With the Gadget Show Live approaching rapidly, Heaven Media and Alienware had come up with another cooperation and another project that features a specific eSports title and a whole lot of cash to be won by the winners. StarCraft II is the game of choice and £5,000 the amount of money up for grabs.
With StarCraft II having appeared on the eSports scene about one year back, the game has rapidly taken its place in the international eSports platform and is a fan-favourite all over the globe by former players, new stars and even WarCraft III professionals.
Alienware and Esports Heaven are now working together to give 128 players the shot to appear on the Gadget Show Live StarCraft II tournament and a part of the £5,000 prize purse. So this online cup will act as a Qualifier and will have no prize purse of its own, only the TOP 4 of this online cup will be given a slot in the StarCraft II tournament there and will have to fight it out amongst themselves.
128 players can now sign up for the Qualifier, which will start on March 21st, 2011 at around 20h00 CET and will take up the entire evening to eventually dwindle the amount of players down to the necessary and qualified four. These four then have to arrange flights to Birmingham, United Kingdom themselves to attend the Gadget Show Live from April 16th, 2011 until April 17th, 2011.
More information can be found here.
*Updated for the 2nd qualifier on Thursday*

5000$ or £5000?
This is what the UK / European scene needs a big fat juicy prize pool tournament! I watch gadget show so this would be epic!!
Cheers for the info.
Great news, SC2 really does seem to be changing up a gear in the UK with more and more prizes and money up for grabs as time goes on.
Looking forward to this! I will be streaming the qualifiers on monday so be sure to add me ingame to get your matches streamed. (Vequeth.130)
Great to see more LANs popping up in and around the UK . Let's hope we can actually get a UK player to qualify now :D
Signing up as this seems fun. the gadget show prize pool is probably the best thing on TV. SO MANY PRIZES.
This makes me want to start improving my game so I can compete. There aren't enough good UK players.

Misunderstood, nvm this post.
Be sure to tell any good players you know about this, it was a bit last minute. Needs more signups!
I'm so happy to see an event like this taking place in Birmingham I'm only silver league, so I'm not confident enough to sign up for the qualifiers, but I look forward to seeing the live event in Birmingham. I might even be able to persuade some of my non-SC-playing friends to come to the gadget show with me.
Edit: According to the Esports Heaven site, there'll be a second qualifier on Thursday.
This is why I love the gadget show ^^
to anyone not signing up. do it! i suck and if you beat me you can boast about getting into the 2nd round

wow, the UK scene is really non existent, £5000 on the line and no one wants to sign up, wtf?
Small update: GadgetShowLive chat channel ingame to contact your opponent ;p

On March 22 2011 02:40 Project Psycho wrote: wow, the UK scene is really non existent, £5000 on the line and no one wants to sign up, wtf?
IThe problem is there hasn't really been any publicity for the event prior to now, and there's very few details on the offline finals available.
Sure, it's a £5000 prize pool, but are there going to be additional pro invites on top of the qualifiers? What is the prize distribution?
It could be that everyone besides the winner ends up out of pocket from travel and hotel expenses.
I fully intend to play the qualifier and I just hope that the offline final is worthwhile for the people who manage to qualify.
^^^ "It could be that everyone besides the winner ends up out of pocket from travel and hotel expenses." is a really good point, especially as you say it's not clear if there will be pro-invites etc.
Will sign up for the second qualifier, and doubt I'll get through, but the lack of information is definitely off putting.
KnowMe kicked out naniwa 2-1. Kind of funny.
can i ask for more info, like how many players will play at the offline event? how many more qualifiers will be there, if any? will only the qualified players be able to play? thanks!
edit: the mappool seems to be the same as on the ladder. will you change the maps?

So this online cup will act as a Qualifier and will have no prize purse of its own, only the TOP 4 of this online cup will be given a slot in the StarCraft II tournament there and will have to fight it out amongst themselves.
edit: Oh well on their internet page I found this:
There will be a 2nd qualifier on Thursday with the same specifics&prize, registration will open the day after the one on monday is over.
So yeah I am confused now as well.
Second qualifier will also send 4 more to the LAN finals.
updated for 2nd qualifier.
Dont forget you have to re-sign up for the second qualifier, your first signup doesnt auto transfer over!
so who won it first time round?
Sjow, Select, Happyzerg, Goody
Come on UK, Don't makes us look bad. This is a tournament held in the UK and yet all qualified players are from outside the UK. Get registered, get playing, get winning. There is a lot of money up for grabs here and not only that but I'm sure a lot of people will be watching so if you want to further your eSports career you know what you need to do.
I can't see any schedule on the Gadget Show Live page, but I assume the final will be on Sunday 17th April. I got myself a ticket for sunday afternoon - only £10. I'm looking forward to it, and I hope to see lots of UK Starcraft fans there
It's because this has had zero publicity, anywhere. The uk still ignores gaming massively.
Please note that if you did not sign up in the correct format (Nick.123) then you were not accepted and will have to REAPPLY IN THE CORRECT FORMAT.
Edit: This particularly applies to people who signed up for the last qualifier with a name that was accepted then: http://www.esportsheaven.net/?page=tournament&action=view&tournament_id=671&content_id=2480 , those names will not be accepted now and you have to change your name if it doesnt have your character code in it.
I am so fucked for this, I've only just seen the player list D:

They don't really, the UK is one the largest gaming consumers in the world, but the whole zero publicity thing is kinda a big deal. It's come out of nowhere with no hype beforehand.

The UK gaming is mostly Call of Duty though, any other game is looked down upon, people think playing CoD is cool (probably because it requires no brain capacity) but not with SC2.

I had to stop due to an overheating issue on my processor sorry

they are not playing the semi finals i believe because top 4 do qualify, so your actually only missing out on Hasu vs Insolence.
Yeah, semi finals are not played, those 4 players go on to meet Sjow, Select, Goody, Happyzerg in the LAN finals in birmingham on the 16th/17th april.
Edit: Final qualifiers this time are Naugrim , Socke, NaNiwa and iNSoLeNCE
Leaving 3 Protoss, 3 Terran and 2 Zergs going to the final LAN, a nice spread of races imo.

I doubt there will be stage matches sadly but there are two big screens and a PA by the Alienware booth if you want to come down and watch. I am casting from a seperate area for fear that I will drown out the stage (seriously)
