I am a huge fan of him but that was absolutly the wrong decision making - I practiced this kind of rush against my brother once - the exact same situation and he did not pull probes mindlessly and he did cancel the hatchery. Sure it is not optimal as a start but you are far from lost...
He wasn't playing against MC.
