Imo he still has ~50% chances to beat top zvz zergs and is definitely favored against weaker ones.

Not terrible, but a cheap way to enhance the finals. It actually makes a lot of sense. AFAIK in the Bracket 1 and Bracket 2 finals the person coming from the loser's bracket does face a disadvantage. The reason the Grand Finals is on even footing is because it doesn't matter what games you won/lost in your bracket, you won the bracket plain and simple.

Yup, but that still means that one person could have been in loosers, won bracket 1 from loosers, and the other could have won bracket 2 from winners, and yet get no advantage from it. Its not a true double elim, and while it makes the finals better compared to normal double elim, Single Elim would have better hype leading up to the finals. They had 32 players, why not just 2 group stages, down to 8 players, and then just play out a single elim... And they still have extended series. It just feels like MLG refuse to have normal tournament formats, just to be different.

The extended serie is not. In that way, you would have to lose twice normal serie to be eliminated. And in the grand final, you would have to win two final if you come from the loser bracket. It's what we use in super smash bros, and it's the best. Single elim bracket is not fair at all. Let's imagine you are the best player of the tournament, and at the second round of this tournament, you are going to play against your dark horse, the man that beat you but is not as good as you otherwise. You'll be eliminated, without a chance to come back. The loser bracket is a second chance that is great in a video game tournament. See Leenock at providence, he was the best player out there, and he lost badly to DRG who was good too, but it was kind coin flip matches. DRG lost later to naniwa and then Leenock won back and took the championship. So entertaining !
