You won't be sad when you see why. I'm reading through the production documentation and process at the moment and the amount of polish and work that's going to go into this may blow your mind.

I'm a firm believer in live-casting as well, but in this case, I think the pay-off will be worth it.

There seem to be an extremely hateful and vocal minority here on TL that starts frothing as soon as TB (and pretty much anyone who is not Day9/Tastosis) is mentioned.

Face it, the guy is working his ass off to put up a good show and has been dramatically improving his knowledge of the game ever since he started casting. As far as I know he's got a good relationship with Day9 (I even recall Day9 speaking up about this in the past) and is an avid follower of the dailies. How the hell people could twist things to the point they seem to believe he harbor some kind of disrespect towards Day9 is beyond me.

While I'm not entitled to speak on the behalf of the community and state something along the lines of "the majority of the community is quite happy with the choice of casters" as if it was a fact, my impression is that they are.

Hopefully .

I won't not watch it because of the replay casting, I watch TSL after all, it just doesn't quite feel as epic for some reason .

I think the only advantage that live casting has is when you can actually see the players and their reactions. For example, in GSL/OSL/MSL/whatever, during a tense moment, they'll zoom in on a player's face and record their worried or intense expression. After a game, you can see players so crushed and disappointed or elated and crying.

Obviously that's not possible for IPL or NASL (at least not until the LAN finals) so we get replay casting. Replay casting does have one advantage that live casting does not, and that's that things like long pauses during a game can be circumvented because the viewer doesn't have to sit through the pause and listen to the commentators fill air until the problem is resolved.

Came here to see the exact same team.

Despite, having different styles, all of these casters are working hard and have a great love of the game. As long as the excitement and professionalism remain true, every caster should be treated with the respect they deserve. Trying to call for someone's head based on uneducated rants does little to add to the discussion.

You're missing a couple other advantages of live casting which are minor but not negligible:

* The psychological feeling of watching an event that is happening *right now* somewhere in the world. This benefit is obviously hard to quantify.
* Avoiding the (admittedly very small) risk of spoilers from viewing game history or having a player leak results.

I do agree that in this case (like in TSL), the pros of replay casting outweigh the cons.

Woot. Can't wait for this to start. TB casting is going to be epic!
To all the people hating on him, why does every thing have to be analytical? You would assume that if it is on IGN, a lot of the people watching will be casuals. Not only is TB the right choice but he is also one of the best casters (imo) in the world, analytical or not.
Just don't watch then. Watch GSL and TSL and all.

Yeah, that's true, it was exciting staying up late to watch OSL and knowing that it was happening live. There is something intangible there that makes it more exciting.

We believe that in a situation where the players won't actually be playing in sight of each other or the crowd that doing it this way is significantly better. The only thing people lose is the magical feeling that someone is playing at the same time they are watching it, but it also means that there are no technical issues from players, from bnets, from the casters or having to deal with scheduling and organization on the day, having to delay games waiting for people, the list of negatives goes on and one and the one positive of it being 'live' we consider to be very small in comparison. In addition, doing it off replays means that we can prepare assets specifically for the cast that we couldn't in a 'live' situation.

That's a very good trade-off in my view. As a viewer, you want no interruptions or downtime, or as little as possible. If it's casted off replays there'll be no technical difficulties with BNet acting up or people lagging, which has been the plague of many tournaments, remember RedditSC finals? I think people have a short memory for the tournaments where such things have failed. It's not something the organizers can do something about, it's out of their reach, but it does reflect upon their tournament, which is very sad, considering sponsors who want things to go smoothly.

Mike Tirico never played in the NBA or NFL, yet is one of ESPN's go to guys for broadcasting both league. Joe Buck never played in the NFL or MLB yet is FOX's go to guy. Yes they get paired with a former player or coach, but they are there for the play by play, which is what these casters will be doing. They are casters who need to explain sc2 to people who don't play it. They are guys you can use to introduce people to competitive sc2.
