The stuff that's down is their main servers, which are not hosted from the convention centre. The convention centre transmits the video stream, sure, but the rest of it (registration, payment, the forums) are run off servers in a regular hosting facility.
nginx is a pretty decent server, so either they're getting crushed by traffic or have some kind of bug that they didn't notice until under heavy load.
nginx is fast but certainly not very stable. They should just go with Apache and problems like these won't happen.

I was kind of looking forward to this, but I guess mlg is having problems, and with their track record it will take hours to fix.

Just let my guys on the inside know about the website issues... hopefully they'll be able to update me via phone FROM the event if MLG decides to say anything while they get their servers back online on their main page
