Winner of the PokerStrategy.com League
[image loading]
Pedro "LucifroN" Moreno Duran managed to win the PokerStrategy.com league to bring down $2.500 after 70 maps, with 46 wins. His last match against TITAN added him another 8 points ( final results 8:2 ) to overcome Kas eventually by 5 Points. With an overall score of 5 wins 1 tie and only one loss in the entire league, one can say that LucifroN well deserved this first place.
A few interesting stats are listed below. We wish all of you a merry christmas!

As you might see we have outstanding mapscores on Ohanas PvZ ( difference of +11 in favor of Protoss ), in Cloud Kingdoms TvP ( difference of +7 in favor of Terran ), in Whirl winds TvP ( difference of +7 in favor of Terran ). Please note, that the sample size of these stats is pretty low and therefore its hard to make any statement on the balance of those maps.

Out of all matches, the most often result was 7:3 with eleven times. Followed directly by the 6:4 result which appeared eight times , while all other results happened to be four times.

9 of the greatest players from 9 different countries
come together in a unique league system.

Every player will play 10 maps against every other player.
So you get to see 80 maps from every player!

Each map is worth one point.
The player with the most points wins the league!

We have 3 players from each race.
So you will see plenty of awesome games in every matchup!

This is the ultimate test of StarCraft skill.
Join us in the coming weeks to see who will become
the PokerStrategy.com League Champion!

Prize Pool: $8,900.

Most of the players will also be streaming their matches on their own channels.
So if you prefer to have a first person view on the games you will have the chance to do so!

Players of the league have to play one match against each of
the listed opponents. Matches always consist of 10 maps
- all maps have to be played out.

Spectators are only allowed in-game if both players agree.
The exception are the official casters.

Every map win scores 1 point. In case two players are equal in score,
the rank is shared – and the prize pool averaged.
Example: three players share #7 means that they all get
($600+$500+$400)/3 = $500.

Map pool:

For every match, the order of the 7 maps will be determined randomly
in advance. The 7 maps are then played in the determined order.

At any time before the match starts (can be days or weeks in advance),
both players veto two maps each in ABBA order. The player listed on the left will be player B.
The 3 remaining maps are then played in the order they appear in the initial map order for the match.

Ourk comes to mind, I think he's the highest rated non-Korean that's played all 3 races recently. Might be TLO going back to his old ways as well, even though I'd rather he didn't.

That's what I thought too, good logic imo. Probable Zerg lineup is Nerchio - Sortof - Morrow.

1 from each country, Morrow & SortOf both swedish. So that isn't possible. Maybe Dimaga? (I hope Dimaga)

10 Maps per match and 9 players are 80 games per player only, although I'd like to see Grubby vs Grubby
Don't like caster lineup very much but let's wait and see.

Really hope one of the Zergs is Scarlett! They've shown 3 WCS national champions so far so it isn't impossible...
I root for Euro Zergs, NA Protoss* and Korean Terrans. (Any North American who has beat a Korean Pro as Protoss counts as NA Toss)

Dirk from Team Grubby just made me aware of one thing we didn't really get out in the announcement:

Players will stream their own games!

Means:
1. First-person view for the fans.
2. Players are able to earn some additional money through their streaming.

But it will still be organized as an actual event when the games are actually being played, right? In the sense that we at least know the dates/times when the games are played and it appears on TL event sidebar.

yes, there will be default playing times for all matches.
And I guess it should appear - thanks to the casters & players - in the sidebar.

Right? And the best thing is that every single game counts so even if one of the players loses 1-9, the one point can still help him to win the league; for the same reason it's also an ill decision to get angry and just throw games away if you're behind in the series.

This is a very important point which should not be missed It's kinda like a Showmatch league but with prestige and a lot of prize money! ^_^

lol, I of course miscalculated once again - I should just keep my mouth shut about numbers.

It's 10 maps in 36 matchs, i.e. 360 maps.
If you'd watch them in succession from both player perspectives AND the caster perspective, it would at least be a bit more than 1000 * 0.25 = 250 hours.

I bet I still did a mistake :D

S could be Serbia as well as Spain (so Beasty instead of Luci). Likewise U could stand for UK (Demu) as well as Ukraine.

K is obviously Korea though, and I think SeleCT is the most likely candidate there. He's the only Terran not based in Korea which eliminates a bunch of cross server and play time issues with the European players, and he kind of fits the profile and level of other invites and the league the most.

Last bunch of players can now be found in the OP. Kas, Lucifron and SelecT are completing our player roster.
The first matches will be played next week and will be announced in a separate thread tomorrow.

Kas is clear and heavy favorite... Best macro play and with so many games played losing to occasional cheese won't mean much.

I think you've got it backwards. Kas is very good vs cheese, but he's not the best macro player.

After two match days, the field looks very equally matched - and 6-4 is hardly making someone a favourite.

Do you think it will change tonight with Titan vs Snute?
Can the first series of 10 PvZ maps put someone in a clear #1 spot with 7 or 8 wins?

This is certainly going to get interesting Snute isn't the most conventional zerg, so I doubt it will just be 30 minute camping into hive vs deathball. Should be some interesting games tofay!

Grubby vs LucifroN in just a few hours! Grubby's probably my favourite non-BlinG/non-Korean player, so I'm well up for him to smash it today. Two former WC3 pros clashing in SC2. Should be really interesting.

Can you give out information, if SeleCT - Kas has been played yet or if it is rescheduled? Because LP does´nt show a result yet.

Some stats on the League after 100 maps played:

1x 9:1
0x 8:2
4x 7:3
2x 6:4
3x 5:5

PvT - 8:22 (27%-63%)
PvZ - 24:16 (60%-40%)
TvZ - 16:14 (53%-57%)

T - 38:22 (63% win rate)
P - 32:38 (46% win rate)
Z - 30:40 (42% win rate)

Ranking in avg. maps per match:

1. Kas 6.5 in 2
2. Socke 6 in 2
2. Lucifron 6 in 2
4. Sheth 5.3 in 3
5. Snute 5 in 2
6. SeleCT 4.5 in 2
7. TitaN 4.3 in 3
8. MorroW 4 in 2
9. Grubby 3.5 in 2

Still plenty of things can happen, as we're not even 28% through the league!

Being behind 1:2 after 3 maps, Snute started to dominate MorroW and books his first win against him with a final score of 8:2. That catapults him into first place in the league temporarily. He is now one of 3 players left that have not lost a match yet, the others being Socke and Lucifron. Is Snute emerging to become a serious contencer for the title of PokerStrategy.com League Champion and the $2.500 prize money for first?

Tomorrow we are looking at Socke vs. LucifroN who both have 12 maps won on their account. And are the only players in the league that have not lost a match yet. It will take 7 map wins for any of them to claim first place in the league. Who of those incredibly good players will emerge as the winner tomorrow? Cast your vote here:

http://www.pokerstrategy.com/forum/thread.php?threadid=208383

So far LucifroN seems to be the favourite.

Hopefully Socke can take a few maps...but Lucifron is better in PvT than him, and Socke did lose 0-2 to him at WCS...so i think the winner is already desided.

But nevermind, GoGo Socke!

Well Socke was already not looking very good in the last month. His WCS performance was not too bad but only because he had big bracket luck and a great seed. He definitely could have made more out of that.

We should consider that Lucifron is very strong right now especially against Protoss. He also demolished Grubby with 7:3.
Nevertheless socke has to improve a lot to catch up to the europes best players. I hope he does well at DH valencia.

Hoping Kas and guessing Snute.

Kas is playing the HotS tournament Khaldor casts atm, that might take a while since he has to play either finals or third place match next in any case. Will this match still happen tonight?

That was very frustrating to watch. Sheth had a very solid army and proceeded to throw small increments of it at Grubby. No idea how much his lag issues factored into that but it was a very anticlimatic last game ./.

He would not have beaten Grubbys army anyway.
Had he gotten his infestors out of his main maybe but without them he had no chance.

Grubby beats Sheth 7:3 and collects his first victory in the league. Let's see if that marked a turning point for him.
I have updated the league table in the OP for your interest.

Additionally, we are looking at the last PokerStrategy.com League match for this week at 20:00 CEST tonight:

[image loading] VS [image loading]

Both players probably have plans: LucifroN wants to take back the seat in the sun at the top of the board and end this week as league leader just as he did last week and SeleCT surely wants to leave the bottom spot of the league table and catch up with the others.

Will LucifroN confirm his strong performances over the last weeks? Will he stay the only player without a lost match?

Kas' macro is just hilariously better than Select's. He's up on supply and upgrades despite losing 20+ workers and killing none.

We're not uploading on YouTube - but the casters Twitch.tv channels should prove to be good hunting grounds.

Yesterday, Grubby casted TitaN (P) - SeleCT (T) - all 10 maps!
And Grubby indeed is an awesome caster!

Wow, yes - that's a turnaround.

First, 3-1 for Sheth - now, 6-3 for LucifroN.

Are these already the points that could make him the league champion?

Wow, LucifroN is dominating this league so much it's not even funny anymore :D.
No matter the match-up, he just demolishes his opponents.
How did MorroW manage to 5-5 him? o,o

@Brandish: vods are at the casters Twitch.tv pages - we're not uploading VODs separately.
See e.g. here: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewpost.php?post_id=16454137

Right now, LucifroN is down 4-0(!) against Snute.
Can this change the course of the league?
Or is LucifroN already too far ahead?

This right here is the weakest game I've seen from Snute in forever. Really impressive run up until now, hope he can close off the series. Snute fighting!

He already won a few maps by just spamming lings and/or roaches

Haha, I know you're probably not serious, but you realise that Snute's arguably biggest accomplishment came before the "zerg patch"? He's been a top player (foreigner) for ages now, with his agressive style. If he participated in more MLGs/Dreamhacks he'd be far more known.

Obligatory Norwegian response.

Yeah I've seen some guys on Reddit call Nerchio a patchzerg. Facepalm.

6-4 at the end - probably still a decent result for LucifroN's ambitions to get to #1.
But also a great performance by Snute!

So MorroW is getting kinda rolled right now. Expected though, looking at their practice regimen.

Final score: TitaN 9-1 MorroW

It's getting tense - what do you think, who will win?
LucifroN, Kas, Snute look like the favourites.

Gogo, Lucifron! 6-4 for Titan would be the coolest result for me, Luci wins the league and Titan gets 3rd/4th. But I think Lucifron will win the series outright.

Well done, Titan practiced with Kas to get ready for this but it looks like it didn't help too much! :D

Congratulations to Lucifron, he was clearly the best player throughout the whole tournament.

The stats from your TvP in mapscores seems way off, well at least in the addition you did for protoss.

Protoss wins against Terran on map:
Daybreak: 3
Antiga: 1
Entombed: 4
Ohana: 2
Cloud Kingdom: 0
Whirlwind: 2
Muspelheim: 4

Total: should be 16, you have in your image 59.
that is a huge overlook, can we trust your other stats?

This would also change the overall win % you have for Protoss from 58%, down to a 37%

Edit: Looking at the image again, I believe I found where you got the error of 59 protoss wins from.
It seems you may have just not cleared your calculator when you were tallying up that row.
You probably had the 43 left over in calculator from adding up the Terran wins, then when you go to add for Protoss wins it just kept adding to the 43, bringing you to a total of 59.
Everything is going to be okay.
