The time has come for our forty-second IGN Pro League Fight Club! This is a weekly king of the hill showmatch series. Basically, there will be a 1 vs. 1 best of 9 showmatch each and every week, where the winner will earn a $500 prize and a $100 bounty on their head. For example, if a player wins three weeks in a row they will have earned $1,500 and a $300 bounty. If a NEW challenger defeats him, they will earn $500 for the showmatch, take the $300 bounty home, and have a new $100 bounty placed on their head for each week that they win.
When: Tuesday, Dec 11 12:00am GMT (GMT+00:00) (we will also broadcast the match repeatedly afterwards!)
TSL's HyuN is a ridiculous human being. He has now won Fight Club for fourteen weeks in a row! He defeated reigning MLG and GSL Champion Life 5 - 4 in his last ZvZ matchup! His additional victims include IPL4 winner, aLive, IPL4 runner-up Squirtle, and GSL Semifinalists FXO.GuMiho, ByuN.Prime, Liquid`Sea, and two-time World Champion PartinG. Can Leenock finally take down HyuN and claim $500 and an amazing $1400 bounty!
TSL.HyuN
FXO.Leenock may be an equally ridiculous human being to HyuN. His clutch performances in the GSTL and MLG victory indicated he was back in form, but his dominating tour-de-force at IPL 5 cemented him as one of the best players of 2012. Is he the man to steal the title from HyuN?
Fun fact, if leenock beats hyun he will earn more than slivko/vortix did at IEM (They finished semi finals and got 1.7k while leenock will get 1.9k for winning)
This is super difficult for me, because I am probably HyuN's biggest fanboy, but not that confident he can win this. HyuN has been eliminated from three premier tournaments in the last month due to ZvZ: DRG 1-2 (IPL), Sniper 3-4 (GSL) and SortOf (NASL) 0-3. Now they are LANs and HyuN is the online king, but his ZvZ has been so rocky lately I'm not particularily confident he can win this. Doesn't help that Leenock is considered the best Zerg currently, while HyuN's ZvZ is messy. Maybe HyuN can pull-off the 5-4, but there is no certainty in my mind.

Anyone who manages to beat HyuN in his own club deserves a healthy price
Nooooo starts the same time as my final. Rats. I'll have to catch the rebroadcast I guess. Wait fuck, nooooo I have a final tomorrow morning too. Fuuuuck I wanted to watch this so badly. Go Hyun though!!!

Get in there, all you morons(aka non-Hyuns) who lost!
Hrmmmm I might be reading too much into this, but + Show Spoiler +
That makes it feel like Leenock won, since they wouldn't want players to repeat if it was against the same person.
"Repeats" at this point applies to players who were in Fight club as much as a year ago, not necessarily people Hyun has beaten, and not necessarily people who have played at all recently. Besides, they've been talking about how they're going to start letting people back in for weeks now, since before Hyun went on the super-streak. I think you're reading too much into it.

OH NO! That's today!? Shit, I was gonna get a Haiku ready for this one... We'll see if I get around to it. You won't like it though, I agree with the general consensus. Even the hyunbelievable fairy tale must eventually come to an end...
Edit: Eh... It'll do...
Leenocktopus stirs Hope Hyun likes sushi but Fear winter at last
Edit 2: All credit to StarVe for the following: I just want to say, sorry it's not Haikuality.

So you'll do one but it won't be Haikuality?
Haha! This exactly!
Man, that's actually the best pun I've heard this month.
I'm not sure I could have topped my Hyun vs Parting Haiku anyways.
I've got one edited in now, but as you said, it's not Haikuality.
Woah, missed the beginning of the show, not sure about the new studio, lighting and all looks nice, but the desk is so shiny and mirrors their shapes, it makes them look fat when they really aren't.
Leenock had +1 armor the entire time. HyuNs +1 attack was nullified when he attacked. Don't know why it's so common for casters to miss this (I've seen Leenock do this a lot).
On roaches, +1 attack is actually better than +1 armor, its just leenock got +1 attack about halfway through the fight so his roaches were weaker during the first half then stronger in the 2nd.
On December 11 2012 09:55 ref4 wrote: missed game 1, how did leenock win?
Broke apart HyuN with better engagements and multi-tasking attacks, and killed a lot of Infestors. Attacked with Roach/Infestor when he knew he won, and handed HyuN his first ever loss on Atlantis Spaceship.
I don't know what is bad about his ZvZ? He lost to a really good hold from Leenock with a silly 1 base cheese that Leenock has played against like 100 times on ladder last week.
He lost game 1 to Leenock playing insanely well and it's ZvZ... you win by the smallest of margins or the smallest of play errors that snowball. Not trying to take anything away from Leenock (I'm his #1 fanboy) but Hyun is playing ok.

Heyyy, I am his #1 fan : p
In reality ALL of humanity is Leenock's #1 fan even if they don't know it yet. They WILL recognize the power of the 'Nock. We're just the disciples that realize it soonest.

I still think Leenock and Violet have the best ZvZ overall. Have for months and months now. Sure Life and Sniper have their wins here and there but Leenock and Violet have looked the most solid to me overall in all stages: early, mid, and insane multi-tasking lol 90 roaches eating yo' bases stage.

Yeah he threw too many games to weird styles (muta, pre infestor nerf), zerg/ultra, etc. When he just plays standard he wins. So sad for Leenock, I have my money on him for the GSL final tournament though.

Not his fault that Sniper gets a +10 skill increase whenever he is facing a fan favourite : (
And he won IPL5 instead
+ Hoping for the GSL Tour victory >_<
DRG all the way
" even if Im not good accomplih nowadays , I believe that I best zerg in the world right now! still practicing for u guys want some more awesome games thx supporting c u in GSL G.F" - DRG yesterday
This build is so overpowering in ZvZ. Probably the best all-in (and the only one that should work reliably) since it is pretty hard to scout (impossible on some maps until the speedlings are on their way).

I'm pretty sure it was played during or after IPL5 (presumably after since Leenock got so far in IPL5 itself). I remember Leenock tweeting IPL asking when Fight Club was and they responded "After IPL5". I'd assume he was asking when he had to play, not when IPL was broadcasting it, because he probably couldn't care less about that.

Hyun getting the second game, the beginning of the comeback.
Even if he losses now hes at least putting up a good fight, althou Leenock could have played safer and maybe already he would have already won this set, who knows
believe me i'm right haha the exact map order and results match exactly :p
i think leenock was asking when he would start the NEXT fightclub after hyun lolol
OMG then when hyun came out with the boxing robe and gloves at IPL 5, he knew he was dethroned already and should have given those clothes to leenock to wear as the new champion!
So Leenock just got a bunch of money this week but he's not going to win early as much for the next few weeks, right? I wonder if he's just going to be like wtf
so sad it had to end sometime i suppose. i could see leenock having an even longer reign of terror over fight club though, he's looking pretty untouchable these days. great run though, hyun!

Ahh, you're a better detective than most of us, I can remember tweets but searching match histories is way too tedious, espcially with Koreans.
IPL really seem to have grown fond of ZvZ now that they've finally removed the mirror ban from Fight Club.
ZvZ was necessary to knock out HyuN, because the IPL FC map pool does favor Zerg, and HyuN has top 3 ZvT + ZvP, which means very few could ever have a chance against him in a Bo9.

Nah, don't think so, Leenock isn't as solid as Hyun, or to phrase it better, in foreign tournaments he does even more of his weird "I don't give a fuck" builds he uses to keep himself from getting predictable than in GSL. Since he's won a ton more money than Hyun in SC2, I also think he doesn't care as much about Fight Club as Hyun did. I mean, he obviously plays well, but with Hyun you got the feeling of complete determination over those 16 weeks. I don't think Leenoch can keep that up.
He did a lot of slow ling allins, baneling busts vs toss or hydra nydus rushes in Ritmix RSL 2 and barely managed to win it despite uninspired play in some of his games and that was for $3000. Don't think he'll be too concerned if he stops winning $500 in one of the coming weeks.
And for Hyun, it's back to farming Go4SC2 and ZOTAC Cups, I guess. Nerchio, fraer, Bly and Welmu won't be happy.

hyun going to vegas, back to korea, back to us for nasl and back to korea within a week wasnt so good for his performances, sad to see an era end like this

These matches were played early november, before IPL5. Detective Opterown looked it up, so not rly an excuse to why he lost. He had to lose sometime.

good to hear, all the more hail to leenock then ofc!
Leenock was clearly the better player here (god he is so good at ZvZ lately it's ridiculous), and deserves this win fully, still it saddens me to see Hyun go.
On December 12 2012 03:06 revel8 wrote: How come they did a ZvZ? I thought they wanted to avoid mirror-matchups in Fight Club. Did they just run out of non-Zerg players to come at Hyun?
yes, they run out of non zergs, but this wasnt the first mirror match up Hyun played either. I wonder if they will take the none mirror rule back later
It will be interesting if Hyun is able to recover from those recent defeats. We saw in the near past a few players falling as fast as they've been rising. Hope he does not fall too.
Anticlimactic way to go out, to be sure, but not entirely unexpected. Hyun's ZvZ has been suffering somewhat as of late, and although he beat Life in a ZvZ Fight Club round, a repeat performance against perhaps the only person even better than Life in the matchup was unlikely. Something tells me we haven't seen the last of Hyun, though. His run through fight club was legendary, and I'm sure he's earned a special place in the hearts of IPL's organizers. He'll be back soon enough.
Just to let everyone know, SortOf sadly felt really ill as he caught something on the way to NASL, so he didn't feel upto playing, so Sting will play vs Leenock in his place, should be a good game regardless!
