Casters:TorcH, Kelly Milkies and DoA (Code-A caster from last season.) There may also be quite a few guest appearances!
Broadcast Schedule:
Thursday 4/7/11, Starting at 7:00 AM Eastern.
TorcH and DoA will be broadcasting live from Korea in the GOMtv Foreigner House, with all of the players in front of them. This happens right after the Code-S group selection finishes.
Teams will select one player at the beginning of the tournament to play first, not knowing who their opponents will be. The winning player will stay in the "Hot Seat" and will challenge the next opponent from the opposing team. The player that wins stays in the seat while the player that loses is eliminated from the tournament in its entirety. The team with the last man standing wins!
Maps: GSL Maps (The exact order has not been decided.)
Prize? The shear pleasure of viewer entertainment!
Look for announcements regarding additional 'Clash of the Houses' Events as well as "After the Clash' online cash prize cups at the Cyber Sports Network website (Beta).
anyways, this is awesome! gomtv is letting you do this?
wow just checked out the MLG vids you guys did. great work with the production and getting these interviews. always great questions. looking forward to your success
HuK and HayPro were just at MLG Dallas, and Jinro stays at the OGS House I believe. So its just the actual World Allstars that are staying at the gomTV foreigner house and yes we will be working with gomTV to bring you guys a lot more events like this!
World All-Stars is looking Zerg heavy, with some big-name Protoss players thrown in there too. I'm a bit scared for them since they lack a Terran player, which could hurt their team depth. However, All their players still look scary nonetheless. Too bad Jinro couldn't tag along to bolster their numbers.
pretty late announcement :/ cant wait for this, looks like the Korean scene is merging with the world scene, im pretty sure World Allstars can take this )
No prize and foreigner terrans is kinda sad, only having to deal with 2 races kinda diminishes the value of the format, but should be really cool nonetheless!
On April 07 2011 07:41 dkream wrote: prolly wont feature mvp and nestea... but hopefully will see losira... who else is in IM?
It will feature Mvp and/or NesTea if the World All-stars can win at least 3 games. IM will bring out the big guns to ensure that they don't lose to foreigners. The only caveat is that there are no T's on the foreigner team, and Mvp's best matchup is TvT, and surely he's been practicing that matchup almost exclusively for the past couple of days.
I'd bet that we see Losira first from IM (their third best player, probably) in order to try to grab a lead. He's a pretty awesome ZvZer, but Dimaga or Sen could take him if conditions are right. I think the foreigners should start with Sen.
Awesome prize! This should be pretty exciting. I hope the Koreans take it semi-seriously. Or maybe I hope neither side take it seriously and just have ridiculous amounts of fun.

You don't ask to get featured, the mods feature you when they feel like you provide enough good content for the community to be featured.
The channel doesn't need to be featured. You can just pm a mod that this event is happening and so they can add it to calender then when the event starts it will be over to the side.
On April 07 2011 09:41 phANT1m wrote: I so think that World will win this, unless Nestea and IMMvP give a really crazy good showing and take enough games.
Losira is probably in the best game shape of this entire COTH tournament, with mvp at a close second. Honestly, IM has a better overall lineup both in terms of form (and probably skill) than the Korean All-stars team. I really don't think the World team has any chance.
if IM takes it seriously (same seriousness as GSTL) they should be able to easily take this, deep protoss line, though since IM has pretty much only MVP at terran, there isn't a race depth advantage. If they approach this as the Korean All-stars seemed to take this, world has a shot.
This is gonna be good. Although I think that IM will win out, they no that foreigners are not "just like computers" now so they may be prepared. I hope kelly doesn't get too much hate.
@stamper there is more stuff like this coming from Korea courtesy of CSN and Jtv! Also big shout out to TorcH for helping orchestrate these events.
@xlat it was a spur of the moment deal we tried to get it as organized as we could. We literally started planning this last night about at 2 in the morning.
This is a test run to see how the stream holds up / how the viewers enjoy something like this.

fair enough, just that it might not get the attention it deserves
Cool! We get to see some nice matches now, where hopefully desk/chair height, rumbling monitors, nerves from being in front of a huge crowd and lag won't be an issue.
I won't be able to see most of it either (assuming it starts on time). Damn.
I was just on the stream and spoke to Torch:
torchgaming: We'll probably be going live about 8p KST (7a EST), but we wont actually start the matches until about 20-30 min after the Code-S group selection finishes since we need some ppl that are there to come to the gom house first
While I hate to add to the pointless hating 'discussion', I guess I should mention that I'm tuning in because there looks to be some great matches - and the fact that I get to hear Torch again, who I haven't since GSL Season 1, and Kelly, who I found to be a solid caster for Code A, just makes it even better
Also, while I will be in general rooting for the world, NesTea is teh awesome, and I'm afraid I'll be rooting for him if he plays :D
You know I didn't see what everyone was hating on Kelly for but I see it now. Meaningless questions, awkward transitions, knows close to nothing about the game, and just seems to lack competence. I sincerely hope GOM does not pick her up for Code A.
Everyone on the stream has been asking for a White-Ra interview for the past ten minutes, and instead they're interviewing... carn?... who's not even playing -.-'

We literally organized this, at 2 AM yesterday morning we just had a small window of opportunity and decided to act and actually do the event. So we did not have much time to get it announced everywhere we did the best we could with that amount of time we had. We are at 3k viewers for 8:48 am EST so we are happy with that!!
So for all of the U.S. people that got up early or stayed up all night like myself :p , hope you guys enjoy and just remember this is our first rodeo at doing this type of event from Korea. Please leave any suggestions/ comments here and we will do our best to make them happen!

pm a mod to link the stream at the sidebar! it will raise so much views
i have been working on getting the stream listed on the side for hours now, I want to thank the TL guys who I have been speaking to in IRC. They are trying but apparently only 2 guys can access that to allow that to be showed.
A ton of that supply was roaches, which were originally balanced around being 1 food. 200/200 roaches lose to any other 200/200 unit mix in the entire game except like observers :p
As for the rest, those were +3 attack Colossus. Of course they'll do great against zerg with no defense upgrades in the smallest choke on the entire map when half the units in the zerg can't attack.
The game's pretty much over, despite how many times the casters have said that White-Ra is coming back into the game (which I don't understand). gg any second.
White-Ra is defeated by IMTrue bringing the score to 1 IM 0 World Allstars as IM's True will remain in the hot seat and take on the World Allstars next player!
On April 07 2011 21:58 cuppatea wrote: So THAT'S how badly you have to outplay your opponent to barely win a ZvP. Nice.
WhiteRa was hardly outplayed. He showed amazing micro and the zerg played horribly in terms of picking some of the worst engagement spots on the map. That first attack would have won if half his units weren't attacking the Nexus while +3 Colossus roasted his army in the smallest choke on the map.

Lol please get out of here. Stop trying to validate his loss by insinuating there is cheating going on. With all these foreigners watching, HOW DO YOU KNOW... NO ONE IS messaging white-ra? Or no one is in the room with him. Or how do you know the door is actually closed? How do you know the room is entirely soundproof from them casting? It's easy to accuse both sides if you want to play that game.

Page 9. First balance whine. Nice.
For what it's worth, IMTrue didn't exactly engage in the best positions for most of those battles. He just threw a crapload of units at White-Ra (whose micro held up for a little while) over and over again until he eventually overran him.
Really nice you organized this. Looking forward to see more of foreigners against koreans, doesn´t matter that it´s just a showmatch. Good luck foreigners, bad start white-ra sad you are out already.

A few korean zerg pros have recently said ZvP is easier than ZvT - so clearly not everybody thinks the matchup is broken. please, just enjoy the games !!

IMTrue didn't really play that amazing, highly doubtful he would have gotten any tips from his teammates. Koreans also seem like very honorable people.

If you know anything about zerg play then you should know that zergs have been doing that for a long time now -_-, and half the time it doesn't work anyway if the protoss army is maxed out and actually close to your territory, you have no time to re-max.
Not sure I liked White-Ra's build for that map, it was nice how long he held out for though.

I dont want to enter into a balance discussion, I was just noticing that even after a game like this, there are zergs to whine.
Atm I'm just sad about one of our ace player is already knocked out :-/
Sen is winning against Zergling/Baneling/Roach/Hydra with Zergling/Baneling/Mutalisk because of his amazing Baneling control. He kills all the Hydras with banes (breaking through the roach wall in one area) and then cleans up with his mutas.
Not sure I agree with Sen's ZvZ style There was a huge window where IMTrue could've just gone and killed him, plus it's incredibly risky even when you get the mutas out.

This is a pretty fun even, props to CSN, torch, doa, kelly and everyone else who had a hand in getting this up and running.

Its not like Yoda is a player who does all-in every match. Its a legitimate, obvious effective strategy. Edit: And yes, it may seem awkward in a show-match for us. But Koreans have different understanding. They don't bitch about cheese that much.
i dont understand why he'd do something like that in a showmatch... This is the time where you do funky builds like what Sen did against IMTrue. Not go 2 rax 4 rax allin.. Especially when there's no money on the line

But in this case the foreigners are actually better. Noones actually expecting IM to win....
Does anyone else think Kelly has significantly improved her pronunciation? I wasn't a big fan of her casting before, but she seems much better now then during her Code A run.

You and I must be listening to different streams then. Her pronunciation is just as bad. Either that, or its the terrible mics they are using =(. The dude that is NOT DOA though, seems to have a really good mic on his headset, why can't they lend it to DOA to use =(.

Seed almost all killed oGs in the previous GSTL, only MC defeated him. Yonghwa is considered by many Koreans to be one of the best P's in the world, and he is famous for his builds. He created the 2-3 base voidray colossus push vs Zerg and the 3 stalker rush vs 4 gate, among other tricks and builds that many Protosses use on a regular basis nowadays.
Why do korean terrans have so much trouble with bane busts? They were popular months ago and people learned to easily stop them, but I guess they all forgot :x

I'm well aware of the one accomplishment he has to his name that gets him so hyped. I'm also aware that he's still not qualified for Code S (not that that is an easy feat though), as well as the fact he didn't do particularly well in the last 2 SK asia champions trophies he played. He's 0-2 in competitive PvZ and 1-3 in competitive PvP.

More likely that certain Justin.TV servers are having trouble (evidenced by only certain people having trouble and only certain bandwidths giving problems).
Really kind of an odd game though, "BearPunch" kept MorroW back on 2 bases for ages, then matched him on 3 too...but never secured a really solid position in the midgame and MorroW seemed to roll over almost every attack.

It's a showmatch series. IM wants the guys who don't usually get to play have some screen time.
Is anyone restreaming this? I don't normally have any problems with justin.tv but the stream is just loading forever for me. Tried it in a few different browsers, don't know what to do!

tbh Gaebyul should probably have killed him too =p I think I can count on one hand the number of times a Terran kept a Zerg to 2 bases going through midgame, got their third up first, and then still lost the match hehe =p

Seed is 0-2 vs Z in competitive series, but Protoss is definitely MorroW's kryptonite

huk is apparently restreaming,
And the quality seems better, even though it's on lower resolution. It goes smoother so probably the frames per second are better.

morrow had what? 8 corruptors vs. 5 phoenix in that last engagement, he lost quite a bit when he got blunked. Corruptors didnt lose him the game, hydras not doing their job did.

He made a total of 10-12 corruptors and he didnt make them for phoenix, he got tricked and if those had been hydra it would've been pretty much even trade in that fight.
he remaxed after 4-5 of those corruptors died though, and had a supply lead + toss had wasted supply on phoenix. Very good forcefields won that fight, i didnt see morrows upgrade but i guess they weren't 2/2 yet. Saying that morrow lost because of corruptors is just ignorant.

Jinro's not confident in TvP right now I think he stated. Not sure why they didn't send out one of the zergs but they probably wouldn't have a good chance on this map tbh.... not good for Z at all because of the natural.

He made 10-12 or so completely useless corruptors. That's a lot of resources and supply better invested in hydras, or even tech to infestor. I don't know what else to say the corruptors are why he lost. He had good concave just not enough ground units. He did remax on hydra but none of them were able to do a thing since his main army was already dead.

no. jinro hates tvp
So does Yonghwa :X well not hate but it's his weakest matchup, since he's nearly invincible vP and vZ and he pioneered the most popular tactics and tricks of those 2 matchups.

Huk immediatly left the game and said GN to chatroom on his stream after the game ended so I'm guessing he was tired so wanted to play early and leave. It's 1am there
moonglade is really yet to show any results in korea. everybody is saying how much he improved and stuff, but anytime he goes against a korean in a remotely important match, he gets crushed pretty badly.
And it has been said Dimaga is very weak vs. P right now. Ideally Jinro wins then loses to a zerg and Dimaga cleans up. Although I see Youghwa cleaning up.
So, don't know if it's been asked before but not in the pages I read; The stream isn't working for me, I get the ad and then just a black screen. Any way to fix that? Oh and yeah, I tried the quality lower thing.

Try out the 720 and 360 options, I had to toggle between them a bit till it finally worked (on 720)

That game was a little painful, though I guess if the ling/baneling drop hadn't got scouted things would have been rather better for Glade.
It's his fault that it got scouted, not like it was bad luck or something. With those starting positions he needed to set up to the north (or not do it at all). Can't just copy Dimaga's game and not think about it.

That was not an epic TvP game. I saw a passive game where both sides built up with an occassional drop-play and push, followed by a retreat and rebuild.
I don't understand how YongHwa could throw the game away like that.

That felt pretty forced. Good showmatch value though, with giant clashes, nuke/mothership/bc, and tons of things mined out. Am thinking that either player could have ended it multiple times but dragged it out for good showmatch funzies.

becasue he got 5k gas/mineral stacked so it was logical and safe play, protoss was letting jinro built whatever he wanted... im not into non-aggression pact games, nukes are awesome when its part of strategy not when u have 5k stacked and u have nothing to do with it, destroying 5 cannons with nuke is epic?

Long game but not epic. Yonghwa never crossed over to Jinro's side of the map. He played so passive. Never attacked or tried to deny expo even with advantage. After taking out 3 players, I don't know if he was even trying anymore.
@csn_andrew, was there any reason this couldn't have been done on like friday at a regular GSL time instead of going into like 2am korean time lol. probly get more viewers and stuff. Well I guess the 8v8 was an impromptu thing so guess there is always next time.

The 20+ fails? A game shouldn't be that passive to allow that many nukes anyway. Nukes don't make a game epic, just because they're underused. Almost every unit in the game was made from both sides because they were so indecisive.
On an unrelated note, if you want an epic TvP without the passive bits go watch Bomber vs WhiteRa game 4 from the ICCup showmatch =) (well, that whole series for some brilliant T play vs P imo)
I can't recall ever being really impressed by Junwi when I've seen him play, but he did almost qualify for Code A again so he must be doing something right most of the time.

Jinro marine tank most of the way, Junwi with muta ling bling. Jinro's gosu marine splits = ends up ahead on bling fights, but... omg base race in progress now. mutas in main, mass marine in main!
Junwi takes the island, Jinro tries to drop on it but mutalisks come in to intercept, Jinro loses a lot of his army as they are caught in between. Muta ball quite big, 29 mutas.

If the air unit it directly below you, it looks closer than it actually is. It doesn't matter so much when the air unit is to the left or the right of your marines (it will still be a little "lower" than it looks though).
Yeah, 3D crap for air units.
Edit: And if the air unit is above your units, it will actually be a little closer to your marines than it looks.

SlayerS used more than 4 players in GSTL, so no SlayerS didnt do "exactly that." Nor was there only 4 players that showed up any of SlayerS series, so again whats your point?
YongHwa is definitely A-team. He is code S material, I have no idea how he keeps failing to qualify, but he's the most influential protoss in Korea. Just because they didn't use only 3 players doesn't mean they didn't win because of them. MMA in particular was so important that if he was in another team, that team would've probably won.
When your team uses a total of 6 or 7 players, but 90% of your team's wins were by 3 of those players don't they constitute your A-Team?

Yeah. YongHwa is insane as he demonstrated.. now if only he had A-moved at like 12 points in the game he would've won and I'm sure he knew that.
Don't want to take anything away from the foreigners though, they played well.
I don't know why people argue that Koreans aren't better - its obvious they are, does that translate to a 100% winrate? of course not.
I'm convinced its just a matter of time though until the foreign scene reaches the same level but Korea is always going to have a very high number of awesome players compared to other countries because of the head start they have had when it comes to esports.
On April 08 2011 03:18 legaton wrote: Weak, they lost even without IMMvP and Nestea
I think you are grossly underestimating the strength of IM's roster. The top 200 Koreans can all take games off of each other, and these guys on the World Team like Sen, DIMAGA, Ra, etc. are all world class players. It's just a testament to the parity in skill level in SC2 right now, as well as the volatility of the game.
I was predicting an easier win for IM though - thought that at least Losira (who's looking to be in top shape after the GSTL) would play.
even if dimaga won that last game, i feel IM won today with this lineup, like artosis said "we felt like we won though we lost because we only lost 7-8". and now without losira nestea and mvp IM still managed to win 8-7. we need artosis as our coach its weird its' been no happy seed or yonghwa in code a yet

I don't see why it's obvious that "Koreans are better". That makes it sound like certain players are better because they're Korean. Korea has more top tier players than any other country for sure, but they aren't clearly much better than top tier players from other countries as far as I can tell. Keep in mind when people point out things like foreigners losing to Koreans who aren't code S/code A that even GSL champs are capable of losing to players who aren't code A (as evidenced by team league). All I've seen from the "world all stars" is good games and close series where it felt like anyone could potentially win, not a group of guys getting dazed and outclassed by a somehow superior race/culture/nationality/whatever.
I would agree that the GSL (which includes non-Koreans) is the highest level SC2 league in the world overall though. But I think a lot of players could do well in it that aren't willing to move to Korea.
On April 08 2011 04:24 Tanx911 wrote: Make a reality show already! I love the idea of being able to flip into the player's games but I think one of the real draws would be showing the actual players etc
Yeah, it's really cool to see them in a relaxed atmosphere like that. I mean there are already enough events that focus on the actual games, so this is nice for a change.
Korea has a better eSports infrastructure to consistently produce higher caliber players, they will always have more 'pros' pre-se until the West catches up in terms of training houses etc. That doesn't mean that foreigners can't compete with the Koreans long-term. With the right work ethic and practice partners/routine any player can succed. Jinro is a great example.
With the new big leagues (NASL, MLG, IGN, IEM, Dreamhack) and training houses (Root etc) growing in the West it can only get better.

You probably should look at the players they use and their successes rather than the players that show up. There's a clear trend of which players certain teams use - only rarely do we see a new face go out, and that's just to get the player experience, usually when the team is already ahead. It can't be denied that SlayerS's run through the GSTL in terms of who got their team wins was pretty much done by MMA, Ryung, and Alicia, with a bit of help from Min.

Thank you very much for this event, it was great Only the stream faltered every now and then but other than that, it was truly enjoyable for the short time you had to prepare.

keep making excuses. I can understand the one about nestea and MVP not playing but to try and say "I don't think the koreans are trying" is just pathetic
Why can't you accept that, if MVP, Nestea and Losira all weren't sent out?
MVP and Nestea were sent out in the first team match. Didn't change the score.

On the other hand, the most famous on-stage players are often not the most successful in-house players.. I'd say players like Yoda and happy could probably be every bit as dangerous as losira or MVP.. oh and they didn't send losira at the end, because he would have faced dimaga in a ZvZ.

I think that's not the point. It's a fun Showmatch, so why not let the more unknown players play to get some experience and show up in the world? I think that's the reason. If you watch Yoda for example: He ist good but it's silly to say he is as scary as Mvp or Losira. But your last point seems obvious because they didn't know dimaga until the GSL World's and in this short time he shows scary ZvZ - that's the only thing they know about him.^^
