Format/Rules Swiss Style with Top 8 Elimination Bracket. ● There is no elimination in a Swiss format. There will be 4 rounds of Bo3. Each round you will be paired with an opponent and given a predetermined map to start. After the first round, the loser will pick the next map (No map may be played twice in a match) and so on until the Bo3 is over. After the four rounds of Bo3 the top 8 players (subject to change based on attendance) will then move on to the bracketed elimination finals. The quarter finals, and semifinals will be played in a Bo3 format. The finals for the tournament will be a Bo5. ● Tardy rule: Since we are running a Swiss tournament, we cannot start a new round until all of the players have finished the current round. Any player who is more than 10 minutes late to a round will receive a forfeit loss for that round. ● Observers: Because no one is eliminated during the Swiss portion of the tournament participants are not allowed to spectate other matches. During the elimination bracket spectating is fine but cheating of any kind will result in disqualification. ● Reporting Results: All tournament players are required to report their result. Failure to report a result may end up in a forfeit for that round. ● Technical Difficulties: Any drop occurring before the 5 minute mark will result in a rematch using the same map. Any other drop will be reviewed by the tournament coordinator.

Please put Swiss GPO in any emails! Also, this tournament will be the foundation for future tournaments. Basically, if we have a great turnout for this event, our future events will be bigger. ONE more thing. We originally planned on not allowing Grand Masters level players to participate but later decided it would but alright but please realize that this is just a small tournament with the goal of having a good time, none of us are all that great we just Love the game and enjoying getting together with others to compete and have a great time!

I would be interested in another tournament. Loved the last one in Provo. Jorbear.740 (I think it is 740...)

$13 is too much imo, I'll probably not be able to attend.

@Jorbear - What Race/League are you?
@LooKe - Yeah the $13 is the cost of playing for 5 hours there. We were going to rent it out for the tournament but were not sure how big of a turn out we could get. If we get a big one, or even a reasonably sized group, we will definitely rent it out for future events.
@Dalguno - Yes any age and any skill level though GamerzFunk requires a Parental Release Form if you are under the age of 17. So just fill that out and bring it the day of or one can be filled out there as well.

I was just thinking about it, but is it $13 even if it ends up going more then 5 hours?
[EDIT] Oh, just realized it's a Monday, I'll be in school. Keep us posted though, I'll try my best to make it next time!

Less than 5 minutes from my house and I've got the day off. How could I not? =D

I will be attending. League: Plat Race: Protoss Battle.net ID: cOnAvenger.969

@Looke the 5 hours is game time so if you log off the computer it won't be using your GamerzFunk game time and therefor will last longer. When my friends and I first went to GamerzFunk we paid for I think four or five hours and were able to be there for about 6 just because we would take breaks and get drinks, food, etc.
Should be updated for everyone so far. Really getting excited for this. Let all your friends know too. We have people from every league so they won't be alone no matter what their skill level may be. We want this to be a fun competitive event for everyone!
|
Freak so close to home, but I have work .....
I'll check out the tail end of it at least though
|
@happyness Sorry about that We originally planned to do this just with our friends and we all have Monday off because we work together but then we wanted to open it to the Starcraft community. This first event is a test and if it goes well we will do more and on a weekend or some other day that is better for the community as a whole but thanks for the support! :D

That's it! We are all full up! The Gamerz Funk only has 18 computers at their current facility (they are moving to a larger one) and we have 20 signed up. We are so excited for this tournament and everyone participating in it! Please be at The Gamerz Funk on Monday by 11 to check in! If you have any questions don't hesitate to PM me.
|
Darn. Well I looked through the OP and couldn't find anything about just coming to watch, other than the bit about spectating games. (Not sure if it's quite the same thing...) If I came would I be able to see the games played?
|
You better believe you can come and watch! The more the better! We just need to cut off the competition at some point or we would never get through the rounds having to wait on computers etc. But please! If you want to come out and watch some Starcraft, get to know new people, and just enjoy a day of gaming in Salt Lake come out!!!
|
I will be in bunny slippers if you don't know who to talk to for information. Pandacraze (Eric Saupe) is the main guy but if you cant find him, find me! -Jukijuice (Matt)
|
............Well Dangit!!... yeah $13 is a bit much for me at this point in time lol... maybe next time. sorry for such a short warning, but any other tournaments in the area definitely let me know, i'll even give you my number haha
|
Big thanks to all those that came out and played! It was so much fun! Because the turnout was not quite as big as we had hoped ~13, we made it double elimination. It was great! EViLPrO came in first beating out BananaHands in a Bo5 and Jukijuice took third place! Thanks again to The GamerzFunk and all those that participated! It was so much fun and well definitely do it again.
|
This was okay. They didn't end up doing swiss (with a lame excuse about number of people), so I don't know if I'll go again, but it was alright- on par with other Utah tourneys. Gamerz Funk is a pretty cool place too.
