‘GSL March - New System, New Maps, New Players’
GSL Mar. Kicks Off On The 21st!
Blizzard Entertainment’s Korean eSports and broadcasting partner, GOM TV has announced that a month long journey of GSL Mar.
Code S will start with the opening match on February 22nd. This tournament, hosted by GOM TV, is the second league of 2011 GSL (Global StarCraft® II League) Tour.
The growing anticipation of eSports fans for GSL Mar. stemmed from the Code S Group Nominations. Players got to select their own opponents and showcased their witty remarks, creating interesting match-ups.
The ‘Group of Death’ will be the first group from Code S to march on to the battle field. The group includes GSL Sony Ericsson GSL Jan. Winner, ‘KingJJ’ IMMvp (Terran), GSL Open Season 3 Winner, ‘Presidentoss’ oGsMC (Protoss), ‘ZergHero’ ST_July (Zerg) who has made it to Code S last season and oGsHyperdub (Terran) who possesses a deadly finishing move.
Group B will be the next one on the line and the grudge match between North America’s best Zerg user EGIdrA and TSL_Clide will definitely be the match to watch.
EGIdrA and Liquid’Jinro both advanced to Ro8 in Sony Ericsson GSL Jan. They are in group B and C respectively and are projected to answer the expectations of global eSports fans.
In Group E, attention is being given to the ‘Emperor of Terran’, SlayerS_BoxeR and whether he will be able to get his revenge against the winner of GSL Open Season 2, the ‘ZergKing’ IMNesTea. SlayerS_BoxeR has 5 losses and 0 wins against IMNesTea from GSL Open Season 2.
In Group D, there are 3 Terran players and in Group G, there are 3 Protoss players. A fierce mirror matches are likely. Group D’s oGsNaDa, TheBestfOu, and oGsTOP will play TvT matches and Group G’s TSL_Trickster, anyproPrime, and NsPGenius will play PvP matches. Strategies that will catch the opponent off-guard and new builds are to be expected from the matches.
In Group F, the test for ‘ShinJoon’ FOXLyn (Terran) who has made it to Code S will continue and Group H’s MarineKingPrime (Terran) is expected to have a great match against ZeNEXKyrix (Zerg).
GOM TV actively listened to the opinions of eSports fans and made some modifications in the match schedule and the system for GSL Mar.
New maps will be used in GSL Mar. Crevasses, Crossfire SE, Terminus, and Tal'Darim Altar from GSTL (Global StarCraft® II Team League) Feb. will be used in GSL Mar. in answer to the requests of eSports fans.
GSL Mar. Code S Finals will take place on March 19th and the winner will be awarded 50,000,000 KRW and the runner-up will be awarded 20,000,000 KRW.
On 21st, new players like ST_Squirtle (Protoss), SlayerSCchapSeungEu (Terran), ZeNEXDestination (Terran), and IMLosira (Zerg) who demonstrated their potentials for the ‘birth of new stars’ during GSTL Feb. will display their skills in Code A matches.
All the matches from GSL Mar. will be available through live broadcasts and VODs at GOMtv.net.

Update: GOM posted the schedule half an hour ago:
What everyone has waiting for! Here is the broadcasting/match schedule for GSL March. ![[image loading]](http://img.gomtv.net/imgdata/20851.jpg) Skyblue indicates Code A matches and Orange indicates Code S matches. For Code S, Ro32 will follow the same format from GSL Jan. but Ro16 and up will follow the following format: ![[image loading]](http://img.gomtv.net/imgdata/20852.jpg) Enjoy! Source:http://www.gomtv.net/2011gstl1/news/60934 I also updated the details about Jinro and IdrA that GOM corrected.

no news on the new code A casters?
|
Yeah I'm looking forward to finding that info out too! Can't wait to see the awesome games Season 5 brings us!
|
Imo, at least Torch will be casting Code A, iirc he mentioned it after getting eliminated from quals?
|
definitely looking to see if July can take revenge on MC (1:2 loss in season 3 i believe)
|
EGIdrA and Liquid’Jinro both advanced to Ro16 in Sony Ericsson GSL Jan.
They made the Ro8?

Man, Group A has a King, a President, a God (of War) and ... Liu Kang?

No sponsor announced. Might still be Sony Ericsson or maybe they lost their sponsor, that would suck.

Hahahah. Hadn't noticed that. Though, to be fair, the Korean scene is crawling with kings, gods, presidents, emperors, and other notables. I think the next time we're looking for a nickname for a player we should call him the Pope of SC.

I can't wait for someone to be Protoss Messiah.

I imagine Zergs will veto Meta every time, seems to be the only major concern (barring balance issues with the new maps). Scrap is meh.
I'm wondering, if GSL players run into a non-tournament map on ladder, will they autoleave?

Wow they cut the winner's purse by 50%. Ouch. I guess MC, MVP, NesTea and Fruitdealer feel lucky.

If I remember correctly GOMTV redid meta so close positions arent possible, just like blizz did with shakuras.
On topic: That map pool looks freaking awesome. Hopefully no glaring issues with the new maps pop out and this will be the best GSL yet. I'm freaking hyped up!
|
so... when do we get to buy the season ticket? and how much is it gonna be?
|
GSL is a shoe in now with the new maps. The games during the Team GSL was freaking awesome compared to the 1 base allin fest that existed in previous seasons.
|
Amazing news. Couldn't be happier about this. Awesome map pool.
|
22 February? Thank you God. Thank you.
I can't live without GSL anymore, I was always a huge soccer fan. But GSL is so awesome to watch, I prefer it 10 times over my favorite soccer team.
I love this game.

So many games! So many. Every day, 4 weeks straight. damn. Love.

I'm sorry if I just missed this when I looked, but is there a reason there will be separate casters for code A?
Also, I bought the GSTL ticket after the matches just because they were so amazing. I cant wait to see Squirtel, Seed, Ace, and some of the others competing in code S with the new maps in the GSL in a couple months, I'm very excited!

Its so Tastosis doesn't die from the amount of casting they would have to do if they would have to cast every game.

IdrA is going to get it rough if he makes it into ro16.
Now that Ro16 is single elimination. He's going to face either the 1st or 2nd ranked of group A. So it's either going to be MC/MVP/July!!!! Insane match. Wonder who IdrA thinks he has a fair shot at
|
So in which group is FruidDealer?
|
Wow, Idra will have trouble in RO16. If i read this correctly, if he ends up 1st in his group he will face A2, and if he ends up 2nd in his group he will have to face A1. And A1/A2 would be IMMVP/oGsMC.
I wonder why he chose group B.

They are on battle net. Try creating a map and search for GSL.(At least on EU and NA dont know about the others). I don´t know if they are popular tough so you probably need to invite someone if you want to play.

God, I love those Korean nicknames.

‘ZergKing’ IMNesTea This as well.

Hyperdub's finishing move is called BB...
Oh right.
Anyways the map pool looks solid, ought to be interesting as to whether we'll see the same strategies or brand new ones created for bigger maps.
|
Dam good matchups. Poor hyperdub
|
Another grudge match? But the grudge match between cilde and idra is already finished. I thought the grudge was already settled and ended with a lol@clide tweet, so you can't have another grudge match over nothing.
|
Obviously, the grudge has only deepened on Clide's side. :p
|
Guys! I don't see any ticket PRESALES, why?
|
With the new maps, we'll finaly have "acceptable" imbalance. I mean, it will be like broodwar, we'll have maps slighty x favored, some heavily x favored (and not exclusivly terran if close pos, zerg if cross imbalance on EVERY MAP anymore) That mean in a bo3, we'll know this map is x favored, so y can practise hard to overcome it, or skip it, in brief, it will create a lot of new possibility. And yeah to "no more knowing the result at 0.01s of the game because of positions"
That said, this season will be very hard for terran imo, from the limited experience GSTL gave us. But this is a needed experience imo, so a new Boxer can emerge and save terrans xD

They chose group letters randomly from the top 8 players, did they not? He didn't choose anything, and I'm not even sure they knew that it would be group A vs B in the round of 16 at the time groups were chosen. Either way we'll have an awesome game from Idra in the Round of 16, providing he makes it, so thats something to look forward to!

I didn't know that GOM hired Ryan Seacrest!
Hyperdub's finishing move is the Shin Goku Satsu, but unfornately for Hyperdub, the keyboard doesn't translate arrow moves as well as the joystick, so he has never been able to pull it off.

yes lol, 7 days till GSL starts again. My sleep schedule has been all fucked up since GSTL and I end up watching Catz or getting rolled on ladder by the same dudes. Ownage!

MVP's name is the same (similar?) to the real King JJs, Cocoshoo's comic has them side by side (about halfway down) http://www.gomtv.net/2011gslsponsors1/photos/60910
MVP is basically terran royalty right now afterall
No idea for Lyn's, though his name is Park Joon so there's some connection xD

when will the season tickets be available and how much will they cost?

But hey, the harder it is, the more rewarding it is if you win :}

got my 10-20 bucks saved up for this, should be the best gsl to date given the culling of most of the weaker players from both codes during gsl 4, the advance of tactics, the emergence of new strong players, the seeding of foreign pros in code a, the addition of new maps, and the growing rivalries between players/teams, and the increasingly good production value by gom.
they better not fuck up on the code a casters though, that's my main concern, tastosis' a pretty hard act to follow and i wouldn't mind those two being overworked to death casting both codes :D
can't wait

Really looking forward to the GSL messing with my sleep schedule again. Can't wait for the page to go live and purchase my ticket! Let's go Ret, Huk and Jinro!

I think Idra would probably rather take MVP, he beat him once in GSL3 and beat him on ladder, also he already said Protoss is his weakest matchup.

They got rid of lost temple? That was my favorite in the pool (not a terran player) better then crap station

Where's Jinro's nickname?!!!!!
|
On February 16 2011 09:05 skrzmark wrote: They got rid of lost temple? That was my favorite in the pool (not a terran player) better then crap station LT is so awful for zerg. Dropping tank/marines or a thor on the ledge near the natural expansion is incredibly easy, very powerful, and requires a superhuman effort to save that expansion. Close positions are just as bad against a powerful marine rush or a protoss 4-gate, and taking a third is extremely difficult.
It's also not great for PvT. And terran can so easily float an expo to an island, put up turrets and make a planetary, and it's just silly how hard that is to attack as any race. Islands should be used very sparingly imo when one race has flying buildings and almost always has dropships on hand, while the other races typically don't get them unless its needed.
What I like about Lost Temple is the appearance. I want more maps on bright, fun to look at tilesets... I'm tired of everything looking so dark and black and purplish, like Metalopolis/Shakura/Xelnaga Cavers.
All the original "green" maps are gone now (LT, Steppes, Kulas) and so are the desert ones (Desert Oasis, Blistering Sands)...
At least Taldarim looks nice. Crevasse isn't too bad either I guess.
