CEVO Starcraft 2 Season 1 - Presented by Zowie
CEVO-Professional Playoff Grand Finals
The CEVO-Pro Starcraft 2 playoffs have reached the finals! The season started over 2 months ago with 12 of the top StarCraft 2 teams in North America. After 16 matches in regular season and a double elimination playoff bracket there are 2 teams left to claim the title of CEVO-Pro StarCraft 2 Season 1 Champions!
The first place team will receive (5) Zowie Hammer USB Headsets, while the second and third place teams will receive (5) SpawN P-TF Mousepads.
You can view the complete playoff bracket here: http://www.cevo.com/playoffs/bracket.php?id=1218
The match:
Map: Metalopolis
When: Wednesday (3/9) at 9pm EST
The streams: The match will be streamed live by both www.l2sc.tv and www.e-rev.tv (CAST IS OVER)
Format: Four players from each team will play 1v1's against the other team in a best of 3 series. Winning a series gives the players team a point, if the match is tied 2-2 after the first 4 series then an Ace game is played between the teams.
The teams:
sixjax.NrG has had a very impressive season in the CEVO-Professional division. In the regular season they went 15-1 with their one loss to team EG in a very close 2-3 match. They were seeded first going into the playoffs and have beaten everyone in their path on the way to the finals. sixjax.NrG beat team rS in a very close 3-2 match in the upper bracket finals. They will be considered the favorites going into this match, but will have a hard match to secure the first SC2 CEVO-Professional title.
VT gaming has had a rocky season compared to sixjax.NrG. In the regular season VT gaming went 9-7 and out of the 10 teams making playoffs were seeded 6th. VT gaming then lost their first playoff match to rS in a very close 2-3 score. After that match however VT has been on an impressive winning streak. They have won 5 matches in a row to come out of the lower bracket for the grand finals. The last two matches they beat team EG 4-0 then team rS 3-1. VT gaming should be in top shape for this finals match after beating the team that knocked them into the lower bracket!

Either way I'm very excited for tonight, this league has been running for a really long time and it's gunna be great to finally crown a champion.

No.
If a sixjax.NrG player wins a game vs. a VT Gaming player they are then allowed to down vote 1 map from the pool. Being that the loser picks the next map this will give the advantage to the sixjax.NrG player assuming they do win a game.
Example: sixjax.NrG player wins game 1 in bo3 vs VT Gaming player. sixjax.NrG player is Terran playing a Zerg and down votes Scrap Station. The VT Gaming player will need to pick the 2nd map from the pool minus Scrap Station.
If the VT Gaming player wins a game he/she is not allowed to down vote a map from the pool.
This is how we've decided to work the advantage to the Upper Bracket Winner instead of forcing VT Gaming to have to win twice because that would take a very long time. This way the advantage to the Upper Bracket Winner is still very obvious and substantial yet matches will take roughly the same amount of time.

this should be a good match, I predict 4-0 for NrG though based off of personal bias.
tl;dr
GOGOGO NRG FIGHTING!!!

Think NrG will take this one handily.

I kinda hate double elimination in general, since things like this happen. But it really sucks that we made it through the whole bracket without losing once, and VT is coming up from the losers bracket after losing once, and yet we are both on equal terms going into it. That being said, it would make for a pretty uneventful finals if we had 2 play 2 cws, but it would technically be fair and the most logical thing to do.
But since we are on the upper bracket we get to chose each individual lineup, and we also get to veto 1 map per game since we didnt drop a game in the bracket yet. If we can't win tonight we probably don't deserve 1st place :D

gogo nrg. take it home ~!

Good luck to both teams. We'll be releasing a post about Open finals as well in a few days. So stay tuned for that as well! This first season has been a blast to run and Season 2 will only get better!

I am updating scores/streams as real time as possible, also will be adding replay links after all the games are over.

VT must not make the most epic comeback in the history of sc2 cws and we should be ok. -_-"

osto and vibe won 2-1 and 2-0 respectively. dde and mihai are both up 1-0 now!

NrG dominated in CEVO pro. It was very impressive all season. They got 1st place and never looked back. Is CEVO doing another season? My manager asked them and one of their admins looked at us like we were crazy... Most leagues start the next season qualifiers during the playoffs. Pretty standard stuff... ?
Anyways once again congrats to NrG and also VT who went on an impressive run in the playoffs to finish 2nd.
|
yay, thx for the good, mannered CW!

Thanks to everyone who watched! Thanks for having us cevo <3 gg's vt, was fun cw~

We are planning many more events for Starcraft 2, as well as another season. However it is just a 'plan' so a lot of details are still in the air. Hopefully we will have firm details on another season in the next few weeks CEVO typically has a few weeks between seasons for all of our games as we run other events. Keep checking our homepage for the upcoming SC2 announcements, we will also post them on TL.
Also the Open division finals should be coming up in the next few days we will have a similar post for that match also.
Finally congrats to both sixjax.NrG and VT gaming on their placement this season, and good luck next season
