I'm pretty sure that's the plan. I feel like if anything should be completely open it should be the Challenger League qualifiers since that's the gateway to WCS the rest of the year

From what i've heard yes. If you placed well in the 4 premiere qualifiers you'll get better seeds but thats about it from what i've heard.

'Oh you've been watching for hours or two days aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand it's gone. Tune in this week for replay casts, muahha!' Basically. Here's the thing. If Demuslim beats Revival, then the casting from replays just completely deflates that storyline, and that would be the biggest storyline in Starcraft for a few days-- we'll likely just get a "he won, meh, it was from replays, that happened a few days ago."

'Oh you've been watching for hours or two days aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand it's gone. Tune in this week for replay casts, muahha!' MLG doesn't care about the fans. MLG doesn't care about the scene. MLG only cares about it's bottom line, and if it can milk this qualifier out for a few more days on replays, it's more revenue to them. That's the way MLG operates. Get shady backroom deals to get exclusivity, then leverage that monopoly power to maximize profits. It's a pretty common business practice, but MLG has really underestimated the value of community goodwill. This fiasco has lost MLG a ton of goodwill among the community, and in the long run, goodwill has a lot of economic and monetary value.

The winner will be NASL when everyone tunes in to their next season out of spite (and out of love for Rotterdam and Bitter).

As long as they get a high viewer count, they don't really care about community "goodwill." Despite all the issues with today's qualifiers, I'm guessing you and most people didn't stop watching right? That's all they care about really.

Lots of people stopped watching, they went from 30k to less than 20k.

But the community (as a collective) has a very short memory, and there has been the overriding sentiment of unconditional support to "help eSports grow". But that's unsustainable. In any other market, when a company puts out a bad product, they are "punished" by the market through lower future sales, damaged brand value, etc. But if everyone forgets about this in a few days, MLG will continue to pull this shit because the "market" let them get away with an inferior product.
