And I came here late - 2008 or so. Adun only knows how the old guard actually did it. But evidently the coddled pansies we have here would probably be cutting their wrists to Linkin Park's Crawling if they ever had to endure the like. It's human nature to get spoiled, whould you like to live in a shed ? We used to ! It's supost to improve we should not be thankful and in awe every time something get's hosted. Fact is for Blizzards standards this tournament is lacking in quality. Yeah, I agree. I'm not saying criticism is invalid or unwarranted, but seriously, people commenting that this is the 'worst tournament ever'? These people need perspective. Hell, look at the last Blizzcon. Things like 'worst tourney ever' are just spur of the moment exaggerations. Don't read too much into it =P Well it's not the worst tournament ever, but it looks pretty amateurish compared to the LoL and Dota finals. This is blizzard's flagship tournament and it looks the same or even worse as any other ran tournament. Blizzard could throw all the money they want at this tournament, but money does nothing if the people hired can't do the job properly. I think it was a mistake for blizzard to host this in china. Should have hosted this in the states or....canada!  They need to sell Sc2 in China  I see that as the only reason why they would go all the way to China. This entire thing is a giant advertisement for sc2 and WoW in china, trying to tap into that huge population.
I really think selling wow would be the main reason you go to China. I would have loved to just have a sc2 finals :/

I agree with Fionn's perspective here, this tournament simply lacks any personality.
When I think of the tournaments I've enjoyed, I recall MLG doing the photoshop contest, Dreamhack and it's zany music videos between matches, or the GD Studio having fun interviews and its 'analysis' desk.
Hell, say what you want about Riot, but their finals had an idea in mind of how to set up and stage the tournament for viewers. I don't get that sense at all from Blizzard, it's like they spent all this money on casters, flights, players, etc and just assumed it would make for a good viewing experience. Instead, we just have this kinda soulless battle for $100k.
I get the people who are saying 'Don't be so down, its free, it's progress from 2007 etc', but I'm just so disapointed by this event. Just the concept of a truly global finals, in which basically every player in the world had to earn their spot, an amazing casting lineup, and tons of money thrown at it by Blizzard shouldn't feel like...this.

Any word on viewer counts in Asia? They were always going to be shit at this our for the western audience but maybe Asia makes up for it. I'm sure that's what blizz are hoping for with the whole event afterall.

Two reasons:
1, It's not European or NA native event. So it feels distance. But if you are Chinese, this feels great and huge.
2, There are few strongest players of the game even though there are the great players around the world.

No top tier terrans in this tournament at all. Sucks really. Z and P have been stronger vs T for so long.
