Mod Note: Let's leave any discussion about whether there should or should not be female only leagues, out of this thread okay? Its a thread for discussing this actual tournament, thats actually happening. Theres plenty of threads elsewhere if you absolutely have to have that debate (again). - Jinro
After a long break and alot of requests from the girls we have finally managed to organize another cup. I know alot of girls have waited a long time and we will try to have these cups on a more regular basis. With the previous succesful cups and the winners such as Effka, Pikachu and Kellymilkies.. once again i hereby proudly announce the fifth cup esl female sc2.
We want to create a stage for girls to meet one another and compete against each other. Why ? Because its fun and this way we believe its a good contribution to the esports community just adding that female touch. Also we know alot of girls would love to other girls playing this wonderful game.
Time and Date
The tournament will be online on the 24th of April. It will commence at Sunday, Apr 24 6:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00)
How to sign up
You will need to have an account on esl and be female ( duh! ) and have an eu acc or use someone else's eu acc. After you've signed up, you will receive an email with all the information to log onto teamspeak. The instructions will be included in the email and you will have to be logged onto our ts server with a mic to do a voice recognition.
It will be a Bo1 up to the Semi finals from there on the format will change into a Bo3. The tournament will be double elimination and we have spots for 32 participants
If you have any questions/suggestions regarding this cup or the future cups please feel free to msg me on tl or esl page.
Kind regards, Suna/Vampirelady
Please read below if you do not have an EU account
If you can get hold of of a EU account you can and may participate however this event is on eu and of course with the no cross region restriction it iss not possible to play on both servers. In order for NA to be a cup i suggest you contact the admins on www.nationalesl.com and let them organize 1. Or if you know anyone who wants to be an admin and help set up a NA female tournament please contact the admin to apply.
Feels like kinda bias to separate girls from guys. It's not like a sports where u need to use more muscles and stuff but everyone behind the pc = fair and square

I understand that you're always going to have negative feedback but why dont people think firsT?.. we DONT separate anyone.. its just that we wanna give girls a stage to play with each other.. alot of girls thanked us a zillion times because we organised something like this.. just because they met other girls and have found this more fun. Mind you, alot of girls dont know other girls who play and would love to meet them and compete with them. Another point is that guys are overall more competitive and this is just another opportunity to play with others.

Why? Its a good debate, I think that all female gamers should be encouraged to play in the male leagues.

I see what you're doing here and I'm not biting. There's arguments to both sides and no one is 100% right, so it's a sort of pointless debate. Plus there other 4 or whatever threads for this tournament all got dragged down by it. There's been probably 200 pages of debate on it. Want to discuss extended series as well?
But is Linda Liao still playing in these events? Would be cool to see her play, I have not seen her play in a long time now.
She hasnt signed up yet.. the announcement was a bit late too but i could msg her can't guarantee anything tho :D but more importantly is that girls out there know there are events like this and getting more girls to like esports and play in it.
You dont have to be a diamond player we have girls from different leagues, dont worry.. even if its just for the fun u can still compete and hang out with us on teamspeak.

Depends what you mean by broadcasting, If you mean live event for girls gaming.. that is kind of hard as there arent enough girls playing sc2 whereas cs has large female gaming community. So, if it grows out to be a greater scene and it gets more advertisement with all other parties included ofcourse i am sure that wont be a problem. The games of this cup and the future cups will be casted ofcourse.

Korea could run its own women's starleague, whats stopping ESL from tapping the entire world for competitors?

The magic word there is Korea. Korea's sc scene is much broader as you know and female gaming has the recent years been growing rapidly but im afraid female gamers are more casual gamers and tend to play more wii or simple puzzle games rather than rts. However i am sure events like this promotes the games to other females and if we create a stage like this it may grow out to be of substantial event.

This type of tournament is a great way to foster community and to get more people involved in SC2, which is always a great thing imo. Good luck to the girls!
No disrespect but why are girls and guys segregated in eSports, not just in starcraft but almost in every competitive eSport? As if a girl can't have as much talent as a male moving a mouse and keyboard around. I thought segregation was a bad thing, people shouldn't judge skill at a sport or a game based on sex.

No, they aren't segregated, because segregation doesn't just mean "women-only events." that would imply that women vice-versa could not join supposedly "male only" tournaments. Except the 100000 other tournaments that exist AREN'T male-only and all women are perfectly able to join them, it just happens that you don't see it.
Also, the objections of "bias" are just plain stupid. There can't be bias when there's zero opportunity cost to any males, as once again, there are a bajillion other tournaments that us guys can play. This is simply an event to encourage a more "niche" demographic of the SC2 community, much like the High school starcraft leagues.

I am trying really hard to ignore these kind of comments but i am just persistent on trying to convince people like you how simple minded thinking that is. Its not about gender here.. its about promoting esports to the minority within the esports. The ratio is very disproportional.
We are trying give girls a stage were they can shine instead of dissapearing in the mass. Girls can still and will still compete in regular tournaments but this is just an event for girls.
We also want to give girls a chance to meet up.. and compete against one another. Male gamers are generally more competitive whereas girls are less competitive this doesnt mean girls cant beat guys of course. A lot of girls want to compete among one another too so this is a perfect occasion for them to do so.
Last but not least, as girls are a huge minority in sc2 scene we really would like to foster the community with this and let it grow and bring more girls in.
Please think before spam with msgs of female based tournaments being sexist because its just a short sighted argument.

I mean people make Nation based tournaments and somehow I don't see everyone jumping up and calling why can't the French compete with the Ukrainians? Are they not equal? It has nothing to do with it... It's just an even for a specific target audience for a specific reason.
So yea people organize events as they please. Have a problem? Don't tune in or make a better event yourself...
EDIT:
Just a silly question: how do you know/enforce it's a girl signing up/playing? I mean it's an online event

Its pretty obvious that there are fewer females openly involved in sc2 as compared to male participants so dont you think its a good thing for all of us to help make it more acceptable and put the minority in a "spotlight" (sorta speak) to help encourage that part of the community to grow? The tourny isnt about females being less gosu than guys its about showing off the female players skill and what better way than vs there fellow female players, i think its a great way to further develop sc2 and make our community more diverse. gogo ESL Female cup5!

Females can't compete with males so they need their own tournaments - lets be honest thats the only reason these tournaments exist, nothing to do with girls having fun playing against each other.
I'd like to see the Special Starcraft League for players with disabilities, just imagine the possibilities...how awesome would it be to watch a player with 1 arm only playing with mouse or no arms playing with feet, better yet a player with a mental disability that scouts with command center....brilliant

You think you're funny mocking disabled people and having them play against each other for your own amusement? Ridiculous. I wish I had the report button.
The point of this tournament is to encourage female participation in e-sports, it has nothing to do with "competing with males". In case you don't fucking realize, the ratio of guys to girls who play starcraft is not 1:1. I don't even know why I bothered saying that considering how the OP has already explained this more than sufficiently to people like you who come here to deposit your little sexist remarks.

A.) The current culture both within and outside of gaming places extreme pressures on females against being interested in both competition and video games as a competitive (ie, not girly) endeavor. The lack of female gamers in high profile tournaments does not come from lack of skill but from socially projected restrictions against them doing it.
B.) Showmatches vs blind folks already happen in SC1
Stop with the complaining of females should compete in male tournaments and its unfair for females to have female only leagues or warns/bans will be handed out. It's not like its a tournament worth 100k or something get over it.

This tournament is worth more than 100k..
It doesn't matter what it's worth!
It doesn't matter if it's all male, all female or all dog.
Competition is competition and it's great that we have more tournaments to watch.

What TSL are you watching?
TSL 1 and 2
Essentially 2/3 of all TSL tournaments.
Essentially the exact same reason the TSL was started in the first place. Now we have TSL 3 built on the backs of TSL 1 and TSL 2 and TeamLiquid and other non-Koreans believing against all odds that it was possible to be competitive against Korea at all.

Oho man must resist the oh-so-win misogyny. I'd actually be kind of interested to see the skill level of female players. I'm sure a lot of them are better than me, but never seen any on an actual professional level.

Aside from that fact, this is one of the more ignorant statements i've read lol. Just because a girl streams and is in diamond/masters league doesn't mean lal the ones who aren't in public spotlights can't compete.

I dont get it. Its not in arabic so you must understand what i wrote there.. but if you want to get involved/participate in the organisation u can contact the nationalesl.com like i stated at the main post. There are alot of girls who want to play that so they would really appreciate it if you guys set up something there
was hoping to get a cheatcode email rather than ferreting it out for myself. did you mean a site admin? or a forum admin? are they one and the same? how do I contact the site admins? ect ect. but i'll get on it.
If you go to the site at the bottom right corner you have Help & Support and below that you have Support which u click on make send a message that you wish to take part in a future female NA and inquire them to contact you. If you have further questions or it it's not working please contact me.
Glad to see you guys keep these coming. It's probably hard with all the trolls/idiots who think there's something wrong with a female only tourney. Hopefully more females will become interested in SC2, and who knows one day we'll finally have a pro female player who can compete at the top level.
The stream urls have been posted, make sure you tune in at the given time and enjoy the matches. We might try and get an interview at the end with the winner.

In Liquipedia - your standard repository of all knowledge and wisdom in the SC eSports universe, for though it has some omissions and contains quite some stub articles, it scores over any other wiki in two important respects: First, it is completely free and run by the awesome TL.net community and Second, it has the words StarCraft and Encyclopedia combined in a single noun phrase, written in large, friendly letters on its main page, just below the words Welcome to Liquipedia, which, although being slightly bigger, are no less friendly and makes you all warm and fuzzy inside.

I dont understand why they would make a certain league for just females. If anything its a bit of discrimination against women, I mean, there basically saying that females cant handle the normal leagues, so we'll make a pure female league because a women would'nt do well in a normal league. I dont get it, if your a women starcraft player lookin to join a league, dont join this one, get in a real league where you can actually make a true name for yourself.

Hi, I have a shiny white armor and can't read the first post.
White Knights have good intentions, this guy is just bitching without thinking anything through or reading the OP. Not the same.
GL with the tourney though, hopefully someone breaks out and starts trying for the biggest leagues.

Please god don't start up this whole debate again .....
But <3 the idea of these cups, and best of luck to all the ladies that play in it!
Why? Its a good debate, I think that all female gamers should be encouraged to play in the male leagues.

I don't understand why comments like above get warned/banned. megumixbear, the Japanese American girl Terran Master who often play with LiquidRet. She said the following on her stream (I'm quoting, u can confirm with her):
1. Some female ESL players cheat, it's well known, since all ESL requires, is voice chat.
2. I feel that I can compete with guys, no need to enter a female-only tournament or league.
megumixbear definitely has her points. Just talk to her when she streams, you'll understand.

Because the original post specifically states that anything related to the topic should not be brought in here.
I didn't have the chance, with the TSL and NASL, to see all of this tournament, but from what I've seen I can say that I found it enjoyable. New faces and competitive games. Congratulation on a solid event. Keep it up!
Damn, too bad I missed it. I don't get why people get so sensitive about something people are doing just to have fun. Hopefully there is another one so I can tune in.
This Tournaments seems very interesting. Somthing a new Commentator needs to be above the rest is there any way to abtain replays from this Tournament and others like it.
