I'm actually thinking it's the other way around. He's been around long enough to be a decent player, laddering would only make his knowledge of the game better, but during those events, he's just casting using his daily routine and actually doesn't care too much about analyzing the game. Can't blame him for not being focused 24/7 but making mistake after mistake is a bit irritating, I'd rather have him pause once in a while than saying things that are just plainly wrong (but I guess I or some other people would complain about that too then....well, some kind of compromise would be ok I guess).
