Hey guys. Lately I've been making more and more blank templates for quick and easy use in Live Report threads. A wise poster once prescribed a number one rule. Don't panic. Let's take some of that advice and apply it to the SC2 tournament forum!
This is a resource to store formats, templates, banners and any other tool for a Live Report thread. In so many words: Just like the Brood War Tournament Forum has.
At this point I'm going to steal whatever I can from Dropbear and reorient it to SC2. Credit goes to him for most of the thread.
No Live Report Thread and it's about to start? No problem. Follow these simple steps and even you can be MrCon.
1. Don't panic. 2. Go to SC2 Tourneys forum and select create new topic (it's at the top). 3. Browse through this thread and select the items you require. Remember that a banner and results/recommended games sections are the bare minimum for a decent LR. 4. Copy the coding that corresponds to the images you need. Paste them into your new live-report thread! 5. Please credit the people responsible for the items you use. They worked hard to make them! 6. Don't forget to use bolding, centering, spoilers and to TLPDise (the little red hydralisk button). NOTE ON TLPD! + Show Spoiler +
Underneath the calendar on the right hand side of TL is a section headed TLPD. The dropdown menu is automatically set to BW (Korea). Changing this to SC2 (International)/ SC2 (Korea) BEFORE you do your TLPDising should eliminate problems with bw profiles for sc2 players. Alternatively you can just change tlpd#players#135#Z Z to their current race and add #sc2-international or #sc2-korea as a hotfix.
7. Once you finish your beautifully crafted thread, open a new tab of the Tournament Forum and hit refresh. Is there already a thread for the tournament? Does it reach at least the minimum expectations? If not, then go ahead and post! If so, then you are yet another unsung hero lost in the midst of thousands of posts. Don't worry, I still love you. 8. Update the thread as the match progresses with results etc. 9. OPTIONAL: In the OP, include a section bookmarking the start of each game in the thread. (Thanks to Jubinell for the idea and CoffeeJelly for testing) 10. OPTIONAL: Check Featured News or the Starcraft 2 forum for articles and threads relevant to the tournament. A article by TL Writers can be the sprinkles on a sundae or the shot of chambord in a martini. In other words: TL Hype is classy. If available then don't neglect it!
Once you get the hang of it you'll see it's easier than staying awake. Just like a LR thread this will be a work in progress ^_^ Please post any feedback, inclusions; exclusions or anything else that fits the theme of the thread. This will only be as useful as the contributions posted in it!

The groups will be played out in a ‘Dual Tournament’ format, a system that Starcraft 1 fans will be familiar with
The 4 players of each group are split into two pairs and play each other.
The winners of these matches will then face each other in the ‘Winner’s match’. The victor advances to the playoffs (Round of 16)
The losers of the initial matches face each other in the ‘Loser’s match’. The loser will be out and will have to go through the Up&Down matches after the tournament, to determine if he can stay in Code S.
The loser of the Winner’s match and the winner of the Loser’s match will face each other. The winner advances to the playoffs. The loser is out but stays in Code S.
After the group stage is over, 16 players remain. Players who finished first in their group will be paired against players who finished second in a different group.
The rest of Code S is played out in a regular single elimination tournament mode
Ro16 is Best of 3. Ro8 and Semifinals are Best of 5. Finals are Best of 7.
Up & Down Match Format Change - Code A Winner will automatically advance to Code S without going through Up & Down Match - MLG Winner will receive a GSL Code S seed for the following month. (Even if the winner is a Korean player, the seed will be provided). If the winner turns down the Code S seed or is already a Code S player then the runner-up will be given the seed. - Code S 4th Place Players (8) + Code A Top 7 = 15 players - Players will be divided into 3 groups of 5. - One group per day will be broadcasted. Each group’s 1st and 2nd Place will advance to Code S.
A total of 12 teams will compete in a spectacular Team League. The GSTL now runs for 3 months as a regular full league. Which team will claim the title of the best SC II team in the world in Season 1?
Teams that will be participating in this exciting GSTL will be: SlayerS, MVP, IM, oGs, Prime, TSL, fOu, ZeNEX, StarTale, NS_Hoseo, FXOpen and F.United. The pennant race will be Bo7, and the play-offs and the final will be Bo9.
GSTL will be broadcasted twice a week on Thursday and Friday 12 teams will be participating. The league will be divided into two groups Groups that play on Thursdays will be in the Jupiter league and groups that play on Fridays will be in the Venus league. *In Korea, Thursday is called the day of Jupiter and Friday is called the day of Venus. The Jupiter League includes: SlayerS, TSL, oGs, MVP, PRIME, F.United The Venus League includes: IM, StarTale, fOu, Zenex, NS, FXOpen e-Sports Each team will play every team of its group once, this process will take 10 weeks. This group stage will be called the “Pennant Race” Once the Pennant Race is over, the top 3 teams from each group will advance to the Play-offs Ranking will be decided using the following factors in order: Number of Wins -> Number of Set Losses -> If two teams have same number of wins and set losses, the winner of the two from the pennant race match will receive a higher ranking -> Number of Warnings Received The Pennant Race will be best Bo7, Play-offs and finals Bo9. “King of the hill”-type format. The Play-offs will be played out as follows:
Bracket match pairing for palyoffs (A1 = winner of group A. B2 = 2. place of group B.) A1 vs D2 and D1 vs A2 B1 vs E2 and E1 vs B2 C1 vs F2 and F1 vs C2 G1 vs H2 and H1 vs G2
GUIDE TO LIVE REPORT PLAY BY PLAY The two most basic principles of a live report of a match are game time stamps and a unbroken chain of quotes from the start to gg. Time stamps allow the reader to know when something happened. Quoting yourself makes a chain of events that turns into a coherent flow of the actions that made up the game.
You are welcome to live report however you wish. The Guide below is easy to learn from and teaches how to improve the quality of the live report.
What is LR-ing? LR stands for Live Report. This is the act of describing an SC2 match in real time by posting about the details of the match in the Match Thread. You can think of it like commentating through posting. LR does not mean forum QQ, whining or balance posting. LR is primarily for informational purposes.
MoonBear's definitive guide on the profits and perils of Live Reporting explains what, why and how both succiently and with accuracy. An excellent how to guide of Live Reporting.
When you are finished with your live report, be sure to click the # button on the last post in your chain and pm that page to the person that opened the thread so it can be added to the OP.
More will be added when creators give permission. If you have something to add but did not create it, please seek permission first.
Bracket match pairing for palyoffs (A1 = winner of group A. B2 = 2. place of group B.) A1 vs D2 and D1 vs A2 B1 vs E2 and E1 vs B2 C1 vs F2 and F1 vs C2 G1 vs H2 and H1 vs G2
I would love to add something for HomestoryCup, but that´s so rare that a designed LR thread just don´t work.
Added sources where I saw them first, hope I´m right.
Banner/Section header maker (free, no reg)http://www.bannercreator.nu/banner-maker.html Very simple one, you will never be able to do something like HawaiianPig, but better than nothing if you want to make your post nicer over the time.
I think one of the most important parts is to link to Liquipedia. Results are always more up to date than the homepages from the event. Everything with an easy readable layout etc. For me a must
Perhaps a good possibility to say that the GSL/GSTL headers where always a bit to long imo. The text and additional infos, not the picture! Perhaps just show it at the beginning of a season and then spoiler everything? But that´s just my opinion
Ok, there seems to be a limit for pictures. I could split up everything to several posts. So OP just do what you want, I´m sure now that I didn´t make a mistake
Note: I took roughly 2000elo as a border, sometimes more sometimes less. Depending if I know the player from tourney. Everthing was International Elo, Korean Teams will be underrepresented
Wow.... You are amazingly amazing!! If this isn't already stickied, make it happen!!
On another note, to all the LR crew, especially Probe1, MrCon, and Hawaiian Pig. You guys make my day with your dedication, enthusiasm and awesomeness!!!

Things went off-centre by accident, but I'd much rather have this order in which items appear in the OP.
I support this, the matches are more important than prizepool imo. If you are interested scroll down. This might be different by some 2day lans (everything about the money, you know), but after a month of GSTL these things don´t have to be at the top imo.
And pleeeease everybody take a look at the post above with team/player pictures. I don´t find my fault, it´s depressing...

Not if I want to edit it. Everything looks fine untill I hit "preview". Perhaps there´s a limit of [img] someone can post in one post? I swear all [img: is [img] in the original post!
But thanks garlicface, everything is better than me sitting on the couch and running wild
i have also never like the gsl/gstl OP's and think they have way too much superfluous information. i'm looking at today's and i'm scrolling past:
- banner (fine) - various liquipedia links (not needed) - telling us format/prizepool (not needed) - current standings (not needed) - lineups/results duplicated (duplication not needed as it's winners league, we can kind of guess one from the other) - recommended games (again, by set and overall not needed, just make fake polls)
less is more. they're unwieldy. the only thing i want to read in them is the results.
I think i would trade one of my children (if i had any) for this thread finally won't have people running around screaming WHERE IS THE THREAD FOR DAY 2!?
Hm, is a bracket maker usefull? I thought sometimes "ahh, if I had a free, non registration bracket maker...." Just single elim, but seeding, name and score easy to enter. A free double elim bracket maker that I found I was not able to enter names (perhaps just me)
Step by Step: What have to be in, what should etc + Show Spoiler +
Pictures are always an eye catcher, this post don´t have much. If you think about making a LR thread you have to read through
The list is no general rule how it should be posted. Things like matches might be better very close to the top of the thread. Change it the way you like. If it´s wrong some people give very fast feedback.
TL has many good tools to make your thread better, important ones like Liquipedia and TLPD should never miss. Many people work for these things and you will find most informations you need in these!
BB codes don´t have space inside the brackets [ ], everything posted below is with space so delete the space if you put it inside your post
Thread Title
Go with the title shown right at the Calender, simple. No confusion, no need to think about something catchy. Add Day 1/2 etc if it´s a event that is played over several days or Group A/B, Playoff if it´s planed like this. Use [ ] for easy recognization like [GSL] [MLG]
Banner
The Banner is an important part. They mosten times contain Sponsors, the name of Tournament and are a nice introduction to your thread. Sometimes dates, players and other minor informations are in them. So they can also generate a bit hype. Banners can be found here Examples: + Show Spoiler +
If you don´t have banners already in the forum, search in google. Most times you will find nice banners on official sites too.
Date/Time
Very important information. Write the time or date in your timezone and use the [time][/ time] or [date][/ date] BB codes around it. This will show it in the readers timezone if he selected his timezone in his profile. (Be aware that at least on the second page the first one will ask "when does it start"?)
Streams
Most times streams are easily available through the stream list. If you have additional infos (like casters) or streams that are not on the TL list add them here.
Schedule
Does the Tourney have a planed schedule? If yes add it to your OP, keep updated if there are delays. Many don´t have the time to watch the whole time and can plan accordingly. Make a picture and post it if possible or just link it. Example: + Show Spoiler +
With many sections adding Headers will make it much more easy to read. You can get amazing looking one from BW forum, the Second post in here or create your owns on free sites like here
Lines for sections
For small sections headers might be too much, if so you can simple add [ hr] before/after the section it will make a line across the post
Center your post
You can center everything by adding [center] at the beginning and [ /center] at the end. Of course you can add the tags for every section on it´s own. This will make your post much more pleasing to watch.
Colors, Bolding, Underlining...
Use [red][ /red], [green][ /green], [blue][ /blue] and the codes on top of post box to show important parts. This will help the readers to get usefull informtions.
Lists
Have many minor infos? Making a [ list] [ /list] of them will make it more attractive than a block of text. Add [ *] before each line.
Spoilers
Not only they make everything more easy to read, they also + Show Spoiler +
make people curious
Matches
Possibilities
Some important matches If there are only a few (and perhaps scheduled) matches add the pictures and names from TLPD. If there is a schedule add the times. Example + Show Spoiler +
Big bracket Nobody expects you to add every match. Link to the Bracket, if available add a picture of the bracket perhaps in spoilers. Example: + Show Spoiler +
Results
Very important! Include either a Result Section or make it part of the Matches Section, but spoiler it! Keep it updated! Most people come in the thread after some time and want a quick overview. If possible add the maps they played and make the winner bold for every map. Example:+ Show Spoiler +
Like above, for important/broadcasted games make a poll "Add Poll". Post the poll after the game finished and add it to your section. If it´s a BoX perhaps quote your fist poll for the first game and add the second poll so people who didn´t see the first one can vote now. Please stick to "Yes/No/If you have time", other options might already spoiler the result like "Lol, Terran/NO!!/No" Example:+ Show Spoiler +
Several people often livereport the games like Drazerk, Probe1 and others occasionally. This is the basic intention of LR threads and a great help for people that are not able to watch the games live due to work or bad internet. Please consider adding the updated posts to your OP. A guide to LR can be found here. Updated final posts look like THIS Example: + Show Spoiler +

Additional Infos
Have infos like Price Pool, Map Pool, the format (Round Robin/BoX/...)? Add them, might not be as important but these infos are often times interesting and people don´t have to ask as much in the thread.
Links, Coverage, etc
Many websites have (very good) coverage of big Tourneys. Fragster and Readmore are often present at the event, make Interviews and other stuff. Adding a section where you post these links is a good thing toi have. Especially if they contact you and ask if you might add them.
Many things might be missing, create the thread the way you like it. Nobody else will spend as much time at the OP as you If you need food for thought just look at other LR Threads open like GSL threads Don´t forget to update Tournament Section before posting, someone else might have done a thread already.
Adding something like Liquipedia for results and informations is always important.
If you take banners/section headers/... from people please write it somewhere in a short line, that way you thank them for their work!
If you find mistakes, something to add/delete please tell me. This post can ofc be posted at the beginning of the thread if people think it´s helpfull.
If this thread becomes a sticky it might be good if the standart OP maker like MrCon, Asha or Probe1 who cover every [GSL] Day write in here if they are not able to make the OP. This way other can jump in and make the work without making an OP and notice too late that already one is done.
