Watching the vods now. Before the MKP vs Stephano match starts, I'm a little bit shocked by all the hate towards french from Wolf. This is quite disturbing to be frank.

Anti-Stephano fans should step a way back - let's be happy that at least one foreigner can at least compete in code S

He lost to Innovation twice which is okay because Innovation is the best TvZ player in the world... but nonetheless he showed that he CAN compete because most of their games were close, he crushed another code S player (hack) and he crushed players that made it far in code A.
Which other foreigner would have accomplished that? They all would have gone 0-4 in the code S group and 0-3 in the Up&Downs

Naniwa? Jinro? They've accomplished more or at at the very least the same in the gsl...

Naniwa yeah, Jinro accomplished his run in a field that included IdrA and Jungle Basin.

also didn't naniva have like 80% pvps and the 20% left was keen and ensnare?

he was decent at that time but to make an example, some time ago Babyknight beat Polt and Rain in 1-2 weeks that's more impressive than anything Naniwa did in gsl

haha, no.
bracket luck is a huge part of gsl, mvp and mma got a lot of their championships dodging protosses. naniwa did well by dodging zerg, no difference

no.

logic doesn't work that way. luck plays a role for everyone that is true but the magnitude of that role is entirely different.

luck handed naniwa nothing but pvp and the weakest terrans in code s at that time like ryung who had atrocious tvp and virus who nobody know why was in code s anyways.

MVP in his 2 later gsls- in one had to beat parting, squirtle, ryung, puzzle, all very good vt

the other I remember had the hardest paths to finals including every code s champion.

quite obvious that this doesn't fall under the same category as a code s run where naniwa has to play vs virus and 2 pvps which was basically the only matchup at that time where foreigners were beating koreans regularly.

naniwa was lucky as hell.

naniwa beat creator puzzle and genius in pvp if i remember correctly - that's impressive even for the best koreans. virus had just recently beaten mc and nestea

look, you can argue bracket luck all you like, but results speak for themselves. are you going to discount parting's WCG/BWC run where he beat a total of one korean to win $125,000?

succesful (by numbers) =/= most impressive

it correlates in the long run of course... but parting beating adelscott and combatex doesn't prove anything else that he won an easy tournament and earned a lot of money, yeah. you CAN differentiate wins and wins. this is why remarks like "he's 2 times gsl ro8 dropout" doesn't mean much, when code A can be more stacked for you than code s ro8 if luck is on your side. doesn't matter if Naniwa can win in a pvp vs genius when he gets shat on by Dimaga a week later or Bly 3 weeks later. time proved that Naniwa's success was kind of a lucky flick and not consistent solid play. For MVP for example or Polt or Nestea the opposite is true

Polt going through MMA, Top, Losira etc is nothing like Nestea raping a bad pvz player 4-0 in his best matchup- the difference is huge. Also I think there are about a bunch foreigners who could make runs like Naniwa with luck on their side, like Kas (who at that time beat Parting, he also beat Seed and MKP, etc)

All of that of course to korean standards, he is a very good player compared to foreigners and to me, a god. I'm not trying to hate on him but I like to see these things 100% clearly. The hype on him was sometimes very annoying, maybe his fanbase was too proud?

Stephano have a lot of haters since... oh ! So long ! In TL it's since IPL3 but in france (on aAa or Millénium) it start long long time ago "Stephano don't have euro level", "Adel is the best french player".... You can be a fan or a haters, Stephano don't give a shit, he travel, makes money... Some of TL guys must see the Stephano video-portrait in eosl winter 2010 (french-only tournament), he was just a unknown who managed to go out of his groups. In the interview you see he was a little guy in Toulouse who played with a bad computer in a little flat. Now he have 8000$/month, live in US and Korea and managed to go back in Code S via U&D in GSL.... pretty good SC2 carrer
