His objection makes complete sense with regard to American foreign language education. So in that respect, I understand how the same can happen with Korean children and English. There is another valid point here. Languages in europe are heavily influenced by each other, making learning them far easier then learning english as a korean speaking person. This does not explain the bad foreign language education of America for example. Folks here learn it here decently enough, but there's really no place to put it in practice outside the classroom for most people so it they eventually just forget it after the stop learning it due to disuse. I'd imagine it to be pretty much the same case for Korea/most other Asian countries with regards to English and other western languages.
French is even a second national language in Canada, and we learned it from grade 1. But After 10 years of french in school, I can honestly say I no longer remember much beyond "bonjour". Almost literally nothing. Because you aren't learning it to actually use it, you're learning it to pass the class.
So when you're out of the class, never using it, it just evaporates from your mind. ^^

Did anyone watch the 3 way tie matches? It was like watching Groundhog's day. By the end of it, Sjow, Squirtle and Socke looked like zombies.

It's there any way to download day 2's replays in one go? I think spoiler free replays are great and i'll download them if i have to, but i saw the matches live so i'd rather just download the whole bunch.

Actually, I didn't think Squirtle really looked all that that tired. Tired of it in #3, but after #4 he looked like he was ready to keep playing.

And the 2nd quarter-final at 2:45am PST? What is the 3rd SC2 event listed that says IFNG? The IFNG is part of the German ESL Pro Series, where HasuObs will meet TLO.
While Intel Extreme Masters is a global tournament, ESL Pro Series is our national series. And IFNGs are our regular offline events, where selected matches are being played. More information about ESL Pro Series (EPS) is available here: http://www.esl.eu/de/pro-series/summer_2011/

This.
I grew up in Ontario, went to a French school from Kindergarden to the 7th grade, primarily speaking French. I learned to read in French before English, I learned all my lower math in French as well. When I was 13 I moved to California and in the one year that I didn't take French (my Jr High didn't teach it) I forgot most of it by the time I took a French class my Freshman year, at which point I was learning things I had learned when I was 7.
Now that I'm 26, I can read in French but I'll be damned if I can remember how to speak it on my own.

If TL.net does not have it, you might as well go to the Intel Extreme Masters website (www.intelextrememasters.com or google it). All the info is there.

I think it's also a personal thing and will depend on one's ability and tendency to learn and remember languages. I learnt French on and off at high for about 4-5 years and even three years after my last French class, I can watch French movies without subtitles. On the other hand, I know other people who were in my class who know next to no French nowadays.
However, I think it is pretty bad for someone to retain so little English after schooling as it is certainly the predominant global language.

Also it wasn't like Sjow had no chance vs Squirtle. He won one game against him, lost one game because he lacked 15 gas, and had a superior economy in their last game, very close games.
