Who can play? Anyone with an EU account who does not live in a country assigned to the Korea or Taiwan server can participate. More specifically, players living in Korea, Taiwan, or China cannot participate. Players living in the SEA countries can participate.
How do I register? Registering for the TSL3 Qualifier #1 is the same as registering for the TeamSpeak TL SC2 Open. You will be able to register with your TL account on Thursday, Jan 06 7:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00). You will need to fill in your EU Battle.net account information to tie it to your TL account.
How do I qualify? There are 16 EU/NA qualifier spots. Winning a TL SC2 Open tournament (1st place) ensures that you qualify for the TSL3. Placing second to sixteenth earns you qualifier points. There are eight TL SC2 opens. Each of the eight winners will earn a TSL3 spot. Eight more players who have the most qualifier points will also qualify.
How many of the eight TL SC2 Opens can I play? If you meet the registration requirements, you can play all eight tournaments. You will need access to an EU and NA account to play all eight. It is fine if you borrow a friend's account, but there will be no account sharing during tournaments, as this causes unacceptable delays.
Example: Player A borrows Player B's EU account to play in TSL3 Qualifier #1. Player B cannot play in TSL3 Qualifier #1 unless he has access to a different account. This is to ensure that the tournament does not have delays. Two players cannot play on the same account for the tournament.
If I earn points with different Battle.net accounts, are they added together? Yes. Qualifier points are credited to the TL user, not the Battle.net account. As long as you fill in your Battle.net account information correctly, you will be awarded the points.
Can I play in more TSL3 Qualifiers after I win one? No. Once you win a TSL3 Qualifier you cannot play in any more. If we discover that a player was secretly playing in TSL3 Qualifier tournaments after winning one, that player will forfeit his TSL3 spot and be disqualified.
Can I smurf or help my friend qualify by playing on his account? No. Playing for another player is cheating. Two players cannot combine their results -- all qualifier points must be solely earned by one player. If we discover that a player was posing as someone else, both players will be disqualified.

damn i arrived late home because some guys stole a friends camera and i was at the police... first the camera, now i miss the check in... grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr im angry
Well I got knocked out by one of the top 200 in Europe.. who cannon blocked me and built more cannon's than I think even the British empire ever had around me.
It was 1:30PM and I just woke up, I remembered "Oh, shit I have to check in in 10 minutes." so I my bronze ass out of bed and went to check in, I waited patiently for the bracket to be generated so I could see who I would play.
After many a F5 the brackets where done and I clicked on it, I pressed control + F and typed NexUmbra
...
We got into a game and it took a turn for the worst...
I like bratok's manner..... Lifting buildings and running away wheni t was obviously over... Not impressed, especially since he has so many fans, and such a good player reputation.

He had 2 OCs and some MMMs, if he could do some damage to Zeerax's main he could still have a chance because Zeerax didn't have a second nexus and his main was probably about to run out. Anyhow what's the problem in staying couple of minutes longer to think about the game if you still have some units, it's not like he tried to hide flying CCs out of spite.

Yeah many going out and dont understand why they went with bo1 even thougnt none likes it...most of top players hate bo1.
Bo1 in TSL qualifers where they will end up playing for 15,000$ is just sad imo.
Many other ways it could be done with bo3, tournament could last 2 days, higher restrictions for players who can enter so less players (could add ladder points for random players so they still had a chance to get by doing good on ladder) or there could be less qualifiers with top 2 makeing it to TSL.
there are a lot more good/deserving players than there are spots, that's how it is. this is also why tsl (well, along with the prize pool and awesome production ) is going to be so prestigeous - even qualifying is a massive feat in itself.. bo1 for first 5 rounds is perfectly fine, there are 8 of these tournaments. yes, some very good players will be left out. but nobody that makes it is going to be undeserving.
Notable people who've dropped out so far include (first mentioned dropped by the hands of second):
round3 ZpuX vs Thorzain KawaiiRice vs Ciara
round4 iNcontroL vs FXOFilthy Socke vs Drafter BRAT_OK vs ZeeRaX RineTS vs Thorzain NightEnD vs AAforhigher
round5 MaNa vs forelmashi MorroW vs ISEESEE Nerchio vs 7x.Control LaLuSh vs ToDoNtE Spades vs Slider
round6 Pokebunny vs ToDoNtE ZeeRaX vs Stephano (guy who placed well in some tournaments recently) ThisIsJimmy vs Strelok - playing Whiplash vs Empire.kas - playing Slider vs Naniwa - playing

BO1 is indeed quite brutal, to be honest. Sure it's supposed to be a challenge to reach the final stages of the qualifiers and actually qualify, but it should be a challenge because of the skill level of competitors, not because one bad decision or even missclick can ruin your qualification no matter how good you are.
Obviously the person who does qualify directly by winning a TL Open will inevitably be a top player because of BO3/BO5's in the later stages, but TL Opens themselves are pretty stacked with quality players and it would be so much better for the fans / viewers to have all of those quality players reach the final stages of the qualifier tournaments as well.

Thorzain, Ciara, somebody on the team of FXO, ZeeRaX, ToD and Slider aren't some scrubs, just so you know. Most of them were notable wc3 players. Slider was notable at bw. I dunno much about FXOFilthy or Drafter, or any of the others (seen ZeeRaX couple o times during beta), but forelmashi just posted here. And if they lose so easily it might also tell you that their gameplay isn't solid enough to warrant a free pass to TSL3 yet. There's still plenty of time. I'm sure many of them will qualify later.
@Beyonder: Who's Sase in the brackets? o_o
It's just so exciting to see that there are so many dangerous people waiting to come out of the woodwork. I quite like the picture of all the known names dropping like flies. Or maybe I'm just in movie mood. :D

Don't really understand how cloud would fail for that though... He had a raven... That being said, I wonder, wouldn't it have been better if he had made like half colossi, half void rays, since I mean it was pretty obvious either way, he wouldn't have been able to have that many VRs without any early stargate(so if cloud had spotted it, he'd have known to just focus fire the colossi).
Edit: Btw if Wolf reads this thumbs up on commentary
Naniwa in the quarters, guess he's proving his ladder prowess isn't dodgy like some people claimed. Although I'm thinking Strelok takes this tourney, he's been playing well recently in online tourneys if I remember correctly.

HQ Restream for those who can't view it from the default stream. (Sorry tl.net mods if this isn't allowed, but it's not fair for those who aren't able to view it live.) http://justin.tv/Odien
The stream is pretty high quality, 2mbps 720p HD. If your Internet or CPU isn't up to speed it may be choppy for you, especially if you're on an old OS like Windows XP without tweaking.

Is there any way to lower the quality our side or is it only the one super high quality stream?

Running it on a Core 2 duo 2.4 (clocked to 3) with 100/10 mbit internet and it's still choppy. Just distance/routing related? Game 2 just warped all over for me, seeing a marauder getting killed then seeing 4 marauders and a marine eating a stalker the next second.

For me I think it's just my connection can't handle. Sucks was so keen to watch. Kinda makes me wish Wolf still got to cast now. At least there's still Haypro fighting in PokerIdol!
What the hell. Before the start of game 1 I go down to the supermarket around the corner to buy some stuff, I come back like 10minutes later and I see Kas invading the base for the 2-0. That's just crazy

Ciara is EG.Ciara from wc3
This article from Dec25 says that he's playing for ieS's sc2 team, despite still being listed for EG's wc3 ESL team.
Has also never felt so good to see a player not advance. Even though Nani can show off on some occasions, it is not in a positive way most of the time. Until that changes I can't feel happy about his wins.

Still the response to Nani's 2 gate pressure expo into 4 gate from Kas was extremely good - just mass-marines with stim and medivacs without marauders.
Honestly, I do not know if you can beat this without colossi, you probably need to use defensive forcefields and let the first stim wear off.

I think that at least for the TSL you should make a side-stream with lower quality, I mean, you only need to restream the oficial one. (but it would be much better if TeamLiquid did it oficially)
I don't have any problems even on my laptop (which doenst have the best specs), but I guess some people might have.

I REALLY like the quality of the stream. Looking very good TL.
Nice play from Ciara. To bad Adelscott lost from Kas in the ro8. I would have loved seeing him play here against Naniwa and possibly Ciara in the final. I really love his play. Perhaps not the best but most of the time entertaining and regularly trying new things.

TL sc2Open is weekly so not much that you can do about having some double tournaments on a day like Saturday. It's a popular day so other tournaments prefer also having it then as having to plan something on lets say a Wednesday as this results in much lower viewers and probably more difficulties for players to attend.

Well, to be fair, if Z attacked with lings/blings AND drones, maybe people would not like it that much. He did pretty good damage with his first attack, so he probably figured he could keep pushing without risking falling behind economically. I don't know...

Well, in the World Cup they do sometimes say "The Korean striker had a good attempt there" to mix it up sometimes, or because he had a lapse on the name? haha

Yeah I got really confused when they pronounced his name. Better research next time!
This game 3 is way too swingy. Zerg had it won, threw the game away, only T gets caught with nothing sieged up and loses his rines along with leaving the spire up.
I hate the fact that two major tournaments are going on at the same time (Reddit & TSL). It is so difficult to choose what to watch. My favourote caster Incontrol or epic matches at tsl finals...
the way chill and dj wheat pronounce Ciara is driving me crazy... it may well be the way his ID is pronounced, but Ciara is a very common girls name here and it's pronounced "kira" not "seera", why did he have to pick that name
it's also disturbing when you know girls named Ciara and keep imagining them playing some sick zerg...

Well Kas is, in my (humble and often wildly inaccurate) opinion, one of the very best terrans outside of Korea. Very consistant in how well he plays and he'd certainly be a great player to have @ tsl3
Even if Ciara loses he still got a very good chance of makeing TSL, with 1024 players in each qualifiers not many will get more then 100 points since i dont think we will se many of the same ppl in top 16 each time, so he just need like a top 8 or 16 in another is my bet.

His play is far from spectacular. He botched micro a lot in the previous series and his responses are weird from time to time.
ofcourse you deserve to be in the finals if you win all your game. But I just think that some other players on a 'better' day would be able to play better than they did today and possibly beat Ciara. Especially when looking forward to qualifying for TSL I would personally want to see other players!
Kas didn't do enough damage with the initial push, and despite evening up the forces again with his second push Ciara on 2 bases outproduced Kas who's comitted to the one base play.

I don't think that holds for bo1 single elim brackets. I haven't seen a semi final with such low level play since early beta.
A more accurate question Kas could have asked is how could Ciara have possibly defeated players like Tarson, Whitera and Kawaiirice and gotten to the finals.

His wins over Moonglade, Tarson, and WhiteRa all were in Bo3's, it's hard to argue that he doesn't deserve to beat here when he's taken out top players in multi game series.

You deserve to be in the finals if u win all your matches untill the finals, attitude of the player has nothing to do with it
I don't think that holds for bo1 single elim brackets. I haven't seen a semi final with such low level play since early beta.
? Ciara beat Tarson, Moonglade, WhiteRa and Thorzain in Bo3s. It's not like he's a bad player :S
Is the stream stuttering for anyone else as well?? tried refreshing, but all that does is show me that god awful commercial every time...perfectly smooth until the real stream starts..
I don't know why ciara went mutas instead of roaches / drops... Roaches combined with that creep tumor would've been such a genial way of handling that drop.
Instead of waiting until he's got a few mutas gathered, he sends them in small numbers and fails to focus the medvac at first, so the thor drop does way more damage than necessary.
lol, i'm a zerg player and even i was rooting for kas, just because i get tired of hearing people talk about how everyone they roll is trash, and as soon as they don't win, it's because the game is CLEARLY broken...

I'd really like to see those games. Yes, he is a very bad player compared to the top European players (even!). I think he has good early game decision making, but that's it.
good luck in TSL 3 Kas, I think you played well in those matches, wish I could have seen a little more macro games there, but with close position in the 3 games on 4 player maps, can't blame you.
This Ciara... he is a fucking bastard. Sorry, but there is no way to describe him. Anyone would 'gg' when you lose to overnerfed Reapers on Kerrigan's Plateau, because it does require some skill - or lack of skill from yourself.
After Ciara talking about terran imbalance, Kas goes on to do an MM + scv allin and a thor drop. And some of you are still complaining about him not GGing?
Talented? LOL. Ciara was actually know from stupid towers builds as orc (he couldnt manage blademaster) and rage quiting similar as he did today. I wouldn't call that a talent. He didn't win anything too. Kas on the other hand was well know and very solid human player.
Glad Ciarra lost. He's frustrated with terran, I totally get that. However, there is really no reason to trash other players like he did in their game on Metal. Class and sportsmanship elude Ciarra.
Congratz to Kas! Are the replays of this TL Open being released like the previous TL Opens? Or is this gonna run like all those pro tournaments where replays are treated like a super-big secret that the public is not worthy of having on their hard-drives?

The MM+scv was held, and the thor drop was kinda deserved. The guy just didn't fight the thor correctly. It was horrible.
Ciara was very bad in wc3 and he is not good in sc2 either. Kas on the other hand is pretty solid in both, more of a cookie cutter style though, so he is easy to beat for smart players.

ok terrans wont bm u by making mm and thor dropping but dont bm terrans by making mutas, spine crawlers or to hold off bunker rushes with drones.
Please, its ridiculous how you expect him to limit his play because "you" dont agree with it. Its not for you to chose what he does with his units.

Pro gamers have trouble with that in tournies like GSL. Never mind an open tourney after playing a dozen games already.

Kas > Ciara WC3 Kas > Ciara SC2
I just wanted to give a face behind the player. I didnt comment his play. Couldnt find a picture of Kas though, so I complemented by some of my experience from his play. If you want my opinion on Ciara then I agree with you, he never really was a good Wc3 player even though he basically played it since forever, but Kas has extreme talent and while he's being the younger player he still got far beyond most players in Europe.
Big thx to all for this good words i am very happy what won so solid tour qualy, and today will be celebrate thx all and HF GL! p.s. sry for bad english.

Great to see the better and more deserving player coming out on top! Really loved your reaper micro on shakuras, very well played

Its not about him not handeling it right. Its about putting a thor on that cliff with your free dropship takes a lot less skill than having to fight it off (which even when you get the right units is damn difficult) Same goes for the MM+ scv allin

Gratz!.. ur play has been truly insane as of late. GL in TSL3! I'm hoping you'll do great
To all people talked bad about Ciaras play. Really...? Apparently KawaiiRice, EmpireFrum, m00nglade, Tarson, WhiteRa and ThorZain got outplayed. He played really well and that trick with the creep tumor, well i havent seen it before + he got the mutas becuase roaches couldnt have attacked a sieged tank.

This. Ciara played an extremely impressive tournament. Also note that he was the only zerg that even reached ro8.

Its not about him getting mutas instead of roaches, its because he sent his mutas in groups of 2 or 3 to get slaughtered instead of waiting untill he had a considerable amount of them.
Oh man, i couldnt watch this Tournament because of the Poker and Reddit Tournament ... too many good Streams ^^ But what do i see here too check who won ? Its all about BM BM BM BM ... guys come on. I didnt saw Ciaras Games but it seems to be people are like always trashtalking because off some shitty things. And of course people are saying he wouldnt deserve to win after beating KawaiiRice, EmpireFrum, m00nglade, Tarson, WhiteRa and ThorZain ... soo all these players are bad ? Its always the same with you guys.
Could someone please explain what about this creep tumor trick he did ?

He was already tilting since 2 games before that. makes no sense to judge him based on that. Unfortunately absolute judgements based on extremely limited information/samples is all too common here.
Ciara played really well throughout the tournament, so there's no reason for all this "undeserved" talk. That he isn't going to be too popular after the finals has nothing to do with his skill.

His hatchery had 10% hp when he went in with the mutas + sacrificing spinecrawler, becuase its gg when expo goes down.

Playing to your opponents strengths isn't exactly a good idea if you're playing to win the tournament. It's not like these strategies are unbeatable or uncommon. In fact he even beat the MM+scv all in so clearly he's capable. Mind games like this are exactly how you win a tournament, especially if you know it will further tilt your opponent. Congrats
Congrats to EmpireKas for a great tourney. Such a consistently strong player. It's almost a pity we won't get to see him in future TL Opens. :D
I'm not one to excuse bm between players in professional situations, so ciara not saying gg (for whatever reason) was a pity. Not saying glhf/gg is just bad form. It's the virtual version of a handshake or bow, which is done in pretty much every sport (Football, Tennis, all Martial Arts related competition etc. etc). It's just inexcusable not to and ultimately, reflects badly on the player and no one else.
That said, thanks for a finely organised tournament, being led through the day by Wolf and then djWheat/Chill was a pleasure. GJ all involved.
Ciara plants a creep tumor on the cliff above his natural, with his queen actually staying on low ground. In case of a Thor/tank drop, the tumor will provide vision for queens/roaches without using overlords.
Edit : howto is in the video in the post just below. Pretty neat. Thanks for the link SmoKim!
am kinda upset... Not for any major reason. But I dont see how filthy beating incontrol is an upset. The name may not be famous (yet) but he definitely has had the skill to do so for a long while.

Just quoting this because most people seem to forget that important part. A few games don't dictate the skill of a player.

I dunno why you would be upset by that. Most people would think of it as an upset because more people know incontrol and his skill and just figure he would beat someone who hasn't made a name for themselves yet.
I would bet that of the qualifier for the TSL ~50% (8) will be terrans and ~10 or more will be Europeans. In the next tournament somebody from the US Server will win, though, because the best European players will be playing in the Homestory Cup.
It's sad that players like Sjow and TLO missed/will miss the first two qualifier (and maybe more).

I dno man, it just makes me squirm a bit.. Ya know... The fact that two evenly matched players go up against each other and one loses shouldnt be considered an upset.
If I beat incontrol well then, yes, thats a major upset.. Cos I suck arse.

No offense but you vastly overrate the skill of your players @_@!
It's sad to see Ciara being BM the entire time. I'm kind of wondering why he did the same build every game and not once did he try and poke inside the base with an overlord.
