Prize Pool: 1st Place: $300 2nd Place: $150 3rd Place: $35 4th Place: $15
Hello Starcraft Community!
The "Why We Game" Open is a tournament featuring a large prize pool of $500!
This tournament is a part of a high school project that two seniors from California are creating to help the E-Sports community. After almost 50 hours of tutoring sessions, these two high school seniors have raised almost half a thousand dollars that will all be going towards the large prize pool of the WWG Open. In the hopes of attracting all sorts of players, this Open offers a large prize pool in order to give many players the feeling of playing that "big game". With money on the line, we hope to see a dazzling display of skill across all of the games. The tournament will take place on Friday, May 27th starting at 4:00 P.M Pacific Standard Time. Seeing as this tournament will take place in only one day, its important to have backups. Feel free to sign up even if all the spots have been filled. All games will be a BO1 until Round 5 and 6 which will be a BO3 and BO5 respectively.
In the BO3 and BO5 matches, the first match will be played on the designated map. After each game, the loser chooses the next map from the map pool of GSL Crevasse, Metalopolis, MLG Shakuras Plateau, GSL Terminus RE, Xel'Naga Caverns, and GSL Tal'Darim Altar. A map can only be chosen once in each BO3 or BO5 series.
To determine 3rd and 4th place, a separate match will take place after the Grand Finals between the two losers of Round 5.
Transfer of Payments will be done through PayPal at the end of the tournament.
Games will be casted and important VOD's will be uploaded to TL after the tournament.
On a side note, this tournament is only part of the project. These two seniors are also doing a YouTube series that discusses their past gaming experiences and the pros and cons of being a "gamer". The "Why We Game" series is a great way for us to expand on our experiences with gaming and really flesh out the feelings we've had towards the whole scene since we started gaming at the early age of 6.
You can check out the series here at

Thanks for all the support and we hope to see you soon!

Looks cool i signed up :D
|
signed up looks great, however, with such a large prize pool and relatively small tournament (only 64 players) i strongly advise making all rounds at MINIMUM bo3 and the semis bo5, and finals bo7.

Where in cali you guys from?

We're from the Bay Area. Like an hour south of San Francisco.

EDIT!
WE HAVE INCREASED THE SIZE OF THE TOURNAMENT TO 128 It is our hope that with the remaining days before the tournament, we can get a bit more attention for the tournament to field all 128 players with backups. Remember, the tournament will start at 4 PST Friday the 28th and will last until a winner is found.
Happy Gaming!

I lived in Antioch for 8 years heh. Nice choice of living. Signed up for the tourney, should be fun! :D
|
Looks good ill be playing in the tournament.
|
|
You guys should expand the bracket to 256 because of the waitlist.
|
Big list! Seriously expand the bracket size, and thank you for bringing a lot to the e-Sports table!
|
nice prize for an open tournament, good luck guys
|
Wow, such a big list.. this looks like loads of fun.. I wish I could sign up, but I won't be able to play until later tonight. If streamed, I will watch! :D
|
RE-EDIT! WE HAVE INCREASED THE SIZE OF THE TOURNAMENT TO 256. We have gained so much attention for the tournament over the past couple of days that we feel comfortable hosting a larger tournament while still having enough players to serve as backups. This means that timing will be very important so make sure when you come to the tournament you're ready to play until its over.
And those wondering about a stream can always check z33k.com on the front page for Relentless Heroes streaming the tournament, as well as on TL under the Relentless Heroes channel. http://www.teamliquid.net/video/streams/Relentless Heroes

I'd guess it's PST because that is the timezone he used in the OP.

Sorry for late post, yes it is 4 PST.

This deserves more viewers. Hopefully Thorzain can take it.

Did MajOr change his name again or it is an EU acc just for play @ the tournament?
|
Siiiick games, exceptional terrrans

Judging from the pre-game chat and post-game chat, the reports that Kitty/Major/Terran/Memory really is an annoying little kid are all too true. Shame cause he seems like such a great player.

Meh, Thorzain's weak in TvT. No biggie here. Still surprised Artosis hasn't taught NoName some manners.

Prodded Thorzain in a sarcastic manner after the score was 2-0 by asking Thorzain to teach him how to micro (Thorzain was already clearly quite annoyed at this point, more or less ignoring him and just asking for the game to start). After the game Thorzain said he wants to forfeit the 3rd place match because he's tired and Memory said something along the lines of "you have no reason to complain, I'm playing through heavy lag and I still completely outplayed you." Then started prodding him about micro again (but Thorzain had already left at that point).
It's not quite Idra levels of BM but everything he says is just in an extremely bratty manner meant to annoy the crap out of whoever he's playing.

? i was actually serious about teaching me to micro tvp i wasnt trolling and i told him i wasnt trolling is it really that bad to ask someone who can micro tvp to teach me how to micro tvp?

Right before you're about to play a game in a series you're up 2-0 is probably the worst time to ask that. You couldn't honestly think that Thorzain would take that in a good way (and it was obvious he didn't and was very annoyed). You want TvP help, you message him after the series saying good games and then asking for help. Asking when you're crushing him in a series can't be taken any other way than sarcastic mocking.
You play a great game and I was impressed with how you managed to seize the lead when he had forced you to cancel your third twice, but the childish things you do really dampens your reputation. A foreign player with your skill should have a huge fanbase but you really turn people off you from the way you act.

I hope everybody who watched enjoyed our stream with Why We Game. They are bringing e-sports helping to bring e-sports to another level, and we are glad we could help!

Are the sixjaxMajOr vs. mouzThorZaIN replays going to be uploaded?
Also, what happened during the finals and why does it say it was a bye? I distinctly remember some of the games being played. o.o

Those games and more of the interesting matches will all be uploaded in due time. I'll start searching through the VOD's tomorrow and get a nice number of matches uploaded here (of course the finals and thorzain will all be there).
There wasn't a bye, but some players didn't report how the matches were finished so I just manually updated them to show people who the winner was. Replays for the matches that weren't reported will also be uploaded at some point.
