I think one of the biggest story-lines this tournaments is his far exceeding everybody's expectations.
Nobody would have thought he'd take a single map and he destroyed his group with a perfect map-score. not sure if serious. he won a group against 3 nobodys (sorry saltthewound) and then got crushed by Violet and viPro. How is that not far exceeding everybody's expectations? Every tournament he enters nowadays people say: "Well, this is his Waterloo. It's Elba and stomach cancer from now on." But when he then takes maps of diamond and master level players people start to shut up really quickly. he beat some random amateurs, big fucking deal. he's still been a horrible disappointment for a progamer for the last year or so and continues to be so. i'm not sure why EG thought it was worth it sending him all the way to Sweden to not win anything. i'm pretty sure i'm being trolled here.
You're not being trolled, we have exactly the same opinion.
My point is that at this point, even beating random amateurs is rather an upset for a player who has been regarded mostly as a joke for the longest time.

You want to knock Life out of a group, you need a GSL champion or a combination of Innovation and Parting. Only the best RTS player ever and the world champion can beat life. It's ridiculous how favored he is. The only one who could possibly beat him is Squirtle, and even there Life is still heavily favored. Taeja ain't doing it. Gumiho ain't doing it. And sorry TL writers, other zerg's aren't doing it, not even hyun. Jaedong This is true actually, I take it back. Which is more interesting though is whether him or Squirtle has a better chance. With the way Squirtle's been playing at this tournament so far, I'd say both Taeja and Jaedong actually have a way better shot at Life than him. Taeja shut down Gumiho so hard that I don't think Gumiho can recover from that in the next few weeks. Isn't Taeja something like 0-12 in the last 12 games or something versus Life? I just think Life's ZvT is too good for Taeja's TvZ, I think you really have to be an equal to a zerg to beat him in a TvZ, while in PvZ it can be more variable with allins and the such.
Not just that, but Life also kind of has his number. In the season where Life managed to win it (s4 I believe) he beat him 3-0 in the semis when taeja was heavily favored (iirc). He's owned his soul for a while and taeja hasn't been able to get it back.

You are either a sick troll or Jaedong did something horrible to you as a child. Who is Jaedong? Wasn't he like some 2nd class player in BroodWar or something? some Code A level Korean zerg. actually, he's probably Code S ZvZ and foreigner level ZvP
He had a lot of trouble ZvP for a long time in BW too.

Well, all of those games have been in WoL where Taeja was having problems with zerg towards the end which is when they played all these games. Life's TvZ is arguably the best in the world but Taeja is actually capable of playing at a level close to Innovation. He's got sick multitasking and micro, his macro is amazing aside from his standard midgame 1k mineral float and I still think TvZ is slightly terran favored right now. Squirtle has just not been impressing me at all at this DH sadly and the way Life easily beat HerO in RSL who in my opinion is a far better PvZer (granted HerO played like he was drunk), I don't have high hopes for Squirtle should he meet Life.

I think honestly the most excitinged players to watch are Dayshi, Jaedong, and ToD.
TLO is also exciting, but he's been exciting for the past three months so the excitement has been leveling down.
Dayshi is on such a roll, if he does well this tournament and advances past this, we could be seeing the start of the next top foreigner along with Naniwa and Stephano.
Jaedong it's always interesting to see how he develops.
And ToD is a miracle story of sorts, becoming more heavily involved of casting and yet despite what you would think, playing better than he ever has before.
