The four players with the highest GSL 2012 point rankings are distributed to the four groups - 1st place to Group A, 2nd to group D, 3rd to group C and 4th to Group B.


There are three rounds of nominations:

• 1st place in points nominates their player, then 2nd to 4th (A - D - C - B).
  
• The nominated player in Group D nominates another player to join that group. Then the nominated player of Group C, B, and A follow (D - C - B - A).
  
• The nominated player in Group A nominates another player to join that group. Then the nominated player of Group B and C follow. The last player is placed in Group D (A - B - C - D).
