). I can see Crank pulling out the win in the ace match.

You have to wonder if they will do another season, with WoT and Dota filling up days and GSTL not taking priority even for playoff games.
It's less than one day really, by the time this match finish's the winning team will have to be back there in say 20 hrs. It gives MVP a massive advantage.
A three month plus tournament having a one day period between semifinals and finals is simply awful. No hype, no special venue, and it's just...flat. Hoping for a great semifinals and then finals, but the biggest thing about e-sport finals are the hype. There will be none for this final.

If you mean SPL maybe, having two team leagues does detract from the hype of finding the best team in korea but I doubt that SPL will get much more attention next week. People seem fine to just watch WCS and the odd weekend tournament. Both team leagues went on for so long imo that it was pretty hard to keep story lines interesting, SPL had a lot of teams out of contention for play offs super early and GSTL had a lot of weeks they just didn't broadcast anything.

If you mean SPL maybe, having two team leagues does detract from the hype of finding the best team in korea but I doubt that SPL will get much more attention next week. Isn't the point of being a sniper that you're not as much on the same level as other players? The special preparation and tailored build is there to take down a stronger opponent that the team would have an issue with winning over.
Remember when Heart was actually a sniper? Since HotS his clever all-in skills have diminished greatly. I for one enjoyed his play, when he was good in WoL.

That's wrong actually. He saw roaches AND hydras when his attack hit which means that an incredibly powerful counterattack can happen, especially since he opened stargate. Without colossus tech he dies to an attack. That's why he immediately threw down a robo bay when he saw hydras. Hell, he was chronoing out a colossus and a voidray because he knew how dangerous it was. Scarlett continued to build hydras after the attack was held off but then never attacked and instead took a very delayed 4th base when Yonghwa's 3rd was already running. Which in turn delayed the hive + drones and gave Yonghwa the timing he won with

First game, Yongwha went for Quick DT+Warpprism harras. Alicia held it easily and got a quicker expand. Alicia decided to go for a 2/2 Immortal charge Archon push, while Yongwha got collosi and tried to turtle up to three bases. Alicia bungled the attack by loosing a warp prism. He then took some damage to further harassment by Yongwha, while he tried to get to Tempest tech, but Yongwha smashed him with collosi, archon gateway army, before alicia got substantial amount

Storm and Charge just finished so heart got stomped.

Scarlett took way too much damage to a phoenix zealot +1 attack. She tried to come back with hydra roach while teching to vipers but Yongwha destroyed her with a Voidray Collosi Gateway army before she could really recover.

You forgot to mention that Crank then proxied a Stargate for an Oracle that he didn't micro at all and lost instantly after 3 Probes killed, and then he proxied a Dark Shrine for DTs that did basically nothing at all.

Game 1: Alicia played a competitive game and was even ahead. Yonghwa harassed a lot with DTs that didn't do much. Yonghwa moved out with a colossus timing while Alica was going into Tempests and won.
Game 2: Heart just got bent over. Yonghwa teched his ass off while Heart couldn't hurt him.
Game 3: Crank tried to go for proxy double gateway + cyber core. Yonghwa barely held and followed up with a lot of blink stalkers for the win.

He tried to defend the colossus push but couldn't get the tempests out quite in time. If he had another minute or two it might have been a different story.
Heart... I have nothing positive to say about his game. He tried to hit a fairly late timing just before storm, but he didn't hit it before storm. Yonghwa stomped him.
Crank proxy gated stalkers and it looked good but Yonghwa defended.
Scarlett took some damage from Phoenixes early on but defended, but then the phoenixes continued to pummel her all game long and now here we are.

the last engagement was pretty bad. most of his army was late. didn't have enough vikings either.

All right, I don't get PvT anymore. I'm really mad inside, but I have one objective question: How could Yonghwa do that allin, arguably fail at it, and still safely take a third plus hitting like a minute later with 7high energy templars, charge and storm?

I think he probably had too many scv's at that point. he lost quite a few after getting poked a few times at his ramp. did not notice an EMP on the zealots in the last fight, i think he spread himself too thin in the concave, and in general controlled the battle semi-poorly more than once.

He was in a pretty excellent position till he got fucked by storms and lost his entire army. Tl;dr build ghosts and outmicro, cause yonghwa was absolutely on his last legs.

He tried to get his 3rd down at about 13:30, a respectable time, but was denied by a marine, and ended up throwing it down at about 15 minutes, which is a tad slow. He pretty much took a third very, very safely by not losing any of his units, and Ryung couldn't drop him because he was afraid of being killed. Furthermore, Ryung had some difficultly saturating his 3rd as he could only drop mules and produce one SCV at a time.

I think he committed a lot to it, but about halfway through the duration of the attack he started transitioning out of his all in and restarted probe production as well as started charge and storm. then he kept poking at the front causing repairs to buildings and picking off units while losing barely anything of his own. he was behind after he got deflected but he just played better than ryung for the rest of the game after that. the final engagement could have been much closer but yonghwa's engagement was about x10 better.

I'd say he was ahead after he picked off Ryungs army with storm.
So disappointed in AxAcer. They couldn´t even put up a proper fight. Granted, Yonghwa is a beast, but losing to one player still feels like lacking preparation.

I think it shows the problem with the GSTL all-kill format. You can't prepare everyone for everyone. I say max 2 snipers/player you are sure that will come out but what do you do once those 2 are out?
You know, I knew I had to wake up early because I have to work in a couple hours, and I was kinda regretting not being able to stay up to see this since I want IM in the finals.
But this result is exactly why I don't like the GSTL format and much prefer the Proleague format, because results like this are so boring. I mean it's nice for the careers and mindset of the all-killer, but this shit happens way too often in the GSTL to be interesting to me. Sigh.

GSTL doesn't really tell you which is the better team or has better preparation. All kill formats are a bit bland to me, I mean can you imagine if every SPL round was all kill? Team Innovation wins again.

Hey they have an All Kill for each race for the season at least
They have all-killed 4/9 of their games (in this season).
4/6 of their wins are All-kills, with a 3-kill in one of the games.
