This reeks of the finals last year in Dallas, practically the same thing.

Strange that they cant get internet to support 60 computers and 3 streams when dreamhack can support 14000 computers and 20 streams

Man, why is US internet technology so fucking behind this?

I guess the US have a bit more area to cover... cant be the only reason though

Well geez I wouldn't expect 40 GB covering the whole country, but in dense population centres you'd think they'd do a bit better. I get the impression that internet connections is not something the US government put a lot of money into, while Sweden (and other places like South Korea) do.

Government is not the solution..most of the time it is the problem. Which is why there isn't faster internet because of the high cost and red tape involved.

ahahahaha
yes
truly, corporations will solve all of our problems if we just let them run free like the wind

pro tip: every country with good internet had the infrastructure subsidized heavily by its government. it works

In a free market without hindrances to enter the market, it is the solution.

Infrastructure is expensive. No ISP can run lines to every home, the state should do that and lease to the ISPs.

States don't understand the value of internet infrastructure. It has taken until this year for the governor of Georgia to put money into the Northern part of the state..... even then the infrastructure upgrade just links a lot of USG schools.

Right, there isn't enough money to do it because of the "cut taxes!" crowd.

It has beeen fricking 3 hours! What the hell man.. Does anyone know what is even going on, apart from games being paused?

It's NOT BNET! It's their local internet!

Again if Blizzard released lan play, this wouldn't be happening. It's a problem on both sides. MLG worked hard to fix the stream from yesterday, but if blizzard won't release lan, this is going to happen.

Blizzard not releasing lan play is not causing this problem.

MLG KNEW BEFOREHAND THEY WOULD HAVE NO LAN.

They still didn't have the infrastructure necessary for an event of this size.

Who does? I'm not sure theres a single convention center in the US that can handle this. MLG is the only organization that's willing to try SC2 like this in the US. They're trying what no one else would try. It's like when steam came out, everyone thought it was complete shit. No one liked steam when it first came out, but how can you blame valve, it had never been done before. MLG has had 3 sc2 events and I'm sure they're trying to fix it every event.

How much can MLG fuck up before Blizzard starts thinking about not let them organize tournaments?

Have Blizzard ever pulled a permit for tournaments?
I am not young enough to know everything.

Hey, look on the bright side, guys; Blizzard has to be watching this event closely, right? And they really want it to succeed, since it would directly lead to more sales for them, right? So when it's having all these internet problems, they'll want to do something about it, right?

So if this event leads to Blizzard reconsidering their LAN stance and releasing a tournament LAN mode...well, this would all be worth it, right? Right? RIGHT?!

Last year they had people on the floor getting interviews and whatnot, I don't know why they aren't doing that this year. It's a convention center filled with top players whose opinions we want to hear about.... and it's still just JP and Wheat bullshitting.

i know everyone is saying we need lan. But i have to disagree. Its blizzards form of copy protection. they have to make money to make more games.
second, none of the other major tourneys have these problems. its all on mlg

Everyone complaining about the stream issues:

1) Go to http://support.akamai.com/flash/index.html (can take a while to load, the Akamai support player is meant primarily for video stream debugging)
2) Copy-paste into "Enter URL to test here" following RTMP-stream url: rtmp://cp121276.live.edgefcs.net/live/estreamsq_3@49981
3) Press "Test" button on the left
4) Video starts streaming with messed up aspect ratio - go to full screen mode on the player and enjoy. You won't be seeing any advertisements either (instead you just see "Stream will resume momentarily" static screen during the commercial breaks)

The stream is LQ flash-stream where the browser falls back in case you don't have Octoshape installed. It is streamed via Akamai (_the_ premier content delivery network) and they have a ton of capacity to handle live streams unlike (apparently) Octoshape.

It bums me a lot that MLG haven't got their stuff together considering the huge amount of funding they received from VCs. Don't really understand their decision still to continue using Octoshape even after all the problems that have been reported to them on previous occasions - and especially use it exclusively in HQ stream. Akamai's delivery costs are considerably higher than Octoshape's, but where in earth they are planning to use all the freaking dollars they got - the live streaming from the events is in the core of their business that I don't quite understand their decision making with regards to tech choices..

Deserves re-post! Thanks man!

Thanks Ima.

MLG Promised people who bought HD free HD for the next event.

That's pretty legit of them.

So, I buy a service for HQ streams this weekend and then their fix is that you get a free HQ stream for Columbus months later? It doesn't work that way, I paid for a service this weekend and I expect it this weekend, or a refund. What if I am not around or available for MLG Columbus, what if I go to MLG Columbus, the free HQ stream does nothing for me.

Again terms of service. They did not guarentee it in the fine print and you said I accept and read this phrase.

O, so MLG is one of those companies that resort to fine print instead of treating customers properly, good to know they wont be getting another dollar out of my wallet and many others on these boards ever again.
