If you don't plan on paying your way/your team doesn't plan on paying your way there is absolutely 0% reason to play aside from stopping others from going (which would suck).
WCG USA has 0 support for world finals this time around.
PS: now that I think about it there IS a reason.. they WILL send you to the pan am champ if you win which is usually in mexico.. kinda cool / crack at a fun tourney on someone elses dime.

As a matter of fact, they are going to be in Sao Paulo Brazil this year. We had WCG Qualifiers in El Salvador this year, and we get to send a rep to Brazil for the Panamerican Championship and one representative for the grand Finals in Korea . We only had qualifiers for 2 games so there wasn't much competition budget wise...

"We just tried calling you regarding the WCG USA Grand Final tournament. I just want to clear up some details which I don't think I made clear in my previous emails. As you know you will be required to pay for your own flight, lodging, food, expenses etc, but on-top of that WCG is also requiring that the USA Representative pay a mandatory $1,500 player fee just to enter the tournament. In this past this was covered by WCG USA, but since such drastic budget cuts were made, it is simply no longer possible for that to be waived. This trip is basically going to put you out something like $4,000 when all the necessary expenses are added up."
LOL.

this year wcg seems like such a troll. actually glad im just watching this unfold as opposed to participating at this stage lol. its like they are trying to fund the prize money for the finals as well with all this... i wonder how the world final is going to look this year, especially in comparison with the other SC2 stuff going on.
|
as long as huk/idra play in what they're supposed to I'll be happy.
wcg usa quite fail this year...makes me sad to see. When my playing days are over I want to apply to work for wcg usa.
|
I hate to bump this, but I get the distinct feeling that the USA Finals aren't going to be played? Or there's going to be some last minute or late "Online" finals?
WCG's main SC2 tournament should still be pretty good, and being the selfish SC2 fan I am, I'd really like to see Huk, Idra or at least someone with a USA flag competing.
Which really leads to the question: is it just a matter of convincing EG to spend 10k+ to send/enter Idra, Huk or Axslav? (And, seriously, 1.5k USD to *enter* the finals? What the hell? That means the prize pool is actually from the National Entry fees)
|
usa finals have virtually been cancelled.
|
1.5k to enter... that has to be some kind of sick joke lol
|
omg, even croatia found sponsors for wcg, it would be disaster if US player(s) won't be at wcg :/
|
Haha, what the heck? America, land of the poor. Maybe it's time for an organization who wants a lot of attention at a reasonable prize to step in and take the reigns from the incompetence of the current license-holders?

I thought that Blizzard had something against paying big bucks to enter a tournament? Or do the terms of service not apply to Kespa?
|
WCG USA is not organised by Kespa? None of the other qualifiers have asked for a participation fee.

why would kepsa have anything to do with the US qualifiers for wcg? lol.. they don't have anything to do with korean qualifiers either. ogn just happens to be the korean broadcasting partner.
