Hey. Besides the obvious 'thank you for putting so much work into leagues / tournaments' I'd love if you could actually announce it a bit earlier. For us Europeans your announcement come very short before the match actually starts. Obviously the same goes for people from the US, but Europeans would most likely either be asleep or would go offline because they have nothing to look forward to.
I'm at work having a nightshift so I can watch it, but if I'd actually be at home I'd be asleep by now. My point is if you could just host the thread earlier so people from Europe can actually see there's a big match coming up (or people in the US even) you can gain a lot more viewers. Let the people know a day or even two before that there is something coming up, because you'll hype the match and profit from the word spreading.
Just my 2 cents :-)!
other than that.. my predictions:
Liquid`HerO 3-1 Artist oGs.SuperNoVa 1-3 ZeNEX_Life
|
Awesome! Two questions, this is starting in 20 minutes, right (it's not on the calendar)? Will both those series be played tonight? Both of them being in the OP suggests they will, but you also wrote that 'the first game' will be played tonight.

I hope this will be Life's breakout tournament, he could get a lot of fans with a good run here. I'd favor him against SuperNoVa, and HerO will beat Artist, too.
Nevertheless, it would be better for us Europeans if you posted the threads earlier. There's a big difference whether I want to stay up for e.g. Gumiho vs Apocalypse or Kas vs Jjakji.

I'm thinking Hero and Life. I think Life is def able to take down Supernova. Im not sure how much of a challenge Artist is going to be for Hero
I guess the problem people might be happening is while you did announce the matchups and the tournament a week ago, it does not say which order the first round games will be played. It just says First round games: GuMiho vs Apocalypse ThorZaIN vs NaDa Jjakji vs Kas Polt vs Squirtle HerO vs Artist SuperNova vs Life PuMa vs SeleCT Creator vs Rain
but obviously HerO vs Artist and SuperNova vs Life are being played on the first day, not GuMiho vs Apocalypse and ThorZaIN vs NaDa as you might assume from the game list. Is it possible to maybe update the announcement thread so we know which nights these games are on or is it a decision made too close to the broadcast day to announce beforehand?

People are underestimating Life a bit. Supernova is awesome, but Life is no pushover!
|
Artist representing ReIGN ;;
I actually think he has a good shot at HerO. Artist is an aggressive player who has a pretty solid midgame, and just excellent control vs late game Protoss armies.
|
Life so lucky, doesn't have to worry about ZvZ for the whole tourny.

Oh. Well then yes, I can see how that would be confusing, hehe. Fixed the OP!

SuperNova seems to be the kind of player who shines for a week before going back to messing his way out of games. I can see Life taking him down handily if he plays at his best.

lol this entire tourney is terran -.-

Kind of cheering for life to do well this tourney even though I don't typically root for many zergs. This guy is really good but can't seem to make it into the gsl. Hope he has a strong breakout performance here. I want either him or creator to take it all since I <3 prime

Only 6k for Hero vs Artist? I don't get it... And there's Supernova vs Life right after... yeah... weird
EDIT: Went to the bathroom and when I came back ... 6 slots bunker? what the hell is that?

Hmm, broadcasting 2/4 of the non-TvT's on the first day? Might want to have spread those out a bit more... That said, at least JYP is not in this

Man, those chargelots are unkillable lategame against Terran...
I wonder if a new revolutionary Terran player will ever incorporate lategame BF Hellions into play, to counter the bane of lategame TvP that are chargelots. Hellion+Marauder+Ghost+Viking lategame comp maybe?

You don't get it? How about this - only popular Live events like MLG and the Live portion of IPL would be able to get huge numbers of viewers for this level of name recognition at this stage in the brackets. HerO is well-known, Supernova okay, but Artist isn't, and neither is Life. None of these players are able to bring in the numbers by themselves, being neither trendy foreigners or tip top Koreans, the two groups that are able to draw in viewers to online tourneys.

The reason might be that they were 2-2 against 1-0 bio. The fact that hero was ahead in supply might also have something to do with the way that the zealots smashed their way through everything.

Disagree. I am having tons of fun watching those games, but I could not remember that today ToC was going to take place. I am watching based on pure luck, so I guess this applies to other people too
And yeah... almost 9k now That's what I'm talking about \o/

Good play by Life there. I thought he did very well to deal with many of Supernova's multi-pronged attacks.

I really don't want to sound biased, but is it just me that gets the impression that SuperNoVa is playing a lot better, yet losing? I know its very hard to play against this style of Zerg ands its easier to play than other Zerg styles so a player like Life who's already insanely good will be even better.
I am well aware how well Life is playing as well, but yet it feels like SuperNoVa with his constant drops that by the way deal damage as well and don't just get shut down is doing the better job. I mean, yes he was (very) late on his upgrades and his third base but he decided to apply pressure at the cost of sacrificing upgrade timing and third base.
Polt usually pressures a bit earlier but gets a 3rd base at the cost of upgrades and has to be a bit more defensive after that... so am I the only one getting that impression :/?

I hope you were aware of the fact that Life outupgraded SuperNova all game long and of course his job was to defend drops and he did well. I was rooting for Life and at one point where SuperNova almost caught up to the upgrades. However, he never had marauders? No ? After he took down the 3rd of Life with the drop, he could've sat back and defended his 3rd, instead he overextened himself into the 4th of Life. And that was the game ending imo.

I am very well aware of it, thats what I said. He sacrificed his upgrades / expansion timing for the pressure. Usually Zerg would be on 3 bases and you can pressure him so he doesn't take that 4th so easily, but Life managed to do so. Even if you kill the third base of Zerg, it doesn't really mean much to a Zerg since he didn't kill drones to be honest. A few here and there, but never a "damaging" amount. If he sits back on 3 base against this style, he'll get utterly destroyed later on because
- his upgrades are later and will be later, the ultra-timing will be earlier since you won't apply pressure - drops can be shut down a lot more effective as you can prepare with spinecrawlers and get your infestor count up
If he doesn't go ultras but went broodlords instead, you are fucked again if you tried to blindcounter it with marauders so.. yeah. This style just leaves the impression that its easy to execute. I know thats only half-true, but most Zergs I talk to even agree on that. (i.e MorroW's post comparing that style to muta/ling/bane). I'm not saying its imbalanced, just very hard to face.
And a Zerg out-upgrading you is nothing you can really do about if you play standard Terran. Double ebay early on is nothing but a sacrifice of tech and allows Zerg to get a lot of infestors easily as you do not have a tankstack build up. Being even on upgrades with the Zerg but sacrificing tank count for it is worthless, as fungal doesn't care about upgrades.

Keep the tournament interesting and save us from the terrans! Sad thing is, if Life wins this, he will be matched against Hero next round. There aren't enough Zergs and Protosses in this tournament already, yet they are killing each other.

Cloaked banshees fuk yeah

The cloak banshees he's using are mainly for the later stages of the game as an investment against this infestor / ling style, because it takes either a lot of energy and effort to kill cloak banshees with infestors, not to cause a lot of damage to Zerg early. If you still can deal damage - good - if not, you have a tool against infestors.
Like that play from SuperNoVa.

If he sits back on 3 base against this style, he'll get utterly destroyed later on because - his upgrades are later and will be later, the ultra-timing will be earlier since you won't apply pressure - drops can be shut down a lot more effective as you can prepare with spinecrawlers and get your infestor count up If he doesn't go ultras but went broodlords instead, you are fucked again if you tried to blindcounter it with marauders so..
I only just started watching and didn't see the game, but I assume you're talking about the ling (roach) infestor 14ish minute hive style that's becoming more and more popular? That really is very easy to pull off now unfortunately, result of the ghost change that means you don't need to get an advantage midgame as Z to be able to go straight into broodlord infestor corruptor (or ultras).
It's really sad since it's changing what used to be an extremely dynamic matchup into a race for Z to get to lategame.

What in the...how long did it take for that Corruptor to come and attack the Banshees?
|
|
That was terrible by Life. Where was the overseer and corruptor when you first saw the banshees?
|
WOW. That is so insane comeback, rofl. I bet Life is pissed that Terran buildings can fly.
|
|
*sigh* zvt so good, but 1 zerg in tournament. He might go out next game too :/
|
Good decision making by Supernova

Damn that was frustrating to watch as a Life fan, but gotta handle it to supernova. Fighting spirit!

banshees are good but i feel like supernova should have gotten 1 or 2 vikings first to take out that 1 corruptor and then snipe every overlord/overseer/broodlord. Still, pretty hilarious.

HOLY CRAP!! Best basetrade ive ever seen. Nailbiting for the last 10 mins.

Uhhh why is the game designed so this can happen ? I do not know.

I genuinely don't understand what was so "amazing" to the finish of that game according to the casters. That was goddamn disgusting. Why can't terran or protoss ever find themselves in the same unwinnable situation vs zerg? Oh yeah, because their basic tier1 units can shoot air...

And that is what happens when your single corruptor take a coffee break... I'm sure that Life panicked and was unable to find his corruptor and overseer. Pretty funny game :D

No building left. Since its a replay it just shows 'Life has left the game' while it actually was 'Life was eliminated' so no rage quit there

Pretty sure it was not a ragequit btw, but rather that he lost his last building and was ejected from the game.
At least that was what it looked like. Of course, seeing that insanity was manifested anything goes.

wtf. 12 terrans, 3 protoss and 1 zerg. they should call it tournament of terrans.

If he actually had his infestor, queens and his corrupter sitting at his base, he would have been fine. (+ overseer obviously) There was no reason for him to move around the map as there was no mining for SuperNoVa. Just sit there and run around with lings scouting.

Whereas 1 Stalker > 1 Banshee? Or 1 Marine > 1 Banshee?
What was kind of disgusting was that the Overseer and Corrupter were lacksadaisically doing naught and nil while unprotected, cloaked Banshees won the game. But the suspense and the hilarity of the situation was quite epic indeed.

You do realize that if Life played somewhat decently in that situation he should have scouted the banshees, right? The only hope Supernova had at winning the game was that his banshees would go unscouted, and if it wasn't for this, Life was the one in an unlosable position, despite getting to such position just because he made broodlords, to which supernova, despite being ahead in everything, had no immediate answer, as he was maxed.
Also, this :

How about make 2 queens? queen = 150 min and banshee = 150 min 100 gas. Sure, 1 queen should kill 1 banshee...

I feel like this needs to be a public service announcement of some sort. So annoying to hear kids (casters even, which REALLY makes me cringe) crying about BM because a player was forced to leave the game.
Can't believe how poorly Life played out that game 4 though.

Why do people balance whine it's so stupid -.-' most of the people who do it aren't even in a position to understand what balance even is. Well... obviously in the case of this tourney, I guess it has something to do with the fact there are 12t, 3p and 1z, and that only 1 non-terran (EDIT: I mean currently, as there is still 1 non-TvT match left for WB R1) has been able to make it to R2 of WB... I mean it's not even balance whine, it's more being fed up of seeing terrans everywhere on every game...
