The time has come for our thirty-seventh IGN Pro League Fight Club! This is a weekly king of the hill showmatch series. Basically, there will be a 1 vs. 1 best of 9 showmatch each and every week, where the winner will earn a $500 prize and a $100 bounty on their head. For example, if a player wins three weeks in a row they will have earned $1,500 and a $300 bounty. If a NEW challenger defeats him, they will earn $500 for the showmatch, take the $300 bounty home, and have a new $100 bounty placed on their head for each week that they win.
When: Monday, Oct 15 11:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00) (we will also broadcast the match repeatedly afterwards!)
TSL's HyuN has now claimed Fight Club nine consecutive weeks. His victims now include IPL4 winner, aLive, IPL4 runner-up Squirtle, GSL Semifinalist and GSTL standout FXO.GuMiho and now GSL Semifinalist ByuN.Prime. Now, Liquid`Sea is trying his luck to dethrone the best champion Fight Club has ever seen. If he wins, he will claim $500 and a staggering $900 bounty!
Too soon for Sea to be taking on Hyun. I'm sure this matchup will attract views since Sea is Kespa and Liquid but if we honestly assess his skills at the moment he doesn't stand a chance. Hyun 5-1.
Guys it's not like Sea started with SC2 since he joined TL. Just look how good the other PL guys are performing at the moment, it's quite possible for him to win. I wouldn't overrate it if he loses a lot on stream.
I love Sea, but I just don't think that he's on Hyun's level yet. If this match happens again 3 or 4 moths later I think Sea could win, but I gotta think Hyun can win this pretty comfortably.

Sea has been struggling with motivation and performance ever since MBC disbanded. The switch to Liquid should rejuvinate his career in the long run but just as with Hero and Taeja it will be a few months before he hits his stride.
2 former MBC players playing against each other is pretty cool but like others have said I'm not really sure either if Sea is good enough opponent for HyuN. Sea was crazy good BW player but I feel like he haven't practised that much yet and will get crushed but I'll still watch it for sure. Hoping Sea to win it or at least take couple maps. gl!

I'd rather have fraer against someone else, now that we've already had Titan, you can see Hyun vs fraer every other week in ZOTAC Cups anyway.
IPL should just man the fuck up and give him a ZvZ opponent, namely Life if his schedule allows it or Curious. Hell, they could ask Nerchio back or invite Scarlett for all I care, but seeing Hyun dominate Terran and Protoss is getting kind of stale at this point.

Totally agreed with this. I'd love to see life, Scarlett, Nestea or DRG vs Hyun

You are generalizing way too much. Just because in general KeSPA players are performing well, doesnt mean than any former KeSPA pro can beat any already established player (ESF). Hyun is on a freaking beastmode, coming off wins vs alive, Gumiho and Byun. Sea however isnt among the KeSPA players who have shown amazing games in SC2.

Nestea is no longer what he used to be unfortunately, do you really want to see him get stomped? I could see DRG taking out Hyun, not sure if he's played in IPL FC though (Don't think he has)
DRG was invited to play Polt, accepted but then changed his mind and declined later, I think. He never played after that, not sure if he'd play with potential cross-server games incoming if he wins. DongRaeGu is known for avoiding cross-server games at all costs. :D
I can imagine this is how the conversation went before the match
Nazgul: "So Sea, you are all ready for SC2 progaming?" Sea: "Hell yeah, making it to Masters in a week feels good!" Nazgul: "Good! Now, we set you up for a Bo9 series against TSLHyuN!" Sea: "........."
In all seriousness, this is almost certainly a sweep 5-0 for HyuN. Seems like a cruel way to initiate Sea into Liquid, but I guess he can learn from the best by facing the best. Also, congratulations for being the only member of the Ten Kill Club HyuN.

I don't see Sea taking more than 1 game.
I can see Sea taking maybe 2 games if Hyun roach rushes and it doesn't work or maybe 1 game with a timing but he won't get to 3 wins.

I doubt Sea will win in a long-term macro game. Both players have excellent mechanics, but HyuN has more comfortability and knows the compositions better than Sea. The only ways I see Sea winning is through 2 Rax or with HyuN screwing up majorly in an engagement. Sea has only been really practicing on ladder, but he has the many replays of HyuN's ZvT to study. Still, this should probably end with a HyuN victory, I'm 95% sure.
Will be very surprised if Sea takes a game. Hyun is quite good, and Sea is taking a while to transition. He's getting there but he's not good enough to beat Hyun yet. Watching his recent games vs Happy (I think?), he had way better macro but he threw away army after army into siege lines. You need way more than macro to beat someone like Hyun.

Yes, but if you look at how Sea is performing (in comparison with Hyun), you would probably agree Hyun is more likely to win. It doesn't matter how Rain and Flash is doing. How course Sea could win, but I wouldn't bet on it.

We threw the best TvZer at HuyN already ( Gumiho, BuyN ) I really don't see any Terran who hasn't play who can defeat him.
We need Seed. Or a Zerg.
Any IM terrans played fight club yet? Mvp definitely can take a bo9 of HyuN, maybe YoDa and Happy as well (probably not). And the IM protosses are ofc good choices as well.
I'll be honest. I loved Fight Club. Before Hyun changed it to Club-where-hyun-beats-on-random-people. Since he will never lose can we just make him eternal champion and find two new people?

I find that Hyun's long series adds to the Fight Club drama. Love the show <3.
I'm the SC2 Operations Manager and I am the one that decides Fight Club participants.
I am working on getting many other players listed in this thread.
It's not always possible. Players don't respond, players decline. I get the best players I can as often as possible. On general principle, I don't want to reinvite players until it's been a calendar year (approaching soon) because many players still haven't had a chance to play that want to.
Without naming individual players, most have declined due to Code S, OSL, scheduling or other reasons, some have been unreachable.
That said, I am not ruling out ZvZs anymore and have been wanting Life for two weeks now. He's a little busy with Code S finals though.

Fight Club one of the only things I watch really consistently!
Fight club is actually one of the few event that create a story. Tournaments these days are a bit unpersonnal, because there's so many of them. But Fight club is unique, not too often and a KotH format always create interessing things imo.

Find a good TvZ sniper. Sea is good, but hyun is a beast at ZvT. He seems to do these roach checks that just pound standard opening terran that doesn't scout well...
I thought byun would have done better than he did.

there are many better alternatives around than Sea, nothing against this incredible player (at least in BW), but you should try to invite a Code S/Code A player next time, which would sure add more excitement to the matchup. Hyun is on a roll right now, and I would prefer to see a high calibre player such as Rain/Life to put him to the test.

Symbol is good but sketchy recently. His playstyle is not particularly suited to being a top level ZvZ player.

Also, Sea's last televised Brood War game was September 1st, and Team 8 got knocked out of the Proleague playoffs the day after that, so it's accurate to say he's only been exclusively playing SC2 for a month or two.

"As often as possible", with the occasional popularity grab, right? It's all good, no bad blood. I find it mindboggling that some players are actually unreachable. As much as we like to toute the korean practice schedule and general environment, their management seems sometimes more than just a bit messy.

Not necessarily get rid of him, but at this point they should at least send players who can be considered a very serious threat to him. Sea isn't.

First game, yes. Second game, an early Ling attack.
First game was macro, second roach rush, third was a 6-8 pool, I didn't see it at the start
If it started with a roach rush it's not a macro game. Anyone can win with a massive early game advantage.
No, It is, I think you're wrong, if it still goes to late game, then its a macro game, same as if terran goes for 2 rax but it doesn't kill zerg but it kills the hatch its still a macro game if it gets to hive tech etc
Just seems like IPL picked up on the Sea hype and added him to appease the Liquid fans. I really doubt anyone looking objectively would seriously favor Sea in this.
Players like him and Life are seriously scary to watch. Just so aggressive, and you know they have the mechanics to fall back on and still be able to get the brood/infestor deathball.
he just needs some more confidence, that was not the BW Sea yet. I am still confident that he was a good buy for TL. SC2 fans, you will see. Sea will be awesome.
On October 16 2012 09:04 ref4 wrote: Sea is pulling an IdrA right now.
Hardly. Game 3 was an insta-loss, or at absolute best, a waste of another 5 minutes. He was building a CC as lings arrived, had his only rax in the air (would have had a hard time landing it, and was building 2 refineries.
In game 4, he had no vikings, had just lost 2 full medivacs for no damage vs a well proportioned BL/ling/infestor army against a tank heavy Terran army. It was over.
If Hyun wins this game he becomes the ten-time, ten-time, ten-time, ten-time, ten-time, ten-time, ten-time, ten-time, ten-time, ten-time IPL Fight Club champion!
(wish I had that Booker T picture that was posted in the GSL semis thread)
As a Liquid fan I'm happy that Sea didn't get beat 5-0 straight out. That's at least a small amount of confidence boost for him at least. I'm sure everyone, including himself, knew that he stood no chance against HyuN anyways. That guy is just on fire in IPL FC.
I'm pretty sure they said the next player hadn't been picked yet so I don't think they can have been played unless the casters just hadn't heard or something. Plus, Sea was a replacement for someone who pulled out - can't imagine them picking him if they had another person lined up straight after.
By the way, who is that he played? I can't figure out how to tell.
I think Scarlett would actually be a pretty good choice for next week if you could book her. She had very good (and entertaining!) ZvZ, so would actually be quite a formidable opponent.
Congratulations to HyuN for winning his 10th Fight Club!
rofl. Guy's just unbelievable ^^
Would have been pretty interesting if Sea had won, although based on how well HyuN has been playing in this league (and based on how Sea hasn't really been tearing shit up exactly), 5-1 was pretty expected.
On October 16 2012 10:33 Gamegene wrote: IGN is going to feel the burn in their wallets once HyuN's bounty exceeds 2000$.
It doesn't work like that. IPL pays $600 regardless of what happens. If someone like Hyun goes on a streak, the $100 bounty just isn't paid out right away and it builds up. If Hyun's bounty does get to $2000, it means IPL has been 'saving' the $100 bounty for 20 weeks.

They've stated numerous times in past episodes that they would try to avoid mirror matches. Why? Because most people seem to hate them and they are generally shorter than normal match ups. However, in this case I think they really need to throw a curve-ball at HyuN with a Zerg player. Although Rain doesn't sound like a bad choice either! Although he has the OSL to practice. MC and DRG are formidable opponents either way.
At this point, I say throw the whole no mirror except TvT rule out the window. If the players are popular enough, people will watch a mirror, you can't just exclude 1/3 of the game's match-ups for some arbitrary rule. DRG vs Hyun would get way more views than Hyun roflstomping some mid tier foreigner anyway.
Let's get a real opponent for Hyun this time eh instead of a populairity contest, Sea is improving greatly but to put him out there was just silly to start with.
I would say if you get another Terran (which I recommend don't even bother if you want Hyun to lose), get Jjakji.
Otherwise, get a Protoss player. I would actually highly recommend this in fact.
And to all you fools who keep saying "Sea is not good yet", and whatever non-sense, realize that Hyun has gone 5-1 vs Major, 5-3 vs Byun, 5-3 vs Gumiho, and also 5-0 against aLive. Just because Sea lost 5-1 to a Zerg player that has been crushing everyone does not say much about him in regards to his skill sense.
Mindboggingly silly that Sea was picked (to me at least), someone absolutely top tier is needed to knock HyuN off now, and Sea absolutely isn't that yet.

What? It was fake? What was fake about it? I watched at least the first four episodes in their entirety... I remember Hyungjoon cheesing with a 9pool speed build and taking a game off a totally mediocre player in what I presumed was a BO counter and possibly lured into (for example, have the other person go 12 hatch vs a BBS but have the Zerg try to legitimately defend it), but not actually fake!

Online Hyun > GSL Hyun. Not sure if it is nerves or what. But you can see it in his play. His decisions just seem really strange when he plays in GSL. Especially his g3 vs Vampire with his mass mutas...
