It will be kinda funny if WHire-Ra wins White-ra themed gear. Great line-up so far
|
As much as I love eSports and often skip sleep to watch some games. On Christmas eve at 18h00 i'm pretty sure it won't be possible for a lot of people to tune in =\
It's sad, looks like a great tour !
|
This is gonna be awesome. Gives me something to do Christmas eve before going to the bars. =)
|
would love to see Ret and haypro here. well im TL biased..
White-Ra Saphira mouse, White-Ra mousepad, this gear sounds so badass..
|
always same guys for invitational~~~
|
Don't seem that they considered that some european countries celebrate christmas (eat, celebrate, open presents and everything like that) on christmas eve and not christmas day -_-
Oh, and why is there keyboards, mice and headsets as prizes in a tournament for Pros? Most (if not all of them) ahave big sponsorships and would have little to no use of them...
|
Great lineup. Too bad though, the prize pool seems kinda low...

I think it will greatly affect the viewers number, though.

I'm not sure if this guy specifically meant it, but Tarson has always been a player who lays low, and nobody knows if he is playing. Then, he suddenly lands himself into a featured tournament and owns face. That's the way he's always been, and saying Tarson is not playing for months has become a joke/meme in the foreigner community since his days in Brood War.
More importantly, why does a European Invitational give it's prize money in USD? That's blatantly retarded.

Imagine Nerchio playing with a whitera mouse :D

Players I would love to see play still would be Socke, MorroW, Jinro and Naama. Mostly want to see MorroW though :D EDIT: I'm so stupid to forget SaSe *facepalm*

It's a bit weird having a European Invitational the 24th, most of EU:s christmas eve. Oh well. Can't have it all. Seems great anyway.

I hope you'll consider inviting some of the 'new' players that did well at WCG. Bling and Titan comes to mind.

Come on invite Naama !

Not a single fuck will be given in most of Scandinavia btw. We spend 24th of December driving around gifts, going to brunches, eating from 16/17ish~ and open presents after eating. It's a busy day with a shit ton of commitments and I cant imagine many people going to priortize watching a tournament with hardware prizes over all that. Why not host it on the 20 to 21st or something a little better? Tournament seems rushed and very half-assed.
|
Stephano Sase Nightend Ret Kas BratOK Thorzain Socke etc so many good player u can invite list goes on and on
|
Wow already sick EU lineup
Suggestion: Ret, Steph, Sase? Or is it only for who is currently in EU?

Can't be expected to have in depth knowledge of weird cultural customs everywhere. Though, Carlin is right, Christmas Eve is for Scandinavians what Christmas Day is for the Anglo-saxons.

Not just for Scandinavians, in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and i believe Poland its the same...this will have a large impact on the viewer count

Good lineup, but I wish they would do it like a day earlier. Christmasday is a bad for a lot of europeans. edit: Since this is an european based invitational aimed at europeans, you might think they would hold it at european friendly days. Oh well, I will watch the first day for sure.

In my experience, everyone's got fuck all to do on Christmas day past the first few hours anyway. Perfect day for ESPORTS

Except for some of the countries in east-europe, I think they do 24th of December celebration the same way in most of Europe - The way Scandinavia do it with the huge family gatherings, big dinners, attending brunches, traditional events (Church, graveyard, charity concerts, markets etc). It lasts the whole day and it takes a looooot of preparation. I'm not sure about the UK. So yeah, the 24th is a big no-no day for komputar use.

This is not a good justification for cutting down on invitationals. There are plenty of qualification based tournaments around and invitationals are generally far easier to organise.
|
For PlayhemTV the schedule is planned this way:
Katu and Frodan will be casting on the 23rd (ro16 - ro8 -Quarter Finals) Lyrlian and NerdSwagger on the 24th (third place match + Grand Finals)
|
3 new players enter the ring! Welcome our new contendors:
EmpireKas confirmed participation (top3 last wcg) EmpireHappy confirmed participation (one off the best wc3 player and top europe ladder) RoXKIS.TitaN confirmed participation (top4 last wcg)
Only 3 slots remain... I am personally hoping we can rangle dBling, Grubby, and perhaps Socke or GoOdY take the final spots.
|
1 more player has joined the tournament! Everyone please welcome Great Britain's new hope and Dignitas player dBlinG to the fray!
|
Nice that Bling and Happy are getting some more exposure, great players but they need more stage experience imo, wouldn't be surprised to see them as big LAN finalists next year, thank you twitch. Also... haven't heard of Tarson in a while, how is he doing ?

Btw, white-ra should make it to at least top 4, since I won't be able to see many (if any) of the games on friday, and white-ra games are just the best to watch.

All due respect, this is a particularily stupid post. 1. Tournament does not take place on Christmas day at all, but rather today, and Christmas Eve. 2. Christmas Eve is not celebrated in UK (and France iirc) at all, so your experience wouldn't really be very relevant in this situation (unless you were part of the royal family as they do celebrate the Eve. No Special Tactics for you, Bessy!). Yes, there are countries that will not be afected by this, as they don't celebrate on 24th (either not celebrating Eve, or doing so in Orthodox Church timeline). But for many (thankfully not the three invited Poles, but many potential viewers from many European countries ie Denmark, Latvia, Poland, Austria, Norway or Greece) this is an issue that will stop them from watching this event, as the most important celebrations take place on Eve, and start around the time the finals of TwitchTv invitational.

Your finals are on the worst day and hour for huge number of EU viewers.
And while we're at it, will there be vods released after the tournament, so we could watch it, ie on christmas morning (when we will have f-all to do)?

yeah, people which got fuck all of a family...
The 24th is like the worst possible date for a tournament in the entire year for Switzerland/Germany/Scandinavia (and Poland as it seems, i have no clue)... But the 24th basically "is" christmas for many countries... Seriously, it could not be worse, it is not humanly possible. 3 a clock in the morning during a weekday? Would be better.
Oh, and we also don't have santa claus and socks filled with presents, just in case you were wondering .
|
Maybe it's a test to see how many hardcore viewers there are - remember that this is TwitchTV.
|
Not everyone is catholic, especially in scandinavia/germany , most people just have a family meal on christmas day, and/or go to church at 11pm on christmas eve. If you are going to dine all afternoon on saturday, you are a minority tbh.
|

The thing here is, that the family christmas meal you've mentioned, takes place in many countries on the christmas eve instead of christmas day. And it's the most important family event in many countries, and as such - celebrated by christians, non practicing christians, practicing atheists ( ;-) ) and atheists alike.
I have to say, if nothing else - I'm learning about how different countries celebrate during holidays
BTW, for TwitchTv - it's a longshot, but you could try getting your hands on Electrolux organizer/personal ledger for management (other big companies probably have similar ones) for future reference - they have great country/holiday/religion tables, with short description of how it's celebrated (important or not, workday or not (Eve is a working day at least for several hours in Poland, and iirc in Germany it's not uncommon to be going out after the dinner).

At least in if they want anyone from Northern Europe watching.

Well, Lithuania is unimpressed by the date either (love talking for the whole country hehe) :D As a female, I can't be asked to spend even 10 mins of that day doing something not Christmas eve related (and I'm kinda struggling at finding spare minutes today too)... But I guess some males (the main demographic) could watch anyways, if their moms/wives/sisters are making dinners, cleaning homes, etc. all on their own (those lazy bastards)

Was Tarson even practicing last few months? He looks pretty bad

Cloud already 2-0'd Strelok or was that some kind of defwin?

1:1 Nerchio vs Titan, 3rd game on Antiga
Nerchio opened fast 1 base roach push vs FFE and manage to enter the base and kill massive amount of probes while double expanding after 11min 40 vs 70 supply for nerchio
|
TITAN have no chance against Nerchio
nerchio got gold on antiga and 4th base up.
|
|
2:1 for Nerchio fast 11 mutas killed all titans economy and he got few sentries and 3 stalkers without blink to counter them
|
|
TLO vs Bly insane game!!
TLO's ZvZ style is totally crazy..
|
|
Lucky TLO. Both have nothing left, but he wins the last skirmish ^^

|
|
BlinG vs Kas in the first round T_T
Hope Kas takes it though. His play has been amazing recently
|
And again TLO nydusing in his opponents main/third with roaches and drones and building spores there against mutas, killing all the hatches - WP sir
|
|
double forge style! YEAAAAAAH!
go go blinG!
|
Mana is casting Kas vs Bling on his stream.
|
I really like the transition back towards storm we're starting to see.
I missed Storms.
As I type this..... BlinG doesn't get Storm T_T
EDIT: Wow AMAZING engagement by BlinG.....loved the re-enforcing Zealot flank at the end too.
|
|
TB has really improved his casting since i last watched his casts. great content twitch!!
|
Those Viking Upgrades by Kas are really making a difference. This is a great TvP I love it. Great engagements by both sides.
I hope in 2012 we see more Europeans at big name LANs
|
TvP lategame as usual. Both overmins and in the end the Terran's only option is to stick to mostly T1 units. :/
|
Terran loses 40 supply, Bling loses 100
lolz
|
Bling! Why don´t you research storm!
|
thats whats happen when you playing without storm-feedback against terran
|
Awful choice by BlinG to add that many Archons when he knew there was a high Ghost count.
BlinG really needed to research Storm.

bitbybiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit
Nah I'm pretty sure he's going to stick with 4, it'll be quite strong and will be very hard to defend with a nexus first, good metagaming on term.

You have too many zealots in your comp to push that ramp, BlinG needed to defend that rather that try and counter, I feel like with a bit better crisis management he could have had this game, Kas's main is even mined out lol

He had zero templars in his main.
Dimaga is constantly flying directly over manas main and natural and never getting hit by storms.
Mana also has been surrounded by lings with his stalkers TWICE, with no storms to protect them.

That's a retarded argument, stop that.
Plenty of protoss who practice 8 hours a day are becoming very good against muta play and keeping cannons + 2 templar in every mineral line.
Air zerg is really weak in a direct battle, if a protoss maxes out and gets a mothership, zerg should almost always lose.

First of all, NEVER count out Tarson. Dude isnt active for MONTHS and comes in and 2-0 2-0 He holds a lot...
And about Kas' TvZ. It's either really hyper aggresive (read cheesy, often involving a lot of hellions) or super conservative solid macro, with quick 3rd and often a focus on upgrades, with an eventual slowpush and drops. It's good though, prolly his best after TvT (which is amazing, most of the time).

oh man kas had very bad engagements but he showed what kind of macro monster he is. His Macro completly made up for these engagements. Although Kas usually is known to have decent micro and control too :/

I think it's very obvious Kas was lagging ridiculously in that game. No pro level Terran would screw up that many engagements simply because he didn't siege, let alone split marines......

Even before that, did you see how poorly he microed his hellions?
Nerchio should have probably lost another 5-10 drones, but the hellions were sitting besides spines and stuff.
Def prob lag
|
I wish Nerchio would consider a more drone heavy style, he always plays with so less drones. He's mostly around even in terms of worker with P / T, while his management style is fricking ridiculously good, but he often plays from behind in Zerg terms.

There've been several clearly documented instances where Idra left while he still had a fighting chance. Vs HuK and MMA at MLG comes to mind.
Most of the times, IdrA is far behind when he gg, but sometimes a player is far behind but can comeback if the opponent throw his lead by doing lot of mistakes. I don't understand how can a pro player say gg without at least trying till the end. I'm not at all a pro but even on ladder, i play till the end of the match no matter what happens.
Edit : For example, i'm thinking of a game versus Leenock @ MLG (Providence I think ?) on Taldarim altar, when after a fast expand and good defense by Leenock, IdrA has less drones, less zerglings and less banelings. IdrA comes to the ramp of Leenock and after seeing his army, he gg and leave... Why not even trying ? ZvZ is a micro-intensive match-up and a mistake can happen, even from Leenock.

WOW..... NO WAY really Tarson?!?! Tim the TechLab you lucky son of a gun man.
*Edit* - Really back and forth game, exceptional game.
|
tarson holdsssssssssssssssssss!
as always.
|
Amazingly fun game to watch! Great play from MaNa to take it at the end though !
|
|
that was so fun to watch :D gg MaNA!
|
Top 2 control by Mana
|
|
Haha what an entertaining game! :D
|
one of the most exciting games i've ever seen
|
Had Tarson sniped the observer like, 5 minutes ago, he would've easily held and won.
|
Hahah, MaNa rewatching the replay, the tech lab dropping down to 1 health, 6 health, and 2 health right after each other ;p, sooo close :p.
|
Sooo close, great game :D
|
nice game ... I really thought MaNa was dead after that hellion runby
|
what a great game, really really tense.
|
Well, thats why You should fight till the end. I am fairly cartain that in Manas postion Idra would have gg'ed after that helion run by.
|
TARRSON HOOOOOOOOOOOLDS!
almost :-[
|
Oboy imagine that game at a GSL final. Best, as in most exciting, game I've seen in a long long time.
|
Ok, that game 1 with Mana vs Tarson was sick.
Mana should have won much easier if he snipes the Tech Lab, but DAT BLINK MICRO was just sick. It's crazy how someone with top 3 control like that can really use stalkers if the map allows it. Tarson made some crisis mistakes, but that micro was just insane. Definite must watch.
Plus, watching Mana's stream and TB on another stream is just crazy too.

those medivacs just got raped...

Pisses me of when same casters/specs always slow down/lag the game. Have some respect and stop joining the games ffs...

Damn, love how Tarson is always able to take a break for so long, then come back and put on such a performance.
Hope he gets invited to HSC4 again.
|
tarson is a beast, I remember MC casting his games against Bischu at Dreamhack and saying he was gosu lol >< go Tarson!
edit:nvm lol, that shouldn't have been able to happen.
|
...ok that was like the most cost-inefficient trade humanly possible for Tarson lol
|
And that is why you dont go into lategame versus protoss...
|
Silly Tarson.. Letting it get to late game. Can't beat Mana's PvT late game.
|
|
Shit happens when you eat a couple of storms like that!
|
Sick storms and some excellent micro from Mana, wp!
edit: and thanks to the organisers for letting imba.tv cast the games, mcDuffs is class.

I know I'm late to the party, but Mana is definitely my favorite Protoss player right now just after these last 2 games. His control is ridiculous, his decision making is incredible and his English is really good it makes incredible to understand his thinking process.
Those were 2 sick games and I have seen a lot Ps lost to Ts with the same unit compositions. He got AoE units right at the right time, he splits up his DTs and made Tarson use up close to 8 scans, just an incredible understanding of the matchup. At so many points did I think Mana had lost and somehow he ends up winning 2-0. Incredible.
|
Tarson with a huge mistake of letting mana get 4 storms off on a non stimmed army walking through them T.T, oh well. I think kas's current form is a bit better than mana's atm(even though at their peaks they are prob dead even in skill), should be an awesome finals!
|
Manas PvT usually is like almost Code S level. Seriously a beast in that matchup.

Hey TB, I apologize for the lag on my side (casting for Playhem). i7-2630QM Nvidia GEFORCE GTX 560m 3GB 16GB Memory
Only programs were skype and SC2 running. I don't know what else could really be bottlenecking it. I lowered all my settings to the lowest possible. My internet speed here is 5d/2u, but I am forced to be on wireless on the opposite side of the modem/router.

Tarson always had bad micro in TvP. In NaNi's stream today it seemed so impossible for him to hit a storm in PvT against KRTerran.

Kas's macro is probably the best out of foreigners, and his unit timings are spot on, I think he overcommitted with the amount of scvs he pulled but I can't see him getting rolled in the next engagement for it.
|
Kas is so passive... Expecting a dull series to be honest; both players are really predictable in their macro play, and this will likely end in massive armies vs massive armies. :/
Here we go, Passivity 1:0 Kas. Max earlier than the Protoss, yet sits around doing nothing waiting for the Protoss to bank resources and get mass production facilities. Does not even get PF to fall back on with his own banked resources, etc. Just wrong play.

He always opens with Colossi first with later Council, which makes him weak against drop play if the third is too far from his main and natural (as seen in game 2). Happily he's playing Kas, who doesn't exploit this weakness.
Kas has indeed excellent macro, but alas I fear he'll waste it again by being inactive on the map. You have to try to deny the Protoss' third, especially against MaNa's build. At one point or another, he will likely be spread too thinly (because he has to defend drops, etc.) and you will outnumber him in one of the areas.

Happily he's playing Kas, who doesn't exploit this weakness. It's not outdated, most protoss players play double forge just because it's way easier and requires less micro and timing knowledge. Colossi openings into storm is by far the safest and allows a protoss to transition into late game with a very good army composition from the start. Shakuras is a bad map for that since protoss expansions are very far and it's easy to exploit it with drop play, but on other maps it's absolutely scary to play against that.

I'm just glad Mana made it to the finals. Hopefully he can actually take a first place finish here.. he seems to take so many second place finishes.

Kas has this easily, 3rd and 13 scv lead with medivacs, MaNa has jack for tech and can't even warp in more sentries.
Interesting fact: MaNa and Kas are 21-19 before this series with Kas ahead.

Because he just killed whole Kas' army and Kas had almost no army to defend with. If Mana expanded he would have been behind since Kas' 3rd was up way faster.

I can understand poking, but he sent 2 waves in and lost tons of units. He could have even double expanded, he'd already cleared the rocks at the gold.

Same here, and I managed to get so far without (too many) spoilers.
Is there a chance of watching VODs from this? Update in OP would be greatly appreciated, as I don;t think I can manage to sort through 4 pages again without catching any spoilers.

When Tarson will be play with Nerchio?

Many thanks to Twitch.tv for offering a choice of english language casts. It would be nice if more competitions were able to offer people a choice of casting (and observing), although it's not always practical

Just came back from christmas stuff and I'm so happy to hear this! He has mentioned before that he thought Korea was THE place to train for sc2, but I hadnt heard any plans from him yet, so this is awesome news. He obviously has the work ethic, and solid foundations+good mindset about the game. Korean ladder+customs can really help him iron out his (imo) smaller flaws in his style, ie. to passive sometimes and (sometimes) lackluster control.
Kas seem to have found his beastmode form back this last month, he was kinda quiet for a while, but it seems he regained form! I love Kas :D
Edit: Oh and I'm typing this from my brand new Zowie Celeritas! Hah so happy x] lol

Kas has been tearing it up lately. Gg

Yay, well done Kas

Great win by Kas, he's a beast!

VoDs are a bit behind because my editor has broken internet right now, but the uncut stuff is on the Twitch channel if you want to watch.
