I can't think of a single dropped game that has not resulted in a re-game.
This is definitely the highest profile game of all time, so it makes it a super hot topic, but it has always been a re-game.
It seems that the rules are there in a very lax format so that the league and officials can judge a game in one favor or another legitimately, but never intended to be used.
It's not boxing match, not very simple to score. Until a uniform and consistent way of judging score/winner is agreed upon, it would be very controversial to judge a winner in any game, under any circumstances.
