It is big in UK/London but not anywhere else im afraid in EU :< Quite sad actually because its an amazing game and the community is just so fun. Best part about the fighting community imo is that the players commentate all the time at big events when they get knocked out. Just imagine IdrA commentating MLG after he got knocked out.

Diego Umejuarez? He's in Mexico! But really no americans or japanese players came to dreamhack this year, the japanese usually come to a few european events like Stunfest, Super VS Battle and the odd Bushido. Infiltration got top 8 at evo the year before last and went really deep this year too, Ryan Hart has traditionally been a Tekken player (winning everything at one time or another) he's also a sick SF3:3rd Strike and SF4 AE player who got to like winners semi finals at Canada Cup a few weeks ago against the best from america and japan.

Vortex is just once Akuma gets a knockdown he starts the vortex, which is basically that whenever Yun is knocked down he has to guess which side to block. A lot of Akumas offense comes from his vortex.

You just lack the education to apreciate those games (like 90% of the SC community sadly). If you think SF or CS are not strategy based, you are dead wrong

We didn't have the whole "Arcade Hall" thing going on when we grew up and it never made it in our culture really.

this. the only problem is this SF tourney only has like 3 good players so it was quite predictable, but SF and quake are SUPER strategy based and ultimately build up into epicness

I've never heard of any fighting game tournies in the UK. I thought UK was mostly FPS and RTS games.
