That's the amount for Open Season winnings and the Super Tournament, though. Consider that winning an MLG puts them in the running for the National Championship, which awards $50k to the winner. That's about as much as the winner gets (give or take) for the regular season tourneys.

I knew, as well as others, that something was fishy about Koreans flying over to MLG at their own expense. It's not at their own expense. Figures!

While this is pretty cool, would be a lot better if you paid for the top player in each pro-house to attend MLG. Regardless though, I applaud the effort and can't wait to see whoever qualifies get destroyed by the foreigners in Columbus!

Only one winner? =( It's still awesome but it would be cool with more Korean's than that. Maybe not more than four though, considering the MLG format.

You are misinformed.
GSL gives you a little less than 50k USD now, while taking a month to compete in... that is not including having to qualify for code a, getting into the up down, then getting into code s and winning.
While the other tournaments are weekend long events with just straight up tournament formats.
I think your confusing sponsors not paying for the plane tickets/hotels and having prior GSL commitments with them not wanting to participate.

No, you are misinformed.
MLG takes place during the GSL Super Tournament, which is the same thing as the Open Seasons in terms of format and the prize money.

Who's to say other Koreans won't find other methods of going to MLG? Hey it's a possibility

From what I read, one player from each "House" is getting an all expense paid trip courtesy of CSN/MLG to MLG Columbus, 8 in total. The houses are: StarTale (July), IM (Junwi), SlayerS, HoSeo, ZeNEX, MVP, TSL, and Prime (unfortunately, no fOu or oGs). The players are selected based on the KoTH tournament results that CSN has been running.

Not exactly right. The way it's working is, there's one winner from each house. Those winners fight against one another in a Bracket style format, eventually determining which 1 of those 8 will win the all-expenses paid trip to MLG.

If only a few dozen Koreans could come, we'd be able to settle the skill-gap debate for good.

No, one player from each team competes in a tourney to decide the one player that goes to MLG

Correct me if I am wrong, but the KoTH's are what qualifies one player from every house to compete in an 8 player tournament. The winner of that tournament is the only one who gets to visit MLG. Sending 8 people would be very expensive so I believe this is what the tournament is set up to do.

its great when organizations can work together like this
GSL + CSN + MLG. Let's grow cyber sport together!! /white-ra

Is there any reason why fOu or oGs are not participating?
|
prolly should add the total prize money at mlg columbus
|
|
This is awesome, I hope most of the good europeans can come to MLG aswell. There have been some europeans on the previous MLGs but alot that weren´t able to go.
|
Hmm, too bad oGs isn't participating... So is it that all 72 players are fighting for _ONE_ slot?
If so, I really hope some players are sent there through their own sponsors or whatever. I wouldnt really consider MLG 'having koreans' if it was just 1. Or even just 4. =/
