We will be moderating harshly in this thread. Think twice before you post. Things we are watching for: image macros, balance whining, "eagles", player bashing etc. We encourage civil and reasoned critique of our moderation - please post it in the website feedback forum.

Please don't complain about MLG stream quality or MLG itself. They work very hard to provide you with an enjoyable service.

Enough with the racism discussions, this is a LR Thread. Cut it out.

That's why the most popular tournament in SC2 is the GSL?

Most popular with Koreans, before SC2 and the western tournaments Starcraft was a tiny niche in the West. Just look at TL, it went from a tiny community where everyone knew everyone else to a destination on the internet. The west got into SC2 because of western players and tournaments.

the West got into SC2 because it's the sequel to SC1

The western scene exploded because western players finally had a chance in competition. When that changes the scene will die.
That's how I roll!

No Code S for anyone in this MLG. We've repeated this so many times.

Top 3 NON-KOREANS will get a Code A spot.

No.
TOP 3 WILL GOT A CODE A SPOT, UNLESS THEY'RE ALREADY IN CODE A (or S)
This has nothing to do with nationality.

koreans dont get code a spot
why the fuck do people keep coming with false info

What? Are you implying games aren't worth watching just because of the players' nationality? They aren't "random Koreans" either. So stupid....

Don't reply to these comments.. people watch games for different reasons. I do because I love starcraft, which means I'll be happy to watch koreans at the top if they are truly the best. Other people watch for the hype, and they feel more excited when their homies play. I understand the feelings of many people, although I feel that shouldn't make them miss quality starcraft games.

There is no shortage of quality games, what makes MLG and other tournaments special to me is cheering for personalities I know. Just having random amazing players, that don't speak the language, that are not involved in the western scene (don't stream, don't go on shows, don't contribute) I just don't care about their results.

A korean wins, which one? I certainly don't care, in fact, koreans will take home all the big money, because they are top 3.

MLG have done an amazing job. So much so, that I have enough faith to already buy tickets to the next 2 events. Even an act of god didn't stop them.

Now for the bombshell.
I don't like the fact that Koreans have come through and taken *all* (top 3) the money. Yes, they provided the "best" play, and are incredibly solid/strong/gosu, however to have "The greater race" fly in for 3 days, walk away with $12,000, and leave isn't good for the foreigner scene.
As is obvious, we have a pretty amazing audience now-days, but I don't believe we're giving the best foreigners the best chance at making this game viable. And if the best can't win an event like this, what is left for those at the brink of deciding whether or not they're going to dedicate their time/money/life to gaming, or to a 9-5 job.

Just like I buy the items with the "Made in Australia" tag over those made in China, I feel we should support the NA scene more than we did at MLG Columbus. Either that, or make it equally viable for foreigners to go to Korea, as it is for Korea to come to NA
(3 days for $5k, opposed to 1 month for $1500 in code A)

Sincearly,
Concerned fan.

QUOTED FOR TRUTH!

This should be on the front page of TL. If Koreans come into the western tournaments and take all the money then the western scene is dead. Players like Naniwa and Thorzain could not afford to attend these tournaments if they had not won previous ones. In the future those types of players simply won't show up, because it will be a given that the Koreans will win.

Don't invite the best in the world because we are to bad to compete with them?

Players like Naniwa have said that they WANT to compete against the BEST otherwise it is not a true "competition".. The more integrated the western and Korean scene becomes is BETTER for esports as a whole. BW died out everywhere except in Korea - having Koreans fly in for foreigner tournaments works against that same outcome.

Anyway; i really want MMA to take this!!! Even if he loses though then we get MMA vs MC?

Besides, a big part of the reason people that don't follow the GSL don't like watching "GSL games" is, surprise surprise, because they don't watch the GSL, and therefore don't know their players. If they start coming to western events, it would be easier to follow their players and root for them, unless you feel you can only root for people from your country, which doesn' t seem to be true, seeing how so many people like some europeans.

The more that foreigners play koreans, the better the foreigners will get. If SC2 interest is sustained in the west, there will be interest in this exchange, and as consumers will have a better product.

This is an exciting time for E-sports.

MLG is honored to announce a true game-changer for the world of competitive StarCraft 2. Beginning at MLG Columbus and continuing throughout the 2011 Season, Major League Gaming and the GOMTV Global StarCraft 2 League are establishing a League Exchange Program that will send the best MLG players to compete in the GSL, and allow top Korean talent to play live in the US.

Pro Circuit Players Competing in the GSL

- At MLG Columbus, the Top 3 non-Korean finishers will each be placed into GSL Code A.
- At every 2011 Pro Circuit Live Competition after MLG Columbus, GSL placement will occur as follows:
- Code S status will be awarded to the highest placing player, regardless of country of origin, who does not already have Code S status.
- Code A status will be awarded to the next three highest placing non-Korean players.
- If Code S status is awarded to a Korean player, Code A status also will be awarded to the 4th highest placing non-Korean player.
- All travel and accomodation expenses for these players will be provided by the GSL.

GSL Pro Players Competing on the MLG Pro Circuit

- MLG will invite four Korean pro players to each Pro Circuit Live Competition.
- These players will be placed directly into the Championship Pools, one into each Pool.
- Their placement in the Pools will be determined by their GSL rank.
- All travel and accomodation expenses for these players will be provided by MLG.
- For MLG Columbus, we will also be inviting a player from the CSN tournament, currently in progress. This player will be seeded into the Open Bracket, and their travel and accomodation expenses will be covered by CSN.

This historic partnership marks the first time the GSL has ever qualified a player directly into Code S based on results from another tournament, and MLG Columbus will be the first time Korean players have ever competed live in an open-registration StarCraft 2 tournament in the US. We are working closely with the GSL to coordinate schedules so that all players involved will be able to compete in both the GSL and the Pro Circuit.

I'm getting pretty depressed by this attitude.

Last I checked we were trying to call this an e-SPORT, as in a competition. If we're going to not have the best players... why bother trying to call it a sport? It's been raging for ages with people saying that the Koreans really aren't the best.

Well, 6 of them came to MLG, 3 of them made top 3, two of the others were knocked out by one of those 3....

They're better. Why should worse players win lots of money? Because you like them more for playing worse?
I'm not bad at Starcraft; I just think winning's rude.

winner of MLG will get code S for next gsl. since losira and MC already have it, it's prolly going to go to MMA

That code S seed doesn't apply for MLG Colombus.
