Life goes through the tourney with a 10-0, just to get knocked out by a 2-1 from Sjow. One could only imagine the rage.

I forgot about that. That has to take top spot for upsets.

Granted, Sjow over Life is up there and is a huge upset, but QXC's run was awesome.

I'm so incredibly impressed by SjoW. This is the first time he plays on such a stage and he outplays Life, gets nervous and almost loses. And then he pulls his shit together, controls his nerves and plays superbly. It's just awesome to see.

Actually it looked more like life lost his nerve. Surprising really.

This is EASILY the biggest upset. Most of the other upsets occurred when the Korean players gap wasn't as wide. The difference between a top korean now is much larger than it use to be. Plus Sjow is just coming back onto the scene and this is like his first major tournament back. Hands down the biggest upset.

I don't think the Korean vs Foreigner gap was as wide during Dimaga's string of upsets as it is now, especially with Koreans as good as Life.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that this IS in fact the greatest foreigner upset of a Korean that I've ever seen.

What? Life dropped 2 maps in this tournament already. One to miniraser and one to PiG.

Edit: nvm you ment bo3.

But that's the format of DH and Life knew that as well

Whoa now, let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Remember TSL3?

CrunCher over Idra
Thorzain over Fruitdealer
Adelscott over MVP
Goody over Nestea
Kas over Nada
Thorzain over MC

That tournament was the best ever in my opinion, and it was full of upsets.

Not LAN.

Thorzain vs MC was played offline.

Nope.

Replays were streamed online obviously but the games were played when MC was in Europe for Copenhagen games iirc, no game in SC2 is "offline" but it's as close as you'll get.

iirc Thorzain wasnt present at that LAN right? so it was still "sit at home in my comfort zone" but w/e.

Oh shit, I thought he was there, too, you might be right.

I'm trying to remember how unknown thorzain was at the time of TSL, he was already a bit hyped due to taking out fruitdealer(and slightly because of nony), but he was going against the best player in the world.

I think the difference here is that LIFE is considered not just one of the best players in the world but also probably the best ZvT player in the world. It's been a while, but I feel that MC (durring TSL3) was not considered super strong in PvT.

Second, Thorzain not only was already on a roll before meeting MC. Sjow hasn't really done anything this tournament that made anyone think that he's anything other than a former "occasional online cup winner".

I think this is by far a greater upset than Tfunk>MC (although that's still one of the top 5 series of all time in my book).

How many Life HoTS ZvTs have we seen?

Wow...
How did Life and Sjow react to their respective loss/win?

Life tried to go to Sjow's booth and shake his hand, but there were too many people hugging him, so he left. Didn't really seem frustrated. Sjow obvisously happy, btu quite calm. The most emotional guy on the stage was definitely Incontrol.

life was actually surprised and happy that he lost ...

It was 3 B teamers and Mvp though, not the real full IM lineup. the only upset was him beating Mvp in a bo1.

it was a non-Idra/Huk NA player, the fact he was able to beat any Koreans at all was a huge upset.

eh? The gap really wasn't nearly as wide back then as it is now...NA players beat Koreans much more frequently.

Really? So qxc == Korean B teamer? Not sure you'd have had many people give him that much credit at the time. Whether he deserved it or not. All kill was incredible and just as this last match very few people really thought it would happen.
