I think nada was banking on the thors in and of themselves being able to handle what idra had and the scv's was there for meatshield and repair(to some extent). It also was a secret build he had so probably hadnt tried it out all that much and with close positions on metalopolis he figured he was in a good enough spot to keep going with it. Or he just wanted to lose and be done with it

If US did not intervene with governments all around the world throughout the Cold War, there would be much less terrorism throughout the world. US created and supported dictatorships all over the world in order to stop Soviets from expanding, and trained insurgents to overthrow socialist/left-wing governments. Once Cold War was over, US did not need them. That's all about current issues regarding terrorism. You might what want to check what happened in Nicaragua during '50s.
Without US military, the only bad thing that could have happened to the world would be in World War II, but really it was the heroic defense of Soviet Russia that really stopped German aggression, Allied forces just hit the killing blow.
It is funny how U.S citizens fear about Socialism/Communism, or think that Communism=Dictatorship. To be fair, noone knows what Communism is because it never happened. What happened in Soviet Russia was Socialism, and about dictatorship, it was all about Stalinism and some of the things that Lenin did, but you know what, there is almost no revolution in history without bloodshed, and sometimes innocent people get hurt as well.
