I manner nexus'd in a game the other evening for the first time, I don't know what came over me
Mini: -Beat Flash -Mini has consistent wins in PvP (albeit small sample size)
DRG: -Surprisingly solid vs P in the past few weeks -Beat Bomber convincingly the last time they faced
YoDa: -TvT is very solid, beating Taeja, Sparta, Supernova, and Ryung in recent series. -TvP is his achilles heel, with about a 50/50 winrate vs low Code A/Code B protoss
Genius: -Mediocre in all matchups with poor winrates vs Code A players.
Bomber: -TvP is solid, though he hasn't faced many Code S caliber players recently. -Very inconsistent

I don't see Genius making it out. Bomber has a small window of opportunity if he can get through DRG and Mini (I don't think beating YoDa is possible for him, the stats speak for themselves.). I believe Mini, YoDa, and DRG will end up in a three way tie.
As far as I'm concerned DRG>Mini>YoDa>DRG. It's a tossup depending on which players are able to break the cycle. I'd give the benefit of the doubt to the more experienced players and predict DRG and YoDa to advance.

Still got hope for the awesome Bomber to show up. And we got the first Kespa-player in the up&downs, looks like this is gonna be an interesting day.
For some reason I like to watch the up&downs more then almost all the rest of GSL, so many tense situations, so many weird games, also it's almost always pretty long so I can watch some of the games when I'm back home from university

Then he plays MC who seems to be having a lot of trouble lately as well.
In fairness his Dual Tournament group was quite hard, Byun and Symbol were at the top during that time.

Never forget is right. I remember that match and just having my jaw hit the floor at MMAs multiple drops. I feel like the current TvZ metagame just skips the midgame completely and is all the poorer for it.

drg still uses mutalingbling allll the time.

That runby killed Genius, if he walls back up, and strategically places HTs with the cannons, he could have deflected the majority of the attacks and just won with a counter, instead he was put into the worst possible situation.

I am thankful its not BL and Infestor, at least mass mutas require tons of micro and baby-sitting to make the most of them, and it requires just as much from your opponent to win. A much better spectator experience then the standard ZvP, that's for sure.

Genius didn't counter pressure quick enough and DRG didn't get punished for cutting a lot of corners to catch up. It is like Terran proxy 2 rax failing in fast 3 CC and the zerg doesn't attack until the 3rd has already kicked in.

If it was that bad every single Zerg would play mutas in ZvP. It's just a different style to play against and you need to play different to win against it. Don't make it sound like it's easier for Zerg to win with Mutas

Not really. If that was the case, Mass Muta would've never died. Zergs stopped going mass muta every game when protosses found out that all they have to do is defend and expand extremely slowly while fortifying all of their bases and then the zerg just dies to the protoss max.
muta games are by far the most frustrating thing ever. I mean. right now it seems like PvZ can only be annoying I guess. Either Turtle fest or another turtle fest.

Don't be silly, it is possible to survive and defeat muta styles in PvZ, it is one of the main reason the style has fallen out of fashion. Genius just handled it very poorly, he had the right idea of building cannons and getting storm tech to deflect the attacks. But he never quite positioned his HT right, and he didn't get to push out because he let a runby enter his base.
If Genius had managed to push out earlier he could have killed DRG in a straight up fight.

Actually, Squirtle HELD the 2 rax from Mvp in the finals. He just got his stalkers caught when he tried to take out the proxy rax when Mvp did the follow up scv pull. If his stalker didn't get caught, he holds 100%.

Yes, seems effective especially if P skips the first zealot and you can get that huge e-bay block. P just can't macro out their army fast enough. Although Genius held the first push. The drop did enough damage and denied mining for quite a bit.

What if it goes Bomber > DRG Bomber > Yoda Mini > DRG then it would still matter because you could have a 3 way tie for 2nd place between Mini, DRG, and Yoda at 2-2 where a single player didnt earn wins over the other two. Mini isn't completely eliminated yet unless DRG wins here or am I wrong?

Well i think leenock did it on ohana which is a good map for terran, but not so common to see cc first on it so it was very risky. CC first on Daybreak by Bomber vs DRG is what you would expect, and to be frank, its necessary if terran is to survive a macro game on that map.

I can stand an early pool build from time to time, expecially in a well thought out place in a BoX, but in a format like Up&Downs it is too much betting on luck. Additionally today's matches were pretty weird overall, so it kinda feels lke cheating to rob us of the potentially best matchup of the day like this.

with a player like DRG, it makes a lot of sense though because he is known for his greedy macro style.

Actually, the U&Ds are pretty good in regards to break. Just that they had some issues with mini's mouse today and also so games had to be skipped now so it seems like we are getting a lot of breaks.

YoDa was clearly going to win. the only player today that didn't win on the right side of the op was Mini and right side of the op had an 8 game win streak yesterday
Damn you Yoda... Making it back to Code S when I - after considerable time - didn't think you'd be able to make it... Anyway I'm happy for both DRG and Yoda.

Yoda had more tanks and air superior. It was a soft contain at first. But once he got position where he could hit the path between the 3rd and the natural. Bomber had no choice but to push because his 3rd would have been cut-off
I guess I need to eat my words regarding Bomber. I didn't expect him to just barely not make it into Code S. Glad to see DRG go trough though, hopefully he will have a good GSL season.
I think today sums up Bomber's career for the most part. Breaks into the scene with dominating wins. When he gets into a position where you think he's going to succeed he completely falls apart and underperforms

To be fair, that loss vs DRG was a BO loss. And he was behind on BO vs Yoda as well. But banshees might not have been a good choice on mech maps because it was likely Yoda would have quick starports for mech.

He got overpowered by bio in both the Bomber/YoDa games after he was behind in the early game. Game vs DRG was weird because he held a slow ling all-in but then was to passive and let DRG comeback after taking big risks. Then he lost to mass mutas.

DRG not making Code S would not feel right to me. Therefore, him qualifying for Code S makes things feel "right". For a moment? Yeah, for a moment. If he drops out in RO32, I'll be disappointed. If he goes down 0-4 in the OSL final, I'll be disappointed. Peril lurks at every turn. My expectations are high for him, what can I say?

Mini and Genius were both already mathematically out of Code S before their game vs each other. Their games were therefore no longer played. They weren't supposed to be played in succession at the end; the games were skipped.

On the other hand, Yoda had a great run in code A two seasons ago and fell down to code A in a really hard first round group (Hero and Symbol, both RO8 and he beat Ryung), and his loss to Hyun since doesn't look so bad. Taeja had to fail twice in code S before having some success in code S. Give him a second chance.
